For several years now, leading physicians from different countries have been discussing the benefits and harms of the ozonizer. The word "ozonizer" in most cases is associated with freshness after rain. However, not everyone knows that even with the strongest freshness, the gas content in the air is minimal. A high concentration of ozone in the atmosphere would cause significant injuries to human health. Based on the foregoing, it can be understood that the ozonizer can only be beneficial if the device is used correctly.

What it is?

In the middle of the 18th century, scientists began to actively study the properties of ozone, and 100 years later they were able to artificially obtain this gas for the first time. At the beginning of the 20th century, French scientists began to conduct the first experiments on air purification with ozone.

An ozonator is a special device that produces ozone. Gas is used to get rid of unpleasant odors and purify indoor air. An ozone molecule is one molecule and one oxygen atom.

Moreover, the chemical composition of a substance can constantly change due to the fact that the atom has the ability to detach from the oxygen molecule and attach to other molecules.

Due to the change in the chemical composition of the gas, the air is purified with ozone - it removes pollution, bacteria and other microbes. If we compare chlorine and ozone, the latter is more effective, therefore it is increasingly used for air sterilization. Among other things, users note that the ozonizer allows you to clean the room from mold and mildew. It is known from the school course in geography that ozone is a layer of the atmosphere that protects humanity from the negative effects of the ultraviolet rays of the Sun. There is also ground-level ozone, which is an atmospheric pollutant. It is formed by the interaction of sunlight with harmful substances that are formed as a result of the work of factories and under certain weather conditions, the same smog is released by transport.

Ozone is one of the strongest oxidizing agents, therefore, it easily destroys rubber, many types of metals, polymers, can adversely affect the operation of electronics. If we neglect the maximum permissible concentration of ozone in the air, then it can harm health - a person will get poisoned. One-time ozone concentration is 0.16 mg per cubic meter. It is quite simple to identify an overdose: it becomes difficult for a person to breathe, there is a strong lack of oxygen, a burning sensation in the chest, a dry cough, and tearing.

Principle of operation

In general terms, the scheme of operation of the ozonizer has many similarities with the phenomenon of a thunderstorm. The product absorbs oxygen molecules and gives them a powerful electrical discharge. Thanks to it, the structure of oxygen changes and ozone is formed. Further, the product discharges the gas to the outside. Ozone begins to react with any microorganisms in the air, attaching itself to their molecules and subsequently destroying them.

Consider the main components of the ozonizer:

  • source of electrical discharges;
  • voltage generator;
  • blowing / blowing fan - sets the direction of the gas;
  • on-off sensor.

If the owners need not only to purify the air from pollution, but also to increase the level of humidity, then it is recommended to buy an ozonizer equipped with a humidifier.

In such products there is a special container into which water is poured. The steam they have generated is already clean. On the market, you can find more expensive models equipped with an ionizer.

Stages of the device.

  • To begin with, the owners set a shutdown timer and press the Start button. If you are using a household model, then experts do not recommend setting the timer for more than 25-30 minutes.
  • Further, the voltage from the mains enters the discharge generator, the fan is activated and begins to suck in air from the room.
  • The ozone generated by the chemical reaction is blown back into the room using a fan.
  • After a specified period of time, the device turns off.

Benefit and harm

Before you start talking about the advantages and disadvantages of the ozonizer, you need to study in detail the properties of ozone. It is called modified oxygen, composed of triatomic molecules. The gas has a pungent odor and, at high concentration, begins to give off a blue tint. Having installed an ozonizer in the house, the owners will be sure for sure that the air will be cleared of all viruses and bacteria. Over the past few years, an unconventional method of disease prevention, called ozone therapy, has begun to gain more and more popularity. This gas is a good disinfectant, helps to improve metabolism in the human body, and can act as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent.

Official medicine cannot yet confirm the effectiveness of ozone treatment. The use of an ozonizer is permitted, but the patient must be consulted about the possible consequences. To date, ozone therapy is not fully understood. If the body is immune, even a minimal concentration of gas can harm it. There were cases when ozone created burns of the respiratory system.

Advantages

Ozone can be used not only to purify the air, but also to decontaminate it. The device will be especially useful if there are elderly people and children in the house. In addition, the owners will be able to get rid of unpleasant odors. This unit will be an excellent replacement for ultraviolet quartzization. If you do not live in an apartment building, but in a suburban building, then it is most likely constantly ventilated and buying a purifier will be pointless. However, the owners of city apartments cannot afford to ventilate the rooms every day due to the gas pollution of the streets. In this case, the ozonizer comes to the rescue.

The product will come in handy if the smell of dampness constantly appears in the apartment, moreover, it can neutralize not only the smell of cigarettes, but also cleanse the air of harmful chemical elements. The ozonizer will even help get rid of the paint smell. Air purification should be strictly adhering to a certain time.

For a good cleaning, the device will need no more than 15 minutes of work, only in this case it will be useful.

disadvantages

Even during short-term air purification, oxides are formed, which are harmful to health. Advertising campaigns state that the air ozonator can even destroy chemicals inside fruits and vegetables. However, this is only a marketing ploy - due to its structure, this gas will not be able to penetrate into the products in any way. And this is both a plus and a minus at the same time.

Species overview

On the modern market, you can find a variety of modifications of ozonizers, the power depends on the scope of application. Below are the main varieties of this device.

Industrial

As the name implies, industrial purifiers are designed to ozonize large areas. They are actively used for the disinfection of sewage and are used in the production of engine oils. The device has been used for cleaning car interiors for the past few years.

Medical

In addition to industry, products are actively used in many medical institutions, but not for treating patients, but for sterilizing premises. The product is actively used to maintain immunity while losing weight. Every doctor can say with confidence that such actions will certainly harm human health, but there is no scientific evidence of the real benefits of such treatment yet.

Despite this, many patients, after frequent exposure to the ozonized room, notice a sharp improvement in their health.

Automotive

Such devices differ from others in that they have a built-in humidifier. Obsolete models are connected to the vehicle's electrical network, while modern products are powered by a cigarette lighter. Such an air cleaner will be especially useful if you are the owner of a Soviet car, because in such cars exhaust gases from the street get into the salon.

Household

Such ozonizers can be included in other products or as independent devices. Household options, in turn, are also divided into two subspecies.

  • Room. These are the most popular home air purifiers.
  • For the refrigerator. Such units are designed to remove foreign odors and disinfect the air.

If we compare industrial and household cleaners, then the latter are far behind in power, but they spend less electricity.

Instructions for use

It is strictly forbidden to neglect the rules for using the device, otherwise negligence can result in death. If you have purchased an ozonizer for air purification, then it is advisable to install it on the wall and not rearrange it. If there are kids in the house, then you need to use the unit even more carefully - children should not reach the device.

During the operation of the product, all household members must leave the room so as not to inhale the gas themselves. The duration of operation depends on the goals set:

  • if you just need to clear the air, then 10 minutes will be enough;
  • if there are unpleasant odors or mites in the apartment, turn on the device for 15 minutes;
  • in 30 minutes of operation, the ozonizer will completely disinfect the room.

Before turning on the unit, carefully study the instructions that come with the kit. Some models are equipped with special nozzles for liquid ozonation. Experts recommend buying a 3-in-1 design right away. This way you can clean water, air, and household items, and buying one product will cost much less than three separately.

Please note that ozone treated water must not be drunk for an hour. It must settle so that the sediment settles to the bottom, and only then the water will become usable.
