In the house of every self-respecting man there should be a large number of tools for all occasions. One of the most popular and versatile of them will be a jigsaw. This tool is intended for sawing various materials and without it it is difficult to imagine their life for people who often have to work with such material as wood.

Peculiarities

Despite the fact that the structure, which has an electrically mini-jigsaw, can hardly be called any complex, its mechanism still has a number of specific features that should be dealt with. First, you need to understand what exactly makes the saw blade perform reciprocating movements.

The main of any such device, where there is an electric drive, are:

  • reducer;
  • electric motor;
  • a rod with a clip for a saw.

If we talk about components of a secondary type, then we should name:

  • button to start;
  • support roller;
  • sole;
  • cooling Fan.

More precisely, the movement of the saw blade begins by drawing energy from the engine, which appears after pressing the start button. Rotation is transmitted along the shaft to a special gearbox that interacts with the stem. It is in its mount that the file is installed, which will be responsible for cutting the material. In order to reduce the load on the stem, the rear edge of the saw blade abuts against a support roller.

This allows you to use all the components of the device and cut all kinds of materials at home.

Tools and materials

To make a jigsaw with your own hands, be it a belt, tabletop, manual or foot-operated jigsaw, we will need:

  • block of wood;
  • elongated and rectangular metal plates;
  • saw with a U-shaped shank;
  • electric motor;
  • electric circuit closure key;
  • gas stove nozzle;
  • a spoke from a bicycle;
  • circle made of plastic;
  • a piece of plywood;
  • bolts, nuts and screws.

If we talk about tools, then we need to have on hand:

  • a hacksaw for working with metal;
  • triangular file;
  • a pair of pliers;
  • scissors for cutting metal;
  • pencil;
  • a screwdriver or drill that comes with drills.

Naturally, we also need a diagram and drawings of the future device. And without their presence, work in no case should be started.

Note that the list of materials and tools may differ slightly in different cases. This list can be taken as a guide, but depending on the model being assembled, it can be supplemented.

How to do it yourself?

Now let's directly talk about how to assemble a jigsaw on wood with our own hands. We will consider various options for creating it.

Making from a sewing machine

This is the simplest way to make an electric jigsaw. It is almost completely ready due to the fact that the sewing machine has a similar operating principle and already has a table, which is the basis of the device.

A jigsaw from a sewing machine will have a saw stroke regulator, which will have a mode switch on the equipment. To make such a device, you literally need to slightly upgrade the sewing machine. It is required to remove the part responsible for the weaving of the threads. It is usually located at the bottom of the device.

It is necessary to unscrew the bolts, knock out the cotter pin, and then dismantle the drive-type shaft, which hides the thread weaving knot.

Now it remains to open the panel from above, which serves as protection, to expand the groove along which the needle moved to the size of the width of the file itself.

Also, in this case, you will need to slightly modify the saws for the device. They must be trimmed to fit the longest needle that could be fitted to the machine. In order not to have to create an adapter for fixing the cutting element in place for landing, the cutters should be ground off from above, which sharpens the lower region of the blade.

The last step is to insert the cutter into the needle holder. After that, you can start testing the device and the subsequent creation of blanks.

From the refrigerator compressor

Another option that can be realized even by a person who is not too versed in electrical engineering is from a refrigerated compressor. To create, you will need a not too large compressor motor, which is in every refrigerator, as well as a crank-connecting rod system.

Even better when it comes to a motor-compressor, where the rotor of the motor is mounted directly on the compressor shaft, and the stator is attached to the compressor housing. Before disassembling the compressor, it must be drained of oil. You can make a couple of not too large holes in its end for this. On the opposite side from the one where the wires are connected, it is required to cut the body with a grinder around the circumference.

We carry out the dismantling of the cylindrical head by unscrewing the four bolts securing it to the compressor casing. In the piston end, we drill a couple of holes to a depth of about one centimeter using a drill with a diameter of three and a half millimeters, after which an M4 format thread is made.

