Any meal can be much more enjoyable when the environment is thought out and pleasant to the person. And we are talking not only about various cafes and restaurants, but also about ordinary kitchens in houses and apartments. Often the footage of modern housing does not allow organizing a separate room for eating, so lunches and dinners are held at the kitchen table. In order for the place of family gatherings and tea parties to please the eye, it is necessary to carefully consider the entire furnishings of the room. And the first thing you should pay attention to is the decoration of the wall near the dining table.

Zone features

Unlike other rooms, kitchen walls have their own specifics. Cooking is most often associated with high humidity, grease splashes and other contaminants. It is for this reason that a kitchen apron made of the most hygienic material should always be installed in the work area. To the place of eating, softer requirements are imposed, which differ from the rest of the room.

  • Practicality. You don't need to cover the wall at the dining table with ceramic tiles or plastic panels. However, it is best to choose a material that can be washed or wiped down with a damp cloth to clean up the dirt.
  • Security... Avoid placing the table near protruding corners and door frames. In addition, do not hang heavy wall shelves with crockery or household utensils on this wall.
  • Aesthetics. You need to spend breakfasts, lunches and dinners in a place that pleases the eye. It is not necessary to make expensive repairs in the kitchen and order the services of a designer. However, a large empty surface, against which the gaze of a person sitting at the table will rest, will also not contribute to the feeling of comfort. Of course, you can always hang a TV on the wall, however, medical research has repeatedly cited many arguments against watching TV during a meal.

Materials (edit)

The most popular way to decorate a dining area is to use a variety of finishing materials. All of them can be roughly divided into several main groups.

Wallpaper

Conventional wallpaper has been a popular option for many decades. A huge number of different textures, colors and patterns allow even the most demanding owners to get the desired effect. The old paper products were replaced by dense non-woven wallpaper, the surface of which allows not only dry, but also wet cleaning, which is especially important for the surface located near the place of eating.

Special wallpapers will help you create the atmosphere of an island bungalow, a small Parisian cafe or a Scandinavian house. And various options with 3D-effects will literally feel the light breeze or the aroma of fresh baked goods.

    Brick

Another popular wall design option next to the kitchen table is brick or various types of stone. This design looks especially interesting if a regular table is replaced by a high bar counter.

    Tile

Ceramic tiles are a classic solution for kitchen walls. This is the most convenient and durable way to decorate. A large number of styling options allow you to create original patterns even from plain squares. And many options with different patterns and even whole pictures allow you to choose the perfect pattern for each specific kitchen.

    Panels

The plastic or wood paneling used to line the wall in the dining area is also a great way to decorate it. Natural materials beckon to touch them with the palm of your hand, and a large number of ornaments and plastic colors will facilitate the choice.

    Plaster and paint

Plain plastered and painted walls can also be a stylish accent that catches the eye. For example, if the entire kitchen is made of plastic and metal, then the monotonous and calm surface of the painted wall will attract attention and give the eyes a rest.

    Colors

An important place in the decoration of dining areas is occupied by the colors of finishing materials. In order to make a choice, taking into account not only personal preferences, but also general perception, you need to know exactly how this or that color affects a person.

    • Red and yellow. These colors increase appetite and create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. However, a large amount of bright red has a depressing effect on the human psyche, so it is better to arrange the dining area in soft shades of orange and yellow.
    • Green. Green also increases appetite, while relieving stress and calmness. This impact is especially true for the urban dweller, as large cities with their high pace of life, a large number of dark concrete buildings and a small number of green spaces contribute to an increase in stress levels.

In this case, it is worth giving preference to light and salad shades, since the dirty green color does not look too presentable and neat.

    • Blue and purple. These colors are considered more suitable for the bathroom than for the kitchen. They reduce appetite, which is completely contrary to the purpose of this room. However, they can be used to make bright and interesting accents.
    • Black and white. There is an opinion that black color suppresses appetite, while white, on the contrary, promotes overeating. Perhaps this is the reason that such colors are not used in the kitchen interior separately, but only in combination.

Regardless of which color was chosen in order to decorate the wall next to the kitchen table, the following rules should be remembered:

    • glossy surfaces and cool shades expand the space, giving it darkness and coolness;
    • matt surfaces and warm shades narrow the space, but make it cozy and light.

    Decor options

All decorative elements located on the walls can be conditionally divided into functional and purely decorative. The first include the following options.

      • Diary on the wall. These can be various wall calendars and note boards. It is quite possible to cover the wall itself with special paint, which turns it into a surface for writing with chalk or a marker.

In any case, the area above the surface of the table, even the kitchen one, is a great place to plan your day with your morning coffee.

      • Open shelving. You can expand the useful kitchen space with small open shelves suspended above the table. Even very small boards will allow you to accommodate a lot of useful little things. These can be various spices, beautiful glasses, or cookbooks.
      • Lamps and aquariums. The wall above the dining table is the perfect place to place a small sconce. You don't always want to turn on a bright light during breakfast or dinner. A small lamp that gently diffuses light makes a great addition to your kitchen chandelier. In addition to lamps, a small flat aquarium can be installed in the kitchen wall, into which fish or snails will be launched. Such a bold decision will make any kitchen a real designer find.
      • Watch. Another classic element of the kitchen interior is the wall clock, which allows you to measure the time for baking or marinating. Placing them on the wall of the dining area would be a great solution.

In addition to the above options, there are quite a few different products designed exclusively for interior decoration.

      • Wood. Planks with cut or burnt patterns will fit perfectly into the interior of the kitchen, especially if the rest of the interior is made of natural materials or in natural shades.
      • Mirrors. Unusual, but gaining popularity, is the decision to decorate the dining area with one large or several small mirrors. This will expand the space and brighten the room.

The main thing is to hang the mirror higher so that food and liquid splashes from the kitchen table do not stain its surface.

      • Paintings and compositions. The classic version of wall decor is various paintings, embroidery and panels. If one of the household is fond of needlework, a place on the kitchen wall is ideal for such crafts. In recent years, it has become especially important to decorate walls with complex modular paintings, each of which has its own part of the image. You can make an interesting collage of family photos or paint the surface of the wall itself.

The main thing in this is to soberly assess your artistic skills. In cases where they are deemed insufficient, it is better to use the services of a professional artist.

      • Plates. Painted ceramic plates are now an adornment that has once gone from the walls, but is gaining popularity again. It can be a whole composition, broken into several parts, or souvenirs from various trips.

The main thing is that such fragile jewelry is securely fixed and does not break from falling.
