The industrial style in the interior is very popular, but often causes criticism due to illiterate implementation. This style of design involves specific furniture, including round coffee tables, and is compatible with a variety of kitchen and living room, bathroom and hallway lighting fixtures. It is imperative to take care not only of lighting and furniture, but also of accessories, colors, and the design of individual rooms.

What it is?

The story about the industrial style should start with the fact that this format should not be confused with the well-known loft. By decorating a room in an industrial way, you can create a rather rough and tough space in spirit. Industrial only allows the use of bare concrete floor. For comparison: in a loft, it is allowed to use wooden floors. The industrial style always includes the use of seemingly "unfinished" natural materials and structures, as if borrowed from an old factory (hence the name).

Of course the industrial style owes its appearance to the industrial revolution. Yes, it shocked a lot of people at first. But gradually, primarily due to changes in the social plan, behind the "noisy rumbling mechanisms" they were able to see a kind of romance. The bottom line is that individual features of an industrial enterprise are not simply introduced into a dwelling; its appearance is imitated as fully as possible.

It may seem that people themselves make life difficult for themselves - but still, this approach has many adherents.

Specific traits

It is very easy to understand the most important features of "industrial" apartments and private houses - at first glance it seems that the renovation has not been completed here. Striking manifestations of the style are:

  • typical production paraphernalia;
  • exposed electrical wiring, pipes and valves for them, steam and water heating batteries;
  • an abundance of rough surfaces;
  • emphatically rough and harsh textures;
  • natural range of colors;
  • a small number of bright inclusions (selected with taste).

An important feature of the industrial style is the high ceiling. After all, this is exactly how things are in real factories and factories, therefore, the effect of maximum authenticity arises. If wires run along the top of the building, then they should go as open as possible, ideally in the very middle of the verkhotura. Naturally painted metal pipes are encouraged. If the house has a staircase, then it is usually also made of metal, and the metallic color must be shown as much as possible; an alternative solution is concrete steps on a metal frame.

Furniture

Industrial is more eclectic in terms of furniture. This is quite logical - when furnishing factories and factories, attention is not paid to any consistent approach. On the contrary, they try to maximize the functionality, and this is the most important consideration. However, since a residential building is a residential building, you should still pay attention to a pleasant appearance. It is quite possible to put a wooden chest of drawers or a round coffee table.

A very logical move turns out to be the use of leftovers and parts of production equipment as the basis for furniture products. You can get a good writing or work table from the workbench.Old plumbing or gas pipes make the perfect frame for a shelf or cabinetry.

The very outer surface of the furniture should ideally be made of metal.

There are no decorative elements at all. Only the simplest shapes and straight contours are allowed. For your information: it is not necessary to buy a new product or order it from professional designers. Many suitable examples are sold on the secondary market. In some cases, furniture products with leather upholstery or matting are used; after all, you need to take care of your personal comfort.

Color spectrum

Suitable colors are suggested by the very idea of styling the house as a factory building. The most traditional are white, blue, beige tones. Gray is also widely used. An alternative solution is not to combine different colors, but to choose one of them, varying only shades across the entire spectrum. But this does not mean that you should ignore bright colors - you just need to use them appropriately. It turns out to be quite rational use of expressive accents, for example, the placement of a bright scarlet fire extinguisher against the background of a pure white wall.

Lighting

Luminaires for an industrial house are most often made of metal or made of thick frosted glass. The choice between minimalistic and bulky designs is at the discretion of the residents themselves. A typical solution is in many cases the use of "bunches" of light bulbs connected through open wiring. Edison's lamp is a prime example of this. An industrial-style ceiling chandelier can be a true decoration of a home space, breaking the traditional routine.

In some cases, light bulbs suspended on long thick wires become a pleasant and completely organic decor. Such and other specific products look simple at the same time, but at the same time attract attention with a guarantee. Suitable as a basis for luminaires:

  • gears;
  • rusted pipes;
  • bicycle chains;
  • old cans;
  • meat grinder;
  • worn out typewriters (in this case, it is quite appropriate to use light bulbs with letters printed on them).