We bolt a specially made head to the piston end so that the jigsaw can be fixed. The simplest version of such a head will be a metal cylinder, the diameter of which will be slightly smaller than the diameter of the piston. Its height will be about two centimeters. In such a cylinder, a pair of vertical holes with a diameter of about 4 millimeters and one hole with a diameter of 6 millimeters and a depth of about 15 millimeters should be drilled. It will also be necessary to make a through hole with a diameter of about five millimeters, where the M5 thread should be. On both sides of the head, you will need to screw a couple of bolts into it, with which the file is clamped in the hole in the center.

Now we attach the table to the compressor casing with four screws, where it is necessary to cut a hole for the file. It is easy to buy the latter in a store or make it yourself by cutting out a disc-type saw blade or cutting the teeth using a cutting disc of an angle grinder.

The compressor must be fixed on a wooden platform, which is made from a board two centimeters thick, or from a chipboard board using two corners, as well as a clamp made of galvanized metal strip. A switch should be attached to the platform, as well as an electromagnetic type starter.

As a result, you should get a device that will have all the features of a stationary electric jigsaw. This eliminates the need to hold it while guiding the file along the contour. Immediately it will be necessary to hold exactly the workpiece and direct it under the saw, which will move up and down, and turn so that the cut is carried out along the contour drawn earlier. It will be much more convenient.

Speaking of power, let's say that this indicator of a single-phase motor from a refrigerator will be enough to cut a birch board with a thickness of 3.5 centimeters. If the wood is less dense, then you can even cut versions with a thickness of 5 centimeters.

The only thing worth mentioning is that the engine should not run for a long time, as it tends to heat up quickly.

From a drill

Another option for making a jigsaw is from a drill. The body of such a device will be made of a channel, and the cover will be made of sheet steel. The adapter will be a sleeve, which on one side will be bored along the diameter of the outer bearing cage, and on the other, along the outer diameter of the drill body. Also, a kind of ditch should be made under the retaining type ring.

On the body itself, the adapter should be fixed by welding, then the M5 type thread should be marked and made for machine handles, bolts securing the posts, and so on.

A through-type hole is made along the gear axis, and grooves are selected at the end of its element in the form of a cylinder in order to obtain protrusions that will ensure its docking with the clutch, which will connect the shaft to the gear.

At one of the ends, grooves must also be made and a hole made for a pin, which will fix the coupling on the drill shaft. By the way, work should also be done on the shaft, namely, to bring it on a lathe to a diameter of 10.5 millimeters. From its end, a thread of the M6 ​​type should be made, and then assemble the drill together with the electric coupling.

You should also slightly modernize the gear wheel, namely, bore it under the bearing along the outer type cage, make a hole in it and press in the rod drive pin, as well as the bearing.

With the help of the machine, an axis should be carved, similar in appearance to a bolt with a larger head, so that it does not protrude from the plane of the wheel with teeth. The curtain is made from a piece of steel. Next, we create a barbell from a steel bar, which must be machined from two parts. We press the rod into the stage, fixing it with bolts. We make a bushing-saw holder from a pipe, in which holes must be made for a pin and a thread for a bolt must be made.

It remains only to assemble this structure and attach a handle and a support roller to it. It will be fixed at the top of the machine between the two cheeks. The file should be positioned so that the teeth point upwards to level out vibration and vibrations. You also need a good outsole. Here, a bed can be used, rather than a table, to make it easier to saw some large objects.

Homemade jigsaw accessories

It often happens that the file goes to the sides during the operation of the jigsaw. To prevent this from happening, you can use a homemade nozzle. For the blank, we need a file in the shape of a triangle. A shank is made on it, like on the file itself. It is enough to insert it into a power tool and start working.

You can also create a shank from a round file. To do this, cut the file to the length of the saw. On the sharpening machine, we orient along the edge and grind off unnecessary metal up to 1.5 mm thickness or another size, depending on the type of device. After that, we insert it into the hole of the jigsaw, and you can start working.

You can also make a saw for a jigsaw. To do this, we will need an ordinary jigsaw file, so that we can use it to make a blank from the panel. She has maidens functions - sawing wood and sawing metal. First, using a ruler, we divide the workpiece into two equal parts, after which we make it deeper and draw 2 lines.

With the help of two nippers along the cut, we break it and get a couple of blanks. One of them is intended for working with wood, and the other with metal. Now we apply the file to the workpiece and repeat the contours. You should cut out a place for the lock, where the file will be attached to the jigsaw, and mark the length.
