The word "couch" has long ceased to be associated with a hospital. Today the couch is a compact, comfortable armchair that can be put in an apartment and used for a good rest. Let's figure out the nuances of choosing this piece of furniture.

Peculiarities

In general, the functional purpose of the couch is the same as that of an ordinary chair, although there are several distinctive features. The couch chair always has soft comfortable upholstery, and its shape is more refined and sophisticated than that of a classic armchair., and therefore this piece of furniture fits perfectly into different styles of the room. The modern assortment of furniture is quite wide and varied, among the models you will surely come across an instance that is most suitable for the design of a particular room. At the same time, the couch chair has a wider range of functions: for example, it can be placed not only in the apartment, but also used as a dental or pedicure chair.

Small parameters save room space, which is very important for small apartments. As a rule, couch models are usually inexpensive. Such chairs can be installed not only in the living room, but also in the bedroom, in the kitchen, in the children's room or in the corridor.

Varieties

Chair-couches can be presented in different forms. The most popular are several options.

  • In the form of a comma. On this model, the seat curves sharply in the knee area. Refers to a comfortable look, but not too suitable for a person with vascular diseases of the legs, since in this case the limbs may become numb.

Various designs can be offered with cushions or head bolsters.

  • Straight. This model resembles a traditional couch. Sometimes a lumbar cushion is included. The disadvantages of the product include the backrest with a deflection angle of only slightly higher than 90 degrees.
  • Transformers. This version is located on a heavy base and makes it possible to adjust the back, seat, leg position. A very convenient and comfortable piece that can be made in a fancy shape and have armrests.
  • Semicircular. This chair is made on a frame, which is characterized by a rounded transition from the back to the support of the legs with an inward deflection. The knee area is angular and slightly raised, which increases comfort during rest.

Materials and colors

First of all, it should be said about the types of frame on which a modern couch chair can be made. There are a number of varieties.

  • Wooden. Wood is a durable and reliable raw material. Conifers are in particular demand in the production of furniture. During manufacturing, the product is impregnated with an antiseptic and varnished.
  • Wood boards. Pay attention to polished or lacquered MDF specimens, which are distinguished by a denser structure, and therefore, reliability. If the choice fell on fiberboard, chipboard, OSB, then keep in mind that these materials are quite vulnerable to high humidity and overheating.
  • Plywood. Samples from this raw material are made using the thickest plates possible. Not too reliable and durable, but quite a budget option.
  • Metal. Models with glossy coatings are especially common, which retain a beautiful surface appearance and protect the material from corrosive processes.
  • Plastic. PVC is mainly used in production. These are durable raw materials that can be purchased at an affordable price.

Most often, couches are beautiful, bright, glossy, but they need proper care and careful handling, since plastic is very vulnerable to scratches.

Next, consider the options for fillers that can be used in the manufacture of a couch chair.

  • Latex. It can be natural or artificial. Differs in breathability, hypoallergenicity, resistance to subsidence and durability.
  • Foam rubber. Well-ventilated, finely porous material that retains its shape perfectly, but is sensitive to moisture and dries for a long time.
  • Lighttech. It can adapt to a certain shape depending on the characteristics of the body of the resting person. Outwardly, it is not particularly aesthetic, but it has high performance characteristics.
  • Openform. Alternative to spring blocks. Withstands a high load, therefore it is suitable for resting people with a large body weight.
  • Twisted horsehair. It is a tough material that perfectly retains its shape, but it is not too easy to care for, as it requires periodic treatment with an antiseptic, and also has a high cost.

When choosing a couch chair for your home, pay attention to the upholstery, since both the appearance of the product and the comfort of the rider depend on this.

  • Natural fabrics. They are breathable materials that absorb moisture well. Among the shortcomings, there is a tendency to shrinkage and a tendency to fade quickly.
  • Artificial canvas. It has an attractive appearance and durability, but poor air permeability.
  • Combinations. Mixing natural fabrics and synthetics allows you to create materials that are almost devoid of the disadvantages of both options.
  • Leatherette. A popular specimen that looks pretty solid and is stable and easy to care for.
  • Leather. This is an expensive material that, although it looks prestigious, requires serious care. In addition, this option is vulnerable to mechanical damage.

Choose the color of the couch depending on the room where it will stand.

If this is an office, then choose neutral black or brown options; specimens in white and pastel colors are suitable for the bedroom; for the living room and kitchen, the color is selected taking into account the color scheme of the entire room; for a children's room, you can find a sample in cheerful bright shades - yellow, red, purple, green.

How to choose?

Pay attention to the angle of the backrest. The most convenient example has a back-to-seat tilt ratio of at least 120 degrees. Give preference to models with adjustable angle.

And also pay attention to the size of the product. Usually, the chair rises above the floor at the level of 60 cm, and the length varies from 2.2 to 2.5 m.For small rooms, choose miniature options with a length of about 1.5 m, which will also perfectly fit into the decor of a child's room.
