Stalin's Empire style in the interior is an expressive and extraordinary style. It implies specific furniture for an apartment and a house, special requirements for the choice of a chandelier, table and wallpaper. In addition to the characteristic features of the style, you will have to deal with the finishing of the floor and ceiling, with the peculiarities of lighting, with the selection of accessories, with the key recommendations of the designers.

What is this style?

Assessments of the past gradually change over time, lose their former emotionality and become more balanced, based on logic and facts. It is becoming clearer and clearer, for example, that the 1950s were the period of the greatest qualitative upsurge in the USSR and, at the same time, a period of breakdown. But a significant architectural heritage remained from that era - the so-called Stalinist Empire style.

It manifested itself in a specific way both on the facades of houses and in the interior of the apartments themselves. It is impossible to confuse such a composition with something else.

When you visit such a dwelling, you immediately discover the characteristic coziness, comfort and special flavor. Such construction was carried out on a large scale in 1930-1955. (which gave the name to the style). A typical project would have had 4 or 5 separate rooms. The kitchen was not very large and the ceilings were 3 or 4 meters high. The windows could face either one or two sides at once.

A hall and a large living room were envisaged. They almost always tried to make high windows and bay windows. An important "passing" component was the location in the best part of the city and the corresponding views from the windows.

In the interior itself, the following are traditionally found:

  • stucco molding;

  • large width ceiling cornices;

  • sockets for chandeliers;

  • herringbone wooden floors (separate for each room);

  • crystal lamps;

  • square and rhombic glass layout;

  • high interior doors of white color with wood carvings (glazing is made both completely and partially);

  • dark furniture imitating oak or dark walnut;

  • Grandfather Clock;

  • round dining tables;

  • cabinets with leather sofas and a characteristic green lamp on the table;

  • crystal vases;

  • elegant dishes;

  • silver plate;

  • an abundance of paintings and books;

  • traditional red carpets.

Not all of these attributes are necessarily present today. However, the abundance of decor, the focus on maximum beauty and comfort remains unchanged.

The most important attribute of the style is the use of what is recognized as antiques at the time of creation.

This approach is consistently popular and attractive, despite all the latest design delights. The time has come, however, to find out what caused this, what else you need to know to arrange housing in the appropriate spirit.

Specific traits

It would be naive to think that stucco molding and other outwardly noticeable elements are the distinctive features of the Stalinist Empire style. The most important thing is not even in them, but in the very essence of the plan. Since ancient times, civilizations of dwellings have been created according to two types: in one they simply tried to survive somehow, in the other - to demonstrate their power and "weight" in society. As a result, both options turned out to be frankly inconvenient and impractical. The twentieth century, especially in its concentrated expression, broke this approach. The most complete satisfaction of the needs of the tenants came to the fore.

For example, the same stucco molding is not just another decoration, it is also an important means of aesthetic satisfaction and the development of good taste.

For a similar reason, crystal lamps, tall doors with carved platbands, and beautifully looking wooden floors are introduced. High height, spaciousness, large windows - a full-fledged space for life and fulfillment (with excess) of hygiene standards for the same insolation or ventilation. It is not for nothing that they have been talking about the comfort of such a dwelling for a very long time.

To decorate the space, they are often used:

  • porcelain figurines;

  • candlesticks;

  • black and white photographs;

  • buffets with beautiful, elegantly arranged dishes;

  • authentic furniture from the "same" era.

Furniture

The main feature of authentic furniture is its versatility. It is quite logical in such an interior to look like an old-style sideboard made of dark wood. It harmoniously fits even into a bright studio-type kitchen-living room. In the study, it is recommended to put an antique cabinet from the same era.

Important: all objects must be clearly visible and well remembered. At the same time, overloading the premises with antique furniture is categorically unacceptable!

The main goal remains unchanged - comfort, convenience and well-being. If the room already has a matching chair, table and wardrobe, then there is no point in using any other additions of the same kind. Everything should be thought out in advance - what will fall where and how. Of course, no plastic can be used in such an interior.

Reproducing the traditional approach, they use the following furniture set:

  • bed;

  • a pair of pedestals near the bed with places for lamps;

  • trellis instead of a bedside table;

  • a wardrobe (not a dressing area!);

  • dresser;

  • bookcases (everywhere except the bedroom).

Wall, floor and ceiling decoration

When choosing finishing materials for the Stalinist Empire style today, of course, all synthetic solutions must also be rejected. Paper wallpapers are quite appropriate. For your information: they do not always have a light color, they use burgundy, pure brown or coffee tone much more often. An ornament (for example, a strip) is allowed, but excessive brightness is contraindicated for it; floors and ceilings are sheathed exclusively with wood.

They also use in decoration:

  • bronze;

  • brass;

  • marble;

  • granite;

  • ceramics.

Color spectrum

In terms of color, the Stalinist Empire style is harsh and strict. Brown, black, beige and green tones will absolutely dominate.

Avoid bright colors.

It is recommended to decorate the walls in pastel colors. Interior doors, along with the white main part, always contain multi-colored glazing.

You can also take a closer look at the combinations:

  • emerald and brick;

  • mustard and gray iron;

  • dandelion and opal green;

  • linen and mahogany tones.

Lighting

Ordinary lamps will not look harmonious in such an environment.

The use of pompous chandeliers is ideal, referring to the period of classicism.

These are multi-track products with bronze shades or with its imitation. They tried to hang the chandeliers with faceted crystal pendants. On tables and other furniture, mostly vintage lamps with green shades are installed (other colors are less authentic); sconces are more varied, but care should be taken when choosing them so as not to go beyond the style.

Accessories

The most important elements of the furnishings in the spirit of the Stalinist Empire were plaster rosettes. A good addition to the interior can be:

  • thematic porcelain;

  • mechanical watches;

  • plaster and copper figurines;

  • candlesticks;

  • paintings and photographs "from the past";

  • tablecloths and napkins;

  • mirrors in luxurious frames.

Room design ideas

In living rooms, it is appropriate to put wall bookcases. Glazed sections are decorated with elegant tableware and sets. TVs are placed on a stand or mounted using a wall console. Additionally, the clock is set "with striking". In the kitchen, instead of a headset, place a sideboard, stone or oak countertop.

A fringed tablecloth is placed on the table. The bedroom has space for a two-door glossy wardrobe and family photos. A carpet is certainly placed on the floor, a wall carpet - at personal discretion. In the study there are large, tall solid wood bookcases; the use of stylized figurines and well-known symbolism looks logical. The hallway is decorated luxuriously, they put a carpet runner, put a carved trellis, a couch, a floor hanger.

Beautiful examples

For example, such an interior looks gorgeous. There are light and dark components, as well as emphatically solid wood furniture. This is not only a spacious, but also, undoubtedly, a colorful room.

Shown here is a decent, harmonious study; the use of modern technology does not violate the general approach, and even dark colors do not look heavy.

Well, this is another good solution: a wooden floor, a combination of a light top and a dark bottom, emphasized classic furniture.
