Several decades ago, a bright event took place in the field of furniture design. A new chair model has appeared. An unusual piece of furniture in the shape of an egg has won the hearts of both professional designers and ordinary buyers.

This model is still relevant today. New modifications appear, which allows you to choose the right option for any room. Such chairs can be seen in offices, in public places, and in apartments. This article will tell you how to choose the right option among a variety of models.

Peculiarities

In 1957, the ceiling-suspended chair was invented. A year later, a floor model of an egg-shaped piece of furniture appeared, which was named Egg.

The peculiarity of this type is the absence of 4 legs and armrests. The body of the product has a streamlined rounded shape that resembles an egg. The object can be supported or suspended. In any case, the product can be rotated.

Suspended models can also swing.

The virtues of the egg chair are numerous.

  • The body is one-piece, due to which the product is assembled quickly and easily.
  • Originality meets comfort. It is very comfortable to sit in a product of this shape, you can completely relax in it. If the model is suspended, a light swaying additionally calms, gives peace and a feeling of flight.
  • Unusual design allows the product to become a highlight of the interior. At the same time, it will not seem superfluous against the background of the situation, if you choose the right design. The variety of materials and colors allows you to harmoniously fit the product into strict minimalism, and into a brutal loft, and into eco-style.
  • Children like these chairs very much. The shape of the products and their mobility are also attractive. At the same time, the absence of sharp corners minimizes the risk of injury by small users.

Species overview

First of all, hard and soft chairs stand out.

  • Type 1 design - these are garden wicker models, as well as interior chairs made of glass and artificial rattan. Usually these are models suspended from the ceiling or hanging from a rod. Users themselves supplement such products with pillows or fur capes that increase the comfort of the seat. If necessary, textile items are washed or replaced with new ones.
  • Soft models suitable for office and apartment interiors. Typically, these are spinning products on a stand. They are already available with a soft filler. Upholstery fabrics are different (their types will be discussed below).

    Also you can distinguish products with an open top and closed models that resemble half an egg... The former are more often installed in offices, living rooms. They are comfortable to work and relax in. The latter have a more shocking design. Such a chair slightly blocks the person sitting in it from the surrounding environment, which creates an atmosphere of privacy. Usually they are bought for home use, less often they are installed in public places with an ultra-modern design to emphasize the chosen interior style.

    And, of course, ovoid structures are classified according to the type of attachment... Models are distinguished, which are suspended and placed on the floor.

    Let's consider each variety in more detail.

    Suspended

    The product can be fixed in three ways.

    • Ceiling mount. This option is only suitable for buildings with strong ceilings.Before purchasing and installing, it is important to make sure that the overlap will support the weight of the item along with the person sitting in it. For installation, a chemical anchor is usually used.

    It also happens to be mounted on a beam - it can be, for example, a branch of a tree. Of course, it must be thick and sturdy. Otherwise, there will be a risk of collapse of the structure.

    • Support tripod. In this case, the metal frame stands on the floor, and the chair is suspended from it with a chain. Such models are mobile. They can be rearranged anywhere and even taken out into the street in the summer. The main thing is to provide a flat surface for the installation of the structure.

    Outdoor

    Floor standing models are of two types. The former are held on a cruciform pedicle. The second are mounted on a round stand.

    • Crosspiece - the classic version of fastening egg-shaped chairs. It is still used today. The base is made of chrome-plated steel. The edges of the structure are equipped with anti-slip pads. Such products do not have rollers.
    • The round stand was invented later. In some cases, it tapers at the base of the case, and sometimes it is a simple flat disc. In such cases, the base usually has the same color as the chair itself. As a result, the structure looks like a monolithic product.

    Materials (edit)

    The frames of egg-shaped chairs are made from several types of materials. Wicker "openwork" models are made of vines, natural and artificial rattan. The latter material is often colored, giving it different shades. Also on sale there are models made of transparent plexiglass and colored plastic. Metal is usually used only for the manufacture of individual parts (chains, stands). Full metal models are rare. These are mainly designer chairs suitable for loft-style furnishings.

    Different materials can also be used for the upholstery of soft chairs.

    Let's consider the most popular options.

