It is generally accepted that a modern person needs a lot of square meters for a comfortable life. It is not always so. Paying due attention to the design of a studio apartment with an area of 28 sq. m., you can get unique and functional housing, which will in no way be inferior to large apartments.

Peculiarities

A studio apartment is a fairly modern type of apartment layout, the fashion for which came from the West. They are intended to accommodate one or a maximum of two people. Most often they are occupied by students or people of creative professions due to the low cost of such housing.

The studio apartment does not have a clear division into residential and non-residential areas. Only the bathroom is located separately. The number of walls is always minimal. This distinguishes them from one-room apartments, where all premises are isolated, and their area is clearly divided into non-residential and residential areas.

The area of one-room small-sized apartments is from 20 to 35 sq. m. Almost all typical apartments of the post-Soviet space can be attributed to this type of housing. The layout of one-room apartments of this type did not differ in variety, it does not differ even now, only the proportions and size of the rooms change.

The studio is much smaller compared to the one-room apartment. The kitchen usually does not exceed 7 sq. m., the entrance hall is miniature, the bathroom is combined or separate, but very cramped. Rooms can be different in shape: rectangular, elongated, or located in attics.

Sometimes they are the result of redevelopment of one-room apartments.

We develop a design project

The first thing to decide when thinking about the design of a 28 sq. m. is the volume of work carried out. Sometimes it is enough to rearrange the furniture or change the color scheme of the interior.

Sometimes a major overhaul or a change in layout is required. In this case, you need to obtain permission from the local authorities for some types of work.

This includes demolishing walls, replacing wiring and pipes.

Then it is worth considering and drawing an approximate plan of the future apartment, and on it note which functional areas it is desirable to highlight and equip. Most often, a separate area is made up of a kitchen, and a living room is combined with a bedroom. But the needs of each person are individual, they should be reflected in the future plan. For some, it is important to allocate more space for the kitchen area, while others prefer a large comfortable bed to the detriment of functionality. All these details must be taken into account when planning.

It is necessary to provide for storage space. It is better to take care of wardrobes and books in advance. Organizers or baskets can be adapted for small things.

It is worth abandoning large hanging chandeliers, since they take up too much space and visually make the room smaller. This applies to massive watches and other decorative items.

The layout of a studio apartment directly depends on how many windows there are:

One window

The main advantage of the studio is the abundance of air and space, which creates the absence of walls. In order to emphasize these advantages, the apartment should be well lit.

If there is only one window in the studio, a perimeter-lit ceiling can be a great idea.

There are two options:

  • Cornice lighting... A plasterboard box is installed on the ceiling in the center of the room, inside which an LED strip is attached. Tapes are available in both white waterproof and colored. They differ in power, on which the color intensity depends: 30, 60 and 120 LEDs per one meter. They are inexpensive, last a long time, and do not heat up. Bulbs rarely need to be replaced. This kind of lighting creates a soft glow that creates a relaxed and romantic atmosphere in the room.
  • LED lighting around the perimeter of the ceiling. The LED strip is mounted in a wide foam ceiling skirting board along the walls. This method is cheaper than a drywall box and easier to install.

It is important during installation to connect the backlight to a separate switch so that the main light does not interrupt the LEDs.

Perfectly expanding the space of the mirror. Placing a mirror in front of a window will make the room twice as bright.

Two windows

The studio with two windows is bright and airy enough, does not need additional lighting.

The windows located in one wall allow zoning between them into two rooms: a living room and a kitchen. To "divide" the zones, you can use a bar counter, sofa or partition.

Floor covering plays an important role in zoning.

Window openings are the place that can and should be used to the maximum. Window niches will help save space for storing small items. And if you replace the window sill with a countertop, it will serve as both a dining table and a workplace.

Balcony

It is a great success if the studio apartment has a balcony, since every square meter counts. The extra space can be used for storing things, especially if you install a spacious wardrobe.

Another possible option is to turn the balcony into a lounge area or workplace. Even the smallest balcony will fit a hammock or small table.

To convert a balcony into a separate area, you need to take care of its insulation.

The design of the balcony depends on whether it is a separate room or not. In the second case, it is better to use the same flooring and a single style solution.

We arrange furniture

In order to separate the living area from the non-residential area (for example, the kitchen), you can place a sofa in the center of the room. A large, contrasting rug will outline the boundaries of the living room. If the sofa is fold-out, the living room will become a bedroom as well. This is the most convenient option for small housing. But if desired, with the help of a screen or partition, you can select the bedroom as a separate area.

This option is acceptable in elongated apartments with one window.

If the height of the ceilings allows, you can arrange the bedroom with a second tier. This is a great option for young, creative people.

Shelves or storage boxes are best placed along the walls. If you place books in low shelves along the walls, then the top surface of the shelves can be used as a stand for a TV or decorative items.

A sliding wardrobe perfectly saves space in a small apartment. A mirrored wardrobe will visually add volume and light to your living space. Clothes can also be placed on the floor hanger.

Color solutions

For small spaces, it is best to choose light pastel colors or play with the contrast of white and any of the bright colors. White and yellow, white and orange will create a cheerful and energetic atmosphere, while calmer shades of green and blue will set you up for peace and relaxation.

The Scandinavian style in the interior is perfect for a studio apartment. Its main features are simplicity, minimalism, natural materials, restrained colors.

Design ideas

Idea number 1. Design of a studio apartment with one window

The interior of the apartment is made in white and gray colors. In order to make the room lighter, lighting has been added along the perimeter of the ceiling and several additional light sources that give a zest to the room.

The living room plays the role of a bedroom at the same time and is separated from the kitchen by both a partition and other flooring.

Idea number 2. Design of a studio apartment with two windows

Very bright studio apartment with two windows. The functional division between the kitchen and the living room is made by the bar counter, which also serves as a dining table. Additional space is achieved by combining the balcony and living area.

The room is decorated with natural materials. Cushions create a bright accent.

Instead of one chandelier, several flat light sources are used - so the ceiling appears higher.
