Flies are an urgent problem for residents not only of villages, but also of large cities. As soon as warmth comes, annoying insects begin to penetrate a person's home, continuing to do this until the very end of autumn. And mosquito nets are not always able to protect against parasites. Fortunately, the modern insecticide market is full of different types of midge control. Among them, fumigators are especially popular.

Features and principle of operation

The fumigator is a device that is effective against flies and other insects. Its device is simple: it is a small box with a heating element and an insecticide in a plate, tablet or liquid. When connected to the network, the active substance begins to evaporate and kills or repels insects.

Using a fly fumigator is easy, even a child can handle it. But in order for the protection to be maximum and safe, you need to correctly determine the choice of the active substance. Depending on the composition, the following types of fumigants can be distinguished.

  • Pyrethroid. They do not kill, but they repel insects. Contains chemicals that negatively affect flies and mosquitoes. Do not affect humans and animals.
  • Pyrethrinitis. Scare away insects. They contain natural, natural substances that are obtained from plant materials (tansy, lavender, vanilla, chamomile). Midges do not tolerate the smell of these plants and try to leave the room. Completely safe for animals and humans (allergic reactions to natural ingredients are possible).
  • Insecticidal. They destroy insects. When used correctly, they are absolutely safe for humans and pets.

Depending on the goals, the active ingredient for the fumigator is selected.

Today, two types of devices are most common: electrofumigators and pyrotechnic models.

Electrical

The electric fumigator is very often used in offices, apartments and private houses. One device affects an area of 20 m2. Let's highlight some of the advantages of such devices.

  • Long period of action. One bottle of liquid or a plate is enough for an average of 20-30 days. There are manufacturers that produce fumigants with a duration of up to 45 days.
  • Quick exit to the operating mode. It takes only a few minutes to heat up the ceramic element and evaporate the active ingredient.
  • Safe and comfortable use. During the operation of the device, there is no strong smoke. It is permissible to leave the fumigator unattended overnight, but it is necessary to check the serviceability of the contacts before each switching on.
  • Availability. You can buy electric fumigators in any stores, from small grocery stores to large hypermarkets.

However, such devices also have disadvantages.

  • Quite a high price. Depending on the area of the premises, as well as the regularity of use, the costs may not be entirely budgetary. In addition, do not forget that the device, connected to the network all night, consumes electrical energy.
  • The inability to use on open terraces of private houses and in nature. Firstly, there are not always sockets. Secondly, the active ingredients do not work well in the open air.

Pyrotechnic

They are produced in the form of plates and spirals. The advantages are as follows.

  • Possibility of effective use in nature and other open spaces.The radius of action of the spiral and the plates is enough to protect the resting place of a large group of people from the invasion of flies and mosquitoes.
  • Protection for several hours, as the material does not burn, but gradually smolders.
  • High efficiency. Insects are very sensitive to the substances used in pyrotechnic fumigators. They lose orientation in space and die.
  • There is no need to use additional methods of struggle. Skin repellents and formulations applied to clothing are simply not needed when using a spiral fumigator.
  • Budget cost.

Such funds are inexpensive and do not require additional costs.

As for the cons, attention should be paid to the following points.

  • High toxicity. If you violate the rules of operation, you can easily get poisoned. Children and pregnant women are particularly at risk.
  • Cannot be used in rooms with aquariums, as well as on the shore of open reservoirs where fish live. Alletrin and its analogs are extremely toxic not only to insects, but also to fish.
  • Fire hazard. If safety rules are violated, a fire may occur.

Choosing a device suitable for getting rid of insects should be responsible, taking into account the place where it is planned to be used.

Popular remedies

On sale you can find a large number of fumigators, differing not only in price and active ingredient, but also in manufacturer. Here are some popular brands.

"Raptor"

Fumigator plates and fluids from this manufacturer contain vaportrin. It is developed in Japan and is effective against flying insects in homes, offices and warehouses. The devices are budgetary and odorless. One plate lasts 8 hours, liquid - up to a month.

Raid

Plates of this brand are produced in Russia and contain pyrethrum (chamomile). The fumigant can be used both indoors and outdoors. The exposure area of one device is up to 20 m2. The product has low toxicity.

"Clean house"

This Russian company makes fly and mosquito repellent plates for electric fumigators. It contains pyrethrum and insecticidal oil. The operating time of one plate is up to 12 hours. The effect of fumigation occurs within 8-10 minutes, and the death of insects occurs within an hour.

Other

Also on sale there are plates and liquids of such brands as Mosquitall, Nekusayka, Komaroff, Kaput. They act in a similar way and contain similar substances in their composition.

How to use?

For the correct use of the pyrotechnic appliance, pay attention to the following instructions:

  1. the fumigator is carefully released from the packaging and placed on a refractory surface (porcelain, ceramics, glass or brick);
  2. one end of the device is set on fire with a lighter or matches and the flame is blown out (the plate should smolder, but not burn);
  3. placed so that the product is at a distance from people, animals and flammable objects, and also has an open space around (at least one meter).

The spiral-shaped pyrotechnic fumigators can be suspended.

After all the manipulations, you must thoroughly wash your hands in order to wash off the remnants of the active substance. As a rule, this type of insecticide is not applied indoors. It is only permissible to fumigate individual rooms, but subject to through ventilation (windows and doors must be open).

Manufacturers recommend observing such strict measures for a reason. In the composition of pyrotechnic fumigators, allethrin or pyrethrin is most often present. These are very toxic substances, but provided that the instructions are strictly followed, they will not harm humans and pets.

Electrofumigators are used according to the following algorithm:

  1. an active substance (liquid or plate) is inserted into the device;
  2. the device is plugged into an outlet;
  3. evaporation of the active substance occurs, due to which the effect of scaring away or destroying flies is achieved.

Please note that most fumigants contain DEET insecticide. This substance causes paralysis in insects and allows you to quickly solve the problem. The main advantage of DEET is the absence of smell. Some manufacturers produce products with only natural ingredients. They are usually less effective and have an odor that can be very weak or strong. If you have allergies or diseases of the bronchopulmonary system, then the natural substances in the composition of fumigators should be discarded.

Security measures

So that the extermination of flying insects in an apartment or on the street does not lead to negative consequences, simple rules should be followed.

  • Before using the fumigator for the first time, read the manufacturer's instructions. It describes the features of the active substance used, and also gives recommendations to help avoid problems with the device.
  • Only plug the device into a working socket and only in an upright position.
  • Do not use the device in rooms without natural ventilation. Moreover, some manufacturers recommend leaving the window slightly ajar overnight.
  • Do not touch the operating device with wet hands. It is life threatening.
  • It is advisable not to place a working fumigator closer than 1.5 meters from sleeping people.
  • If symptoms of poisoning appear during operation of the device (nausea, vomiting, dizziness), then immediately turn off the fumigator and thoroughly ventilate the room. In the future, substances with a similar composition should be avoided, since such a reaction may indicate an individual intolerance to the components of the plate or liquid from insects.
  • Store spare plates and fluid, as well as an inoperative fumigator, out of the reach of children. Despite the fact that most insecticides are low-hazard substances, a child can be poisoned by them.
  • Do not store the fumigator and spare plates in the kitchen, in the immediate vicinity of food.

Following these simple rules, you can use any fly fumigators and sleep peacefully.

"Mosquitall Turbo Professional Protection" is nonsense. The midges, not only in 15 minutes (as indicated on the website and in the instructions), but even in 3 hours, not even a single one was driven out of the fumigator's range of action, not to kill ...