    1. Velours. Velvety material, pleasant to the touch. It is durable, breathable. However, if you often sit on the chair, the pile is gradually rubbed off. This is worth considering.
    2. Micro-corduroy. It is also tactilely pleasant and durable, but has a different texture. It retains its appearance longer.
    3. Wool. This is a natural "breathable" material, quite durable. However, it can cause an allergic reaction in some people.
    4. Scotchguard. Durable and beautiful material. A special impregnation protects such upholstery from dust, moisture, and increases its durability.
    5. Chenille. Soft fleecy fabric with good wear resistance. The only caveat is that it does not allow air to pass through well.
    6. Leather. Strong, durable, moisture resistant material. Such products are usually more expensive than all other options.
    7. Artificial leather. It is often difficult to distinguish such upholstery from natural in appearance. The difference is noticeable only tactilely - the artificial analogue is more rigid. It also does not allow air to pass through well. However, such products are much cheaper than models from the previous category.

    Dimensions (edit)

    The sizes of seats from different manufacturers are approximately the same. Dimensions of open-type floor models:

    • width - 85-90 cm;
    • height - 110-115 cm;
    • depth - 80-85 cm.

    Dimensions of closed floor chairs:

    • width - 85-90 cm;
    • height - 130-150 cm;
    • depth - 85-90 cm.

    Pendant model body dimensions:

    • width - 80-90 cm;
    • height - 105-110 cm;
    • depth - 75-85 cm.

        The boom height is about 2 m.

        If the product is in the shape of a ball or an irregular egg (expanding downward), the width of the body may be greater than the above figures.

        Design options

        A large assortment of egg-shaped chairs allows you to choose an option that suits any interior style.

        V strict retro style the model of an open type with an upholstery made of natural or artificial leather can fit. It is better to choose a classic stand (cross). The color of the upholstery should be neutral and calm.A brown shade would be an ideal choice.

        For loft an armchair of any model will do. In this case, both the stand and the body must be made of metal.

        You can also choose brown or black leather for inner filling.

        Modern directions allow different colors and shapes. You can choose an open floor chair in a bright shade (such as yellow, blue, red and purple). You can stay on a calm muted tone. The upholstery can be fabric or leather, it all depends on personal preference.

        A closed floor chair on a monolithic stand in a two-color design looks original. The body is usually made of fiberglass in a neutral color (white, black). In this case, the inner soft filling can be contrasting (red, turquoise, orange, etc.). Of course, there are also options for sale in soothing colors.

        Many people prefer to decorate apartments decorated in a modern style with acrylic pendant models. The most popular are white and black "fishnet" models on barbells with bright pillows. However, if you wish, you can also find a color version (for example, blue or green).

        Transparent hanging products fit perfectly with the concept of minimalism. Pillows come in a variety of colors. Most often, transparent models are in the form of a hemisphere, but egg-shaped models are also found.

        Ecostyle will ideally complement a model made of natural rattan. Such a model will fit into the Scandinavian direction. A fur cape or fabric pillow can complement the product.

        For outrageous lovers, models are offered that, in addition to the original shape, also have unusual colors. Imitation of patchwork sewn patchwork, the image of the American flag, animal prints (zebra, leopard, cow) and other options simply cannot go unnoticed.

        It is worth mentioning that some modern closed-type models are equipped with additional options. For example, it can be a hidden MP3 player. Of course, transparent chairs do not allow the installation of such systems. However, aesthetics and comfort are already significant advantages of products in themselves.

        Where to put it?

        The floor model can be placed in any place convenient for you. Often these chairs are placed next to the coffee table, in front of the TV or fireplace. The suspended model on the bar requires more free space due to the rocking. This should be borne in mind.

        Particularly carefully consider the placement of the model if you choose a product with a ceiling mount.

        Such a chair cannot be moved without dismantling. It is important to consider a few points here:

        • there should be no hanging products nearby (for example, chandeliers);
        • there must be enough free space so that when rocking the product does not touch other furnishings;
        • the chair should not block the passage, interfere with freedom of movement.

        Beautiful examples in the interior

        • The sunny yellow open model looks perky and attractive. The armchair is the perfect highlight in a neutral setting. An optional stand allows you to stretch your legs and enjoy reading a book or watching TV.
        • The same armchair, but in white, looks completely different. The elegance of the model is emphasized by the nobleness of the leather upholstery. Such an armchair can decorate both the living room and the office.
        • The brown wickerwork fits perfectly into the interior of a country house. The tone of the product is in harmony with the natural finish and decor items. Floral print cushions add a homely feel to the chair.
        • The green model with orange cushions evokes summer and juicy fruits. Decorating in sand colors, living plants, painting with a landscape - that's all you need to create the effect of a beach holiday in your own apartment.
        • The snow-white openwork model seems weightless and airy. An excellent choice for those who like light, modern interiors.
            • The floor-standing model of a closed type is a shocking option. The red and white contrasting combination in conjunction with the original shape makes the chair the highlight of the room.
