Recently, metal furniture is gaining more and more popularity and the bed is no exception. The widespread prevalence is primarily due to the wide assortment range of manufactured models. They are purchased not only for the home, but also for various institutions. This primarily applies to single metal beds.

Advantages

An iron bed, in comparison with wood products, and even more so from chipboard, has undeniable advantages and a lot of advantages, thanks to which it has become so in demand recently:

  • The frame that serves as the basis of the beds is made of metal, which, without a doubt, is the most durable and reliable material today. The metal bed is resistant to mechanical stress. She is not afraid of either strong blows or heavy loads. In addition, metal coated with special means is resistant to temperature extremes and high humidity, so single beds are very often purchased for various institutions (hospitals, recreation centers, kindergartens, dormitories).
  • Due to its strength, the metal bed can last for more than a dozen years. Hardly any material has such a long service life. In addition, a metal bed, if necessary, can be easily repaired.
  • Without a doubt, a metal bed can be attributed to environmentally friendly furniture. Metal, unlike wood and chipboard, does not need to be treated with resins or other harmful chemicals that can cause certain harm to health. In addition, this material does not absorb odors and does not emit harmful substances into the surrounding space, and therefore such a bed can be safely installed in a children's room.
  • Any furniture requires maintenance, including those made of metal. Such furniture is easy to care for, it is not afraid of wet cleaning. The metal bed can be cleaned and washed very often, these actions will not be able to cause any damage to the structure.
  • Do not forget that the metal bed goes well not only with any style of the room, but also with many materials. The combination of wood, glass, stone and textiles with metal elements give the product an original look and emphasize the taste of the owners. Depending on the color scheme of the room, the bed frame can look different.

White single forging against the background of pastel shades of the bedroom becomes almost invisible, and the black frame, on the contrary, will attract attention and become a bright accent of the room.

  • An important argument in favor of choosing a single bed is acceptable price... A wide assortment range allows you to choose a model at an affordable cost.

How is it made?

For the manufacture of metal furniture, including a single bed, iron, aluminum, brass (copper-zinc alloy), carbon steel (iron-carbon alloy) can be used. Most often, aluminum and steel are used for manufacturing.

Steel can be stainless, chrome-plated, galvanized or ordinary steel, which has undergone anti-corrosion treatment, painting or polymer coating on the surface of the elements. Hollow pipes or steel profiles with a thickness of 1.5-2 mm are made from these metals or their alloys, from which various models are made.

The connection of metal elements is carried out by two methods: welding and forging.

  • Welding is made using a welding machine that helps to connect (weld) metal structural elements. The resulting seams are sanded and painted.
  • Forging is a more expensive manufacturing method.

There is a hot and cold way.

  • When using the cold method, the metal is heated only in certain places (seams, joints). This method is impossible without special equipment, which is used to cut out and give bends to metal workpieces, which are further welded. This method is not very complicated and very inexpensive, since the elements produced by this method are referred to as standard blanks. The positive aspects of this method include high manufacturing speed, dimensional accuracy and good quality.
  • Hot forging means complete heating of a billet in a furnace to a certain temperature. Each metal has its own melting point. The resulting workpiece is given the desired shape.

There are two methods of hot forging: machine and manual.

When using a machine method, the workpiece is shaped using a hydraulic, steam or machine hammer. The manual method is more time consuming and complex. Shaping the workpiece requires strong physical data and extensive experience of the master.

The final stage in this technological cycle is processing, which consists in applying a coating that not only protects the metal from corrosion, but also gives color to the product due to the pigments present. The coating is a finely dispersed powder polymer, a hardener and various fillers, including pigments. An electric charge is applied to the metal elements, creating an electrostatic field that attracts the powder particles and holds them on the surface of the product.

Then the product is placed in a chamber with heated air, where the applied powder melts under the influence of temperature, forming a monolithic coating on the metal surface.

Design

Any metal single bed consists of a frame, frame, backs, legs and fasteners:

  • Frame is the basis of the product, all structural elements are attached to it. The backs (there are usually two of them in a single version) may have the same size (models for government agencies), or they may differ in size. In home models, the backrest at the head is usually higher than the backrest at the foot.
  • Frame metal bed most often has the shape of a rectangle, sometimes there are models that have a round or oval shape. The base of the frame can be made in the form of springs or a mesh made by braiding steel wire. This surface serves as the basis for simple mattresses. Models where the surface of the bed consists of bent wooden slats are used in conjunction with an orthopedic mattress.
  • Legs any model is installed at the corners of the base and serves as a support for the product.

Variety of designs from different manufacturers

Despite the fact that single beds have a narrow range of sizes, there are many varieties of these metal products produced by various manufacturers that target completely different consumers:

Akkord company produces metal single beds, which are most in demand in medical institutions, recreation centers, hostels, hotels and army barracks. The company produces both single-deck and double-deck models. Both versions are based on a reliable and durable frame, attached to flat steel pipes that act as legs. The backs of different models can be made either of laminated chipboard with an edge protected by a PVC profile, or they consist of bent pipes, which are also the legs of the product.

The base for the mattress can be in the form of a mesh with various modifications, or the surface of the base can consist of birch lamellas and is intended for an orthopedic mattress. Almost all products are 190 cm long, and the width varies between 70-90 cm.

If desired, you can order a product with a greater length. The most common size is 70x200 cm.

Siberia Mebel company is engaged in the production of single metal beds of various modifications, intended mainly for government agencies. The berth for different models may have different options. In addition to the mesh base, which is present in some types of beds, the company produces models where the base can be filled with tubular lintels with a pitch of 13 cm. In addition, models are produced in which the mesh base is additionally reinforced with reliable wedge brackets. In the two-tiered version, the wedge brackets support the plywood sheet, which is the base of the sleeping surface.

The company also produces models on a metal frame. In these models, the side parts and backs are made of laminated chipboard, and the frame itself consists of a profile with a square section.

Ikea specializes in making beds for home use. The metal elements of the beds are made of stainless steel, and their surface is coated with a powder based on polyester resins, which are considered the most safe for human health.

Among the single-bed metal options, the model stands out Ramstashaped like a couch. The sleeping place for this model is 90x200 cm and is equipped with multilayer birch slats, which are able to adapt to the weight of a lying person.

Couch model Firesdal stands out among other couches with the ability, if necessary, to turn into a double bed. When folded, the couch has a size of 88x207 cm, and after transformation, the width becomes equal to 163 cm.For this model, orthopedic mattresses 80x200 cm are suitable.

In addition to regular beds, the company produces metal loft beds and bunk beds, which are usually installed in small spaces. Loft bed Tuffing suitable for children from 6 years old. The sleeping place of this model is equipped with protective bumpers, access to it is carried out using a ladder installed in the center of the structure.

Loft bed model from line Swart, unlike the previous version, has a right-sided or left-sided arrangement of the stairs, and the sides of this structure are made of metal. In this line, bunk options are also produced, which, if desired, can be supplemented with a pull-out metal single bed. Its dimensions correspond to the dimensions of a bunk bed of the same line.

Particular attention is deserved by forged bunk beds made in Malaysia... A distinctive feature of these models is the ability to disassemble the bunk structure into two single beds. In some models, the lower tier is folding, when folded, the structure looks like a sofa.

Beds made in Malaysia are distinguished by their elegance, conciseness, and reliability. They will perfectly fit into any interior.
