The bed is one of the central pieces of furniture not only in the bedroom, but throughout the apartment. It depends on it how comfortable the rest will be. To make the design richer and provide yourself with furniture that will last for many years, you should take a closer look at solid wood models.

Peculiarities

Wood is the most environmentally friendly material. There is nothing in its composition that would emit toxic fumes and substances. This is possible only if the array was processed during production, which rarely happens. Safety is also ensured due to the fact that the wood is easy to process externally, so there are no sharp corners and chips on the furniture.

Solid wood beds are as strong and durable as possible and in total they can last up to two decades. Compared to them, furniture, for example, made of wood-based panels, is less durable and is designed to be used for ten years. Such beds are also good from a design point of view, because wood can be painted, shapes and patterns can be cut out of it. Therefore, solid wood furniture is easy to fit into the interior of any style, to give the atmosphere either a laconic character or, conversely, luxurious and festive. In addition, the wood itself is pleasant to the touch and is able to give the general atmosphere a coziness and warmth.

Lifting beds can save an already small bedroom space.

In addition to its beautiful appearance, such furniture combines a place for storing not only bed linen, but also pillows, blankets or other things. Space in the apartment is significantly limited, so additional boxes will definitely not be superfluous. At the same time, everything stored in the departments is reliably hidden from prying eyes. Externally, the presence of a lifting mechanism does not in any way affect the general appearance and component parts.

Among the disadvantages of solid wood beds is the high price of many models, especially when it comes to noble species. With poor-quality processing, cracks, swelling and chips may appear on the surface, which reduce the service life of the entire product. In general, wood furniture weighs more than most other materials. In addition, creating a bed from scratch takes a lot of time, which should be taken into account when buying not finished products, but ordering them directly from the masters.

There are two types of solid wood beds - solid or glued. The second category involves the creation of furniture from high-quality leftovers after processing the main array. According to their characteristics, such products are the same, but differ only in price and manufacturing method.

For wood made from natural material, it matters which source was taken. There are soft types of wood, for example, pine, spruce, linden, and hard ones - oak, ash, walnut. This indicator determines how easily the array can be processed and how long it can last. Some breeds are classified as valuable, which translates into a corresponding higher value. Oak, cherry, mahogany and ebony are ranked among the noble species.

Among all the options available, the most common are:

  • Pine. It is easily acted upon, has a pleasant coniferous aroma. The most affordable type of wood, therefore, most of the furniture in the middle segment is created from this species.
  • Birch. Another available type of tree. Such a bed has a good strength indicator. The material can deform from excessive exposure to moisture.
  • Beech. Furniture made from this material has a beautiful natural shade. Among the disadvantages is the tendency to dry out and crack if the room is very dry.
  • Ash. Very durable and not picky type of wood. Flexible, and therefore ash beds are often decorated with elements with curved shapes.
  • Nut. This type belongs to the elite category, so the cost of furniture is high. However, the material is durable and durable, and it also has a wide natural range of colors.
  • Oak. The most durable, wear-resistant and durable type of wood. Belongs to valuable breeds.

Lifting beds are available as single, one and a half and double beds. Models for one person have a width of 80-90 cm and a length of 200-210 cm. One and a half beds most often have the following dimensions: 140x200 cm, 160x200 cm.Russian and American standards allow a width of 120 cm, and a length of 210 cm and 190 see accordingly.

The largest and most roomy are the double models. The average size of such products is 180x200 cm, although the numbers can vary and even start from 160 cm in width. Among the double beds in a separate category can be distinguished "royal", the indicators of which start from 200 cm.

Despite the presence of a lifting mechanism, beds can stand both on legs and on a box, a podium. In the second option, there is more storage space. In total, there are three mechanisms for raising the bed:

  • Coiled springs. Beds with such a lift are considered affordable, however, they have a big drawback - over time, the springs wear out, they need to be changed. Such a mechanism can last for about six years.
  • Manual device. There are no springs in its design, so you have to make an effort to lift it. Due to the heavy weight, it is best to remove the mattress to access the drawers, which is difficult to do on a daily basis. The advantage of this mechanism is reliability and durability.
  • Gas shock absorber. A mechanism that requires little or no effort. It provides smooth and quiet lifting. He is capable of serving up to 10 years. The only drawback is the high cost of the product.

Solid wood beds are made in different styles: from minimalistic to luxurious classics.

The direction determines the overall appearance as well as the decor. The product can be laconic, only processed during manufacture and painted, have a small headboard and footboard. But there are also models with carved details, massive columns, and a canopy. Usually, wood is decorated with carvings, patterns, less often covered with upholstery, even on the headboard.

How to choose?

For a comfortable sleep, a person needs a bed with a width of 90 - 100 cm, but for a married couple it is worth choosing a full double bed. The size of the bed and its style should directly depend on the size of the room. So, a massive oak bed with columns will not fit in a small room or it will steal all the free space. For small spaces, it is best to choose models that are modest in design.

The place where the bed will be placed should be foreseen in advance, since at least one free approach should lead to it. Lifting mechanisms open both upward and sideways, which must be taken into account when arranging furniture. It is not recommended to assemble the lifting mechanism yourself. It is best to trust the professionals, since many structures are complex and improper assembly will lead to breakdown.
