How to decorate an interior in the style of the 70s?

The rebellious 70s were reflected in the bright, daring interior design, which is still popular in the design of apartments. Thanks to the peculiarities of the style, you can get an original living decor of the room, which will favorably influence the mood of their owner.

The flourishing of hippie, disco and punk culture gave the fashion world of the 70s many ideas that were inspired by designers and successfully integrated into interior decoration and decor. While minimalism was flourishing in the USSR, which combined functional and practical benefits, a style filled with aesthetic contradictions, manifested in bright means of decor and smooth lines, was actively developing in the USA and Europe.

The style of the 70s in the interior of apartments has its own characteristics.

• Bright accents. In the decor of the room, restrained and bright saturated colors should harmoniously coexist and complement each other, creating a colorful mood, but at the same time not overloading the interior.

• Geometric prints... Large, regular geometric patterns that smoothly complement the interior and do not damage its elegance are an integral part of the style of the 70s.

• Smooth curved lines. Semicircular furniture, irregular carpets or large unusual floor lamps gave the interior a special feeling of constant movement and liveliness.

• Unusual performance of familiar things. The ordinariness in the interior of the 70s fades into the background. Furniture plays an important role in the decoration of a room and is the starting point of style rebellion. Most often, the products were made in the style of the "future" and had a peculiar shape, sometimes reaching the feeling of exaggerated absurdity, but at the same time perfectly fitting into the overall interior.

70s style contains charm and kitsch... Despite the unusual design of the room, it should not cause feelings of overload or vulgarity and interfere with relaxation.

Furniture in the 70s interior was mostly either classic and minimalist using wood and textiles, or irregularly shaped metal or plastic in bright colors. Depending on the purpose of the room, the designer could choose different furniture.

• Hallway... Most often, it was supplied with a trellis (a large mirror with several doors and a dressing table), an unusual-shaped clothes hanger and an armchair with a correct flat back and a comfortable seat in the style of the USSR. On the dressing table was a directory, a vase of flowers and a retro telephone of the original form.

• Living room... A large wall wardrobe in combination with a semicircular long sofa are considered classic attributes of this room. And a coffee table between them was necessary for storing pleasant little things and the ability to put a mug during a comfortable tea party.

• Bedroom... A huge double bed with an unusual headrest, a cozy armchair and a wardrobe that is solid along the wall without obvious handles or doors is a great way to decorate a bedroom in the style of the 70s.

• Kitchen... As a rule, a room is decorated with a sideboard and a kitchen unit of an unusual shape with cut smooth corners. A round or square table is complemented by curved chairs with leather backs.

• Bathroom... A table with an integrated sink, a mirror in a wide frame and a small armchair are required.

Room decor it is recommended to diversify with interesting design ideas, for example, a round mini-fridge, a reel-to-reel retro tape recorder, a spaceship-shaped cabinet, a large chair with a plastic body in the shape of a drop, and much more.

As light sources, you should opt for on a large bright chandelier using metal, wood or plastic, which will effectively complement the decor... It is also worth paying attention on floor lamps with an interesting large textile shade with bright ornaments on it.

Oval mint rug paired with a bright yellow sofa smooth unusual shapes give the room the effect of liveliness. Chairs with bright upholstery perfectly match the color scheme with the surrounding decor, and the legs of the floor lamps and dressing table, although they are massive, do not overload the room.
