Classic style is one of the most popular styles of interior decoration. Many respectable people see it as an expression of status. Very beautiful furniture is created in the classical style: sideboards made of natural wood, leather sofas, beds with a carved headboard. Classic lamps are a luxury of crystal and gilding harmony. If you are planning a renovation with expensive furnishings, or if you are doing a budget renovation in a neoclassical format with inexpensive Indonesian beds, then you simply need to choose a decent background picture for the walls to create style unity.

Features of the direction

Classicism is a European Renaissance style that uses the aesthetic canons of ancient Rome. Therefore, any Greek motives are suitable for interior decoration. Classicism is characterized by such features as the grace of the pattern and symmetry.

A classic room is characterized by an abundance of light colors, for example, ceilings, columns, baseboards, furniture.

Classic style wallcoverings have the following features:

  • repeating symmetrical pattern;
  • light backgrounds: shades of white, peach, pink, beige;
  • graceful patterns;
  • solid color or two-color ornament.

Occasionally, bright and saturated background colors for walls are acceptable, if the design palette allows it. However, they must be dark and noble. More often it is black, brown, gray, blue, purple, burgundy.

A characteristic feature of the style is a symmetrical pattern.

Materials (edit)

Paper coverings can be chosen if the requirements for the level of finishing the premises are not high, for example, if you are finishing a country house. The paper cover will look a little old-fashioned anyway, but with vintage-style elements this is not a big deal.

Wallpaper on a non-woven basis looks more expensive, but their matte sheen will look better in the corridor.

For an apartment, the optimal ratio of aesthetics and strength looks like a vinyl covering with silk-screen printing. It is the most common choice for wall backdrops for luxury refurbishment spaces. Silk-screen printing is a hot stamping technique that applies artificial silk threads to polyvinyl chloride. This method creates a luxurious finish that mimics the fabric.

An elite wall material that mimics the aesthetics of royal palaces is fabric-backed wallpaper. Textile materials for wall decoration are an expensive pleasure, they are made on the basis of linen, viscose, their cost is calculated not per roll, but per running meter. The price of a meter of textile wallpaper is approximately equal to the price of a roll of vinyl.

Vinyl wallpapers in a classic range of colors have the widest selection of patterns and colors.

Ornaments and colors

Classics require the finest harmony of shades, so even wall materials should be matched to other interior details. The dull tones of the room design cannot be selected at random.

Classic materials of white tones can be of several basic shades: milky white, champagne, ivory, snow white. When designing a room with white walls, beware of unnecessary boredom. Keep in mind that if the furniture in the room is light, then white wallpaper will not work, all items will simply be lost.

Black leather furniture on a light background is already an Art Nouveau style. Keep in mind that in a classic interior, all shades flow smoothly into each other.

Furniture of any shades of wood is suitable for white wallpaper, beige and gray for silver.

Matching tones to the shade of the floor:

  • Milk tones with floral patterns go with the bright brown tones of the floor, because this is one of the shades of the coffee range.
  • Ivory with silver ornaments is a good choice for gray laminate.
  • Snow white is a great addition to a beige floor.
  • A shade of champagne with a golden pattern can be matched to linoleum in orange-yellow tones.

Warm gamut

Warm tones are patterns in peach, beige with brown and gold patterns. These are trendy backgrounds, thanks to which the room will always be in a warm color, as in the light of the setting sun. Beige patterns with brown patterns are found in the collection of the German manufacturer Erismann. Beige designs on a peach background can be found in the Rasch-T "Diamonds and Pearls" collection.

Golden patterns are one of the classic wall decoration options, which has been known since the days of royal palaces, when the walls were trimmed with fabrics with gilded threads. Monograms are typical for such drawings.

The advantages of wall paintings in warm colors are that almost any furniture is suitable for them: white, brown, black and even gray.

Neoclassical colors

Neoclassicism is one of the subspecies of the classical style, which is closer to the modern one. Neoclassicism is characterized by two formats of room design:

  • Light wallpaper in cold colors - white, light blue, light pink with a dull floral pattern.
  • Deep, muted tones, complex ornaments (monograms, stripes), flowers. A series of original patterns is presented in the collection of the manufacturer Rialto Fresco

American current

American classic wall coverings are traditionally designed to create spaciousness in the room. The most fashionable wall designs are in light colors - smoky gray, beige. The interior in this style is utilitarian and there are no unnecessary details, so the material for the walls will be monochromatic.

Dark tones

Some design solutions are based on a well-thought-out palette, which may include dark tones for wall decoration.

If the wallpaper is dark, then their color is modest, the most common:

  • black;
  • Navy blue;
  • burgundy;
  • purple.

The advantage of dark saturated tones is that they can make a frilly pattern appear more prominent.

Patterns and prints

If the furniture in the room is antique or antique, then the old ornament will emphasize the style. Damascus is a pattern that is the hallmark of the classic style, its variations are used in modern wallpaper designs.

Ancient Greek ornaments that influenced the formation of the classical style are meander, spiral, palmette and bud. Ornaments with Ionic motives with an abundance of floral details belong to the ancient Roman ones.

While Greco-Roman designs are the traditional classical style, the neoclassical is characterized by floral silk-screen embossing and stripes.

Combination options

In classic interiors, you can often see such a technique as the use of convex borders with imitation of stucco molding. The room can be papered around the perimeter, or it can be finished with a combination of whitewashed walls and wallpaper, but in this case the walls should be perfectly flat.

If the walls need masking, then you can choose monochromatic coatings in combination with a rich pattern, which is framed at the edges with white borders.

In classic interiors, it is not accepted to use photowall-paper or pasting two walls in one color, and the other two in another. All walls must be pasted over identically to each other.

Which ones to choose?

Since classic wall backgrounds are usually created with a pattern, you should know how the pattern affects the room:

  • a large drawing compresses the room;
  • small - expands.

Living room

For a living room of an average size (from 18 square meters), you can choose a medium-sized drawing and any colors that the palette suggests.

Bedroom

In the bedroom, it is better to combine wallpaper with borders and choose light shades to make a small room seem more spacious.

The corridor

White light will not look good in the hallway, as it can easily get dirty. It also requires powerful LED lighting, which is not suitable for classics. Therefore, it is better to choose a dark wallpaper with a light pattern and a large pattern if the corridor is spacious enough, or small if it is narrow.

By choosing a gold or silver pattern, you can complement the hallway with 1-2 wall chandeliers and get a beautiful shimmer on the pattern.

Examples in the interior

Interior with hot-embossed silk-screen wallpaper. Chest of drawers, upholstered chairs, curtains and wall tint form a single palette. This is one of the options for the coffee range, which is often used to create coziness in the living room.

One of the variations of the damascus pattern. The wall looks interesting and is a great backdrop for a designer cabinet, lamps and even a picture that does not overload the eye thanks to the huge frame.

A great example for interiors in traditional classics with vintage elements. For antique furniture, dark and gilded wall colors are a great backdrop. A large drawing is appropriate for a large room and creates the geometry of the space.

The luxurious interior looks expensive, although the secret of beauty here is not only the elegant headboard of the bed, but above all, the combination of shades of walls, curtains, bedspreads. The wall covering here is not inferior in quality to the textile one, although these are vinyl wallpapers from budget collections with a simple pattern.

A bedroom in the style of modern classics is a freer decor in terms of pattern. Flowers are allowed here instead of Greco-Roman ornaments. The interior design palette in the Impressionist style hints at the beginning of the 20th century, and the combination of a modern wardrobe and a vintage table is quite appropriate in this style, where there is a combination of modern and antique motifs.
