Advantages and disadvantages

Marble chips in landscape design have long won the love of the owners of their own plots and houses and are successfully used in the design of various territories. It can often be found in the design of urban objects: in parks, walking areas. And this is no coincidence. This material has many advantages.

  • It's easy to find at any hardware store or garden store.
  • There is no particular difficulty in transporting it. Sold in bags and buckets.
  • A very large selection of colors, you can choose for every taste and make both monophonic tracks and bright compositions. In addition, the sizes are different, which also allows you to experiment with the design.
  • This material is very easy to work with. Additional skills and experience are not required, as well as any special tool.
  • Caring for this material is simple.
  • Besides, it is very easy to change something over timeby removing the old material and posting the new one.
  • This material can be used and in the form of mulch, which will give a neat look to flower beds, beds, tree trunks.

The most important advantage is that any garden decorated with marble chips will always look well-groomed and very beautiful.

As for the shortcomings, there are not many of them. The first and, perhaps, the most important - this is a rather high cost... It's one thing when you need to arrange a small fragment, and quite another when you need to arrange large areas in the garden. You will have to order several cubes and pay also for delivery. That is, it is difficult to call such a design option a budget one.

In addition, if you use marble chips in the form of mulch, you need to carefully study the needs of plants. This type may not be suitable for everyone, this must be taken into account. Well, the last minus - this is a problem only for the very lazy. The minimum care for such compositions and tracks is still needed.

Use cases

The use of marble chips in landscape design is the widest. Probably, only your imagination can limit its use.

  • If finances permit, it can be used to cover the entire yard. The filling can be done in different ways. For example, a white crumb can be the main component, and a colored one can be used as a drawing.
  • In the landscape, paths that separate certain territories also look very good.... You can use a wide variety of colors, maybe they will overlap with other elements of the garden design.
  • The design of various compositions is popular, including a dry stream, a lake and even a waterfall... It can also be just a composition using different colors and sizes of marble chips.
  • Used as a flower mulch is both beneficial and attractive. There is even an option for matching the color of the pebbles to the shade of the flower buds. You can also create different patterns on the flower beds.

How to stack correctly?

The styling technology is quite simple. Everyone can handle it. It is important to follow certain recommendations and do everything efficiently. The consumption of marble chips per 1 m2 depends on the planned work, on the depth of the path, flower beds and other structures. For example, when backfilling with a layer of 3 cm, an average of 20 kg will be needed, with a shallower depth, respectively, and the consumption will be less. Consider how you can make a path in the garden.

  • First you need outline the area where marble chips are to be laid, this is especially true if the path is not straight, but winding.
  • Further it is necessary to clear this space of weeds, dig the earth to the desired depth, approximately 10 cm. The earth must be well tamped.
  • Then follows lay a small layer of fine crushed stone... You can mix the substrate with sand.
  • Next stage - laying of geotextiles. Some people think that it is not necessary to lay it. But in fact, this is a very important point. After all, it is the dense material (preferably black) that will protect the area from weed germination.
  • So that the future track retains its shape, you need to install fences, they just dig into the ground... For a more dense immersion, you need to knock on the top with a hammer. It is enough for the fence 1 cm to enter the ground. These can be plastic or steel bendable structures.
  • And the very last stage - laying marble chips... It must be poured into a prepared trench and leveled well with a rake or just by hand.

Care Tips

In order for the garden to please for a long time with its beautiful paths and flower beds, you need to provide them with proper care. It is carried out as the composition becomes dirty.

  • You need to remove the top layer from the track.
  • Place the pebbles on polyethylene. Rinse well with water, simply by hosing.
  • After that, stones should be placed in a container and filled with water and any detergent.... It is permissible to add bleach only if the stones are white.
  • After a few hours, the stones need to be mixed well, the water is drained and rinsed with clean water. After that, the pebbles can be laid out in their usual place. They will dry out in the sun.

This procedure can be done once or twice a year. The rest of the time, stones can be treated with water from a hose directly at their location. But it is one thing to wash the stones of a small path, and quite another to disassemble the whole composition that takes up most of the yard. In this case, it is enough just to collect dry debris, fallen leaves. Then rinse the pebbles with a hose without changing their location.

In addition, weeds can periodically break through on the path itself and near it, even despite the laying of geotextiles. They must be removed in time so that the grass does not grow and spoil the appearance of the structure.
