A cozy and soft armchair with a high back and armrests allows you to relax after a hard day, to sit with maximum comfort with a magazine or a cup of tea. Such furnishings create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. Products can be placed almost anywhere - in the living room, in the kitchen, in the bedroom or in the children's room. With the right choice, they can fit into any interior and emphasize the good taste of the owner.

Advantages and disadvantages

"High" armchairs include furniture with a back height of more than 42 cm (the value of some models can reach 1 meter). Consider all the advantages of such items.

  1. Providing seating comfort. Products with a high back are most often oversized - they have the maximum depth and width. They will be convenient for people of any height and configuration. Deep models often have decorative pillows that can be placed under the back.
  2. excellent quality... Such products have a medium and high price segment, due to the use of high-quality materials in the production. The products are distinguished by their strength, reliability and durability - they will not loosen and will not creak during intensive use.
  3. A large assortment. People who decide to purchase a chair with a high back have a lot to choose from. Models of various shapes and designs are available for sale. They have a different color scheme, so you can choose a solution for your taste and interior style. Products are made in various styles - Provence, classic, minimalism, hi-tech, loft and many others.

The disadvantages of such models are minimal. These include high cost, size and considerable weight. Due to the large size, such products are difficult to place in a compact room, especially if you want to buy not 1 chair, but a set.

Varieties

Manufacturers offer a variety of high-back and armrest models. They differ:

  • sizes (narrow and wide variations);
  • forms (there are solutions with smooth and streamlined lines and more "rigorous" models);
  • types of armrests (in shape, there are oval, square or round, according to the variation of attachment - to the back and seat or lower base, as well as armrests are adjustable and non-adjustable).

On sale there are massive and original reclining chairs, products equipped with ottomans for legs, items with a hood or headrests. Recliner chairs are considered one of the most comfortable. They are equipped with a leg support and a mechanism that allows the traveler to adjust the backrest tilt at their own discretion. The support may also differ.

  • Versions on the crosspiece. Such products can be equipped with wheels that make it possible to move around the room without getting up. There are armchairs on a cross with support legs - in this case, their mobility is limited.
  • Furniture on supports. It is equipped with small legs, which are not visible behind the overall structure. Visually, it seems that such objects are on the floor. However, they have small supports, thanks to which the product is reliably protected from accidental soaking.
  • Skid models. This is a special design of the chairs. Their supporting part does not have legs - in this case, the furniture "keeps" on a frame that has a characteristic shape.
  • High-legged solutions. Such models are considered traditional.Supports can vary in height (15-40 cm) and configuration.
  • Armchairs with round, oval or square legs and platforms... Such products are equipped with one leg, which is fixed on the support.

Depending on the model, chairs with a high back and armrests can be height-adjustable.

What materials are they made of?

Various raw materials are used for the production of the armchair frame. Most of the models offered on the market are made of natural wood, metal, MDF or chipboard. Wooden bases are strong, reliable and lightweight. For the production of furniture bases, beech, oak, walnut are used. There are cheaper products made from coniferous trees.

However, it is recommended to refuse to purchase them - they are considered "weak", which is why they may not be able to cope with serious weight loads.

Lounge chairs made of metal are the strongest and most durable. Most often they are made from steel or various alloys (typical for design solutions). The disadvantage of metal furniture is its heavy weight, which can make it difficult to transport and move such items. Economy class lounges are made of MDF or chipboard. These are the most fragile and unreliable variations. And also there are combined structures that combine metal and wood, wood or chipboard and other combinations.

To make the chairs soft, padding is used. Can act as a filler holofiber, polyurethane foam or spring blocks. In the manufacture of expensive models, stuffing from natural latex or horsehair is used. Upholstery materials can also vary. Manufacturers often use furniture fabrics (jacquard, scotchguard, tapestry, matting, velor, flock, chenille, suede), natural or artificial leather.

How to choose?

Going to the store for an upholstered chair with a high back and armrests, it is important to make the "right" purchase. A reliable chair will not break and will retain its external perfection for a long time. There are several parameters that you should pay attention to.

  1. Convenience. Before buying a chair, you need to sit down - this is the only way to assess its comfort.
  2. Reliability and quality of performance. If the design provides for control mechanisms, they should not emit noise or "jam" during operation. Squeaky furniture is unlikely to last long. The absence of threads, crooked seams, traces of glue and various external defects will tell about the high quality of workmanship.
  3. Manufacturing material. It is better to refuse to buy products from fiberboard or MDF. The most reliable are metal and natural wood products. Upholstery should be practical, especially if there are children or pets in the house. Jacquard, tapestry, matting, scotchguard, microfiber, genuine leather are considered reliable upholstery materials.
  4. Price. You should not buy too cheap models - in order to reduce the cost, manufacturers often use low-quality materials in their manufacture.

Before purchasing, it is recommended to decide on the style and design of the high back chair. It should fit into the “general” stylistic concept of the room, harmonize in appearance and color palette with other furnishings and interior items.