Accessories

Decorative items for an industrial style should be used in a limited number and as discreet as possible. They should look as natural as possible. Light curtains can be used if desired. However, it is perfectly acceptable to refuse them - and this is exactly what the designers recommend to do.

If, nevertheless, it is decided to use curtains, then they should reach the very floor.

A more practical solution is to use blinds. Important: no matter what decor is used, it obeys one strict rule - you cannot use small objects and drawings. But quite effective solutions are:

  • large volumetric sculptures;
  • large-sized paintings;
  • advertising boards;
  • non-standard drawings.

Design ideas for different rooms

Bedrooms

Expression of the industrial style of the bedroom is achieved through artistic representations. The use of concrete or brick walls and large beds is encouraged. It is perfectly acceptable to use lamps with metal shades. It is also recommended to use metal objects, including furniture, to achieve a suitable result. On a concrete wall, open shelves will look very attractive, which are made with plants, decorative objects, paintings and single bright decor.

Living room

When decorating this room in an industrial style, again suitable furniture is usually selected. Note: Concrete walls are best avoided, but brick surfaces are a very good choice. It is advisable to use black and white and gray colors (with varying shades). In some cases, it is diluted with elements that create the atmosphere of a country cottage. For decoration, objects are used that are reminiscent of the 1960s - 1970s.

Hallway

There should be as little furniture as possible in such a room. It is imperative to strive for its functionality and practicality. Folding and transforming (multifunctional) interior items are very good. In the process of finishing, stone and brick, or their imitation, are used. If you don't like these options, you can use wallpaper with atypical textures.

The decor and lighting equipment are selected to their liking, discarding only frankly old-fashioned components and eco-style components. It is impractical to decorate cabinets and shelves in living rooms. The best option is simple white, black or gray shelves. Space zoning is carried out using cabinets or due to the specific finishing of some areas. It is advisable to fit mirrors.

Such solutions are also popular:

  • gray and black wallpaper;
  • skirting boards that are similar in color to the walls;
  • emphasized "rubbed" laminate or parquet;
  • decorative elements with rough surfaces;
  • large avant-garde paintings;

graffiti and road signs.

Bathroom

A key option for an industrial bathroom is the use of black and white plumbing. These components will enhance the overall elegance of the furnishings. The room will look fresh and interesting if you use houseplants. A shower enclosure made of metal frames and glass surfaces turns out to be very attractive. Other suitable options would be:

  • gray concrete-like tiles;
  • furniture in rich colors;
  • glass walls;
  • rough metal and painted pipes;
  • detached baths, finished with metal;
  • shells of the original look.

As for tonality, the industrial bathroom is mainly painted in:

  • Gray;
  • White;
  • black;
  • dirty blue;
  • khaki colors.

Kitchens

In such rooms, it is quite logical to use walls covered with tiles and bricks. Sometimes the walls are made of concrete - and then it is not worth finishing it. Such industrial kitchens are featured even in projects promoted by experienced designers. The room is decorated a little softer or a little harder, focusing on their own tastes. The use of high-quality cabinets and countertops will look gorgeous.

In the vast majority of cases, it is recommended to use gray. The shade is chosen in such a way that the industrial spirit and exceptional refinement are optimally combined. If the final decision is not approved, it is required to start with the introduction of suitable luminaires. Only then gradually other elements of the industrial interior are introduced. At the same time, the balance of the design is checked all the time.

An industrial kitchen can be relatively small in size. Hanging racks will be an excellent filling for it. Shelves are encouraged to hide unnecessary items. The factory container site can be a replacement for the traditional storage room. The necessary color is also created with the help of untreated metal pipes.

Important: the main pipes for plumbing and ventilation in an industrial kitchen must be installed openly. It is logical to add point light sources to them. The use of the most modern household appliances, chrome-plated surfaces is justified. Of all the tonalities, gray and blue are best.

There should be no decorative items and even protruding handles on the cabinets.

Beautiful examples of the interior

This photo shows a chic version of the industrial style - with furniture that has metal elements and an exposed brick wall. Importantly, the rough part of the room goes well with the one that is decorated as softly and comfortably as possible.

Also, industrial style may look like this. Clear and strict lines, expressed laconic colors fully fit into the created concept. The skillful selection of lamps is also noteworthy.
