Demand for mosquito sprays and aerosols increases with the arrival of heat. Products of both Russian and foreign manufacturers are on sale. It is important to choose a drug that works quickly and does not cause side effects. It must retain its properties for several hours.

Composition and principle of operation

Aerosol sprays are among the most popular repellents. Among their advantages are:

  • ease of application to clothing and skin;
  • efficiency;
  • ease of use.

The product works for several hours, providing effective personal protection.

In 1974, the insecticidal component DEET was invented in a British laboratory. It began to be used for the manufacture of products that provide protection against mosquitoes and other blood-sucking insects. After 10 years, the component was officially registered, and the mass production of drugs for flying parasites annoying people began. The overwhelming majority of modern mosquito repellents are made on the basis of this substance. The difference lies solely in concentration.

The dosage of the insecticidal component of DEET, which does not exceed 35%, is considered harmless to humans. In products with a universal action, providing protection against many insects, the concentration of DEET is 30%. If mosquitoes with midges are present in moderation, 15% of the dosage is sufficient.

The substance is classified as hazard category 2. An overdose of an insecticidal substance can cause allergies, redness and irritation of the skin.

Spray

Spray is supplied from a cylinder using a conventional mechanical pump.

The main component of these drugs is a repellent. Substances with active action can be of both artificial and natural origin. The most popular chemical is diethyltoluamide, also called DEET. Of natural substances, mosquitoes are best repelled by:

  • essential oils of citronella;
  • geranium;
  • Carnation.

Sprays based on chemical components are highly effective, but not all of them are safe for the human body. Pregnant women, young children, people who have been diagnosed with respiratory diseases are at greatest risk when using such formulations.

The effect of natural preparations is short-lived (as long as the smell is felt), but they are harmless.

Sprays can be oil and water based, just like aerosols. The first type provides short-term protection. The advantage of such drugs is that they do not leave an invisible membrane on the skin. The epidermis "breathes" freely. Water-based mosquito repellent is easy to rinse off.

Oil preparations form a stable protective barrier. It does not fade even when exposed to strong moisture, such as rain.

Consider your general health and age when choosing an insect repellant. If symptoms of malaise (intoxication) appear, rinse the spray or aerosol applied with water. A high-quality mosquito repellent should not affect your well-being, provoke side effects. This is possible only with individual intolerance.

Spray can

Spraying of the aerosol is achieved by increasing the pressure in the container.

With the help of an aerosol, clothes are treated. Its effect lasts from 12 hours to 30 days, provided that things are stored in an airtight plastic bag. Clothes should be hung outside and sprayed to make them slightly damp. Wait until dry and apply as directed.

In addition to clothing with aerosol agents, it is permissible to treat open parts of the body, awnings, and fabric surfaces. When applying the drug, a distance of about 15 cm must be observed. Spray the aerosol outdoors or indoors with good ventilation. Be sure to rinse off the product when you get home from a walk.
