The choice of a sandblasting nozzle for a compressor, a pressure washer, a grinder and other devices is unlikely to cause difficulties for professionals. But for novice masters, this question is quite important. It is equally important to know how to use this device.

Peculiarities

The good thing about the sandblasting nozzle for the compressor is that this device allows you to turn a compressed air source into a multifunctional device. The main part of compressor equipment, including those installed in car washes, is excellent for solving this problem. The description of the washer with a special additive from Karcher mentions:

  • miniature compressor AED (AWD);

  • special serial model gun for directing the flow;

  • the actual nozzle, which allows you to use a water-sand mixture;

  • a hose, without which the sandblasting cannot work normally (this hose is produced in such a way that the flow of sand would harm the walls less);

  • tank for abrasive;

  • receiving nozzle, which is responsible for the selection of sand.

Inside the gun there is a special channel through which the air drives the abrasive mass. It is thrown out from the nozzle. A handle equipped with a switch is usually made of plastic or metal. In some cases, it is covered with rubber so that the instrument is held firmly in the hands. Of course, all decently decent machines allow you to adjust the supply of both the abrasive itself and the air.

For all the importance of each of these components, it is worth pointing out the paramount importance of the nozzle, which is often underestimated. Some manufacturers make it out of plastic or thin metal. Such materials can look attractive. However, their service life, especially with active operation, is very short.

The optimal solution is tungsten and ceramic structures.

Principle of operation

Everything happens quite simply:

  • the first step is starting the compressor;

  • waiting for the necessary increase in pressure;

  • valve opening;

  • the beginning of the movement of suspended particles by a compressed jet;

  • opening of the valve on the supply hose;

  • the release of the substance to the outside.

In terms of the physics of the process, using a pistol does not change anything. But the nozzle ensures a precise supply of the processing agent. Thanks to it, you can both carry out point processing and perform large-scale manipulations. With the help of such a unit, metal surfaces are polished with confidence. Depending on the task at hand, it is matted or brought to an ideally rough state; even domestic compressors can generate the required pressure and head.

Model overview

Many people choose the pressure washer nozzle "Calm"... Judging by the reviews, it suits well for home use. This device, however, has its drawbacks. It is noted that a strong approach to the object of processing leads to wetting of the sand and the loss of the desired dynamics. You have to shake out the wet abrasive, and this requires partial disassembly.

The manufacturer himself recommends purchasing a nozzle made of ceramic material in the kit. The compressor can do without a large receiver. Recommended use:

  • quartz sand from 0.2 to 0.8 mm;

  • copper slag;

  • nickel slag.

The sandblaster can also be installed on the grinder. In this case, all parts in contact with the abrasive flow are obtained from a special heat-treated steel.

The size of the sandblaster does not differ from the usual angle grinder. But the time for preparation and folding after work is much less. In order for the grinder to be protected from the harmful effects of abrasives, it is recommended:

  • cover the suction ventilation ducts with filtration material;

  • work outdoors on the leeward side;

  • in the room, take care of the blowing of the workplace;

  • choose angle grinders designed for concrete or stone, since their windings are initially protected from mechanically active dust.

Technically, these types of sandblasting nozzles are distinguished:

  • pressure head (with nozzles);

  • ejector (where the flow is created due to the difference in air pressure, and this is a more popular solution);

  • equipped with a tank (they look like a spray gun, they are ineffective);

  • with hose (suitable for large areas).

How to use?

Sandblasting with homemade nozzles can:

  • remove all kinds of pollution;

  • remove the remnants of glue and paint;

  • knock out corroded areas;

  • clean the surfaces before further processing;

  • perform simple decorative patterns.

It should be understood that an abrasive device is not a toy, but a serious technique. It is absolutely unacceptable to point the operating device at yourself or other people.

Of course you can take on work only in special clothing that leaves a minimum of unprotected areas. You can also not refuse to wear closed shoes and the use of good respirators. Naturally, whenever possible, manipulation should be carried out in the open air.
