The Tuscan style (aka Italian and Mediterranean) is suitable for people who appreciate comfort and sunny shades. The interior, decorated in this style, looks simple and elegant at the same time. It involves the use of seemingly incompatible things like columns and wooden beams. This combination is typical for the Italian style, which will be discussed in the article.

History of origin

As you might guess, Italy is the birthplace of the Tuscan style. It arose in the middle of the twentieth century, when urban sprawl led to the "absorption" of nearby villages. Tuscany is the most famous wine-growing region of Italy in the world. Wine-savvy people know what a Chianti Classico glass is worth.

It is difficult not to pay attention to the Tuscan landscapes: green hills are densely planted with vineyards, orange trees, jasmine bushes. Since the main feature of Tuscan houses is unity with nature, the trend is also observed in the interior decoration. All natural gifts are used by the inhabitants of Tuscany to create a harmonious interior.

Finish and color palette

For decoration of a Tuscan-style home, only natural materials are chosen: ceramics, wood, stone, glass. Nowadays, one can often see textured plaster on the facades of Tuscan houses. When decorating the interior in this direction, you need to adhere to a certain color scheme: black, green, cream, brown shades. Colors are especially popular in the Tuscan style: terracotta, red, brick, sunny orange.

The color scheme should be dominated by warm shades, and tones such as blue, green or blue are added in case you want to create a feeling of coolness.

The floors in a Tuscan house are finished with stone, mosaics, and it is also allowed to combine these materials. In the case of a limited budget, natural stone can be replaced with artificial imitation. Tuscan residents do not make ceilings stretch or suspended, but they can consist of wooden planks - the emphasis is on naturalness.

Walls are often plastered in white, and also use Venetian plaster in blue, gray, green, yellow ocher tones. It looks impressive, looks like natural marble, and is practical.

Another characteristic feature of the Tuscan-style house is the stucco with mural painting. Mosaic tiles can be seen not only on the kitchen wall, but they are also used for fountains. Natural stone is suitable for decorating fireplaces, columns or an arched opening.

Interesting fact! The shooting of the film "Under the Tuscan Sun" took place in a real Tuscan house - Villa "Laura". The house, built back in 1504, was in an abandoned state; it is currently being renovated.

Choosing furniture

When creating a Tuscan interior, one rule applies - it must be at the same time simple and elegant. This is achieved through decoration, color palette and, of course, furniture. It differs in smooth, polished surfaces, classic lines, and the legs of the chairs and table seem to have just been made of carved logs.

There are no unnecessary details in the furniture. Wooden cabinets with memorable accessories, such as a set of ceramic pots, a large frying pan, a bunch of herbs, look great in the kitchen design.

The lockers are most often without doors and show the contents of the house to the owners and guests of the house: dishes, dried herbs, tablecloths or arranged books. Tuscan homes often have mosaic countertops. Furniture, as a rule, has stained glass inserts or forged elements in the doors.

Most of all, the fireplace attracts attention in the interiors - it brings coziness to the house, disposes to warm communication by the fire on cool evenings. And, of course, every manor house has a wine cellar.

In the bedroom of a Tuscan house, the most delightful detail is the wardrobes hidden in niches that do not visually “eat up” the space.... If necessary, you can make such a redevelopment in your house. A wrought-iron bed is always present in the Tuscan bedroom, while it does not weigh down the interior, even despite its size.

In the bedroom or study, you can put a modern stove stove. It will warm you in cold weather and bring harmony.

Interior examples

To make your kitchen look Tuscan, you must say goodbye to wallpaper. For wall decoration, ordinary plaster is used. The walls near the work surfaces are laid out with decorative tiles. In the interior, the inhabitants of Tuscany pay great attention to lighting - it is natural, and it does not matter whether the windows face the south or north side.

Tuscan homes feature vintage and antique details, while bedrooms and living rooms feature tapestries or fabric wallpaper. Pictures with landscapes of Tuscany, fruits, wine bottles and still lifes, which the inhabitants of Tuscany like to hang on the walls, will be quite useful in the interior. Mirrors, chandeliers and candlesticks are important decorative elements, these things must be made of metal.

When decorating your home in a cozy Tuscan style, do not forget about the details that can be found at any flea market: clay pots, frescoes, mirrors, candlesticks. If there is no wicker furniture, then the house must have at least a wicker basket with juicy fruits.

The Tuscan interior will transform any urban apartment, turning it into a cozy, sunny nest.
