Marble is a natural material used to decorate a wide variety of surfaces. Since ancient times, it has become a popular material for creating various decor in the interior. The appearance of the marble product is filled with majesty and extraordinary beauty. Marble is used not only for cladding the facades of buildings, but also for decorating a set, for example, a fireplace.

Peculiarities

The decorative look of the fireplace can play a major role in creating a room interior. The fireplace is used not only as a decoration, but also as a source of heat. In this case, you need a special approach to the choice of material from which the oven will be made. Marble is an excellent option.

Untreated natural marble is practically indistinguishable from other fossil materials. In the processed state, the marble product acquires a unique pattern and chic colors. Marble fireplaces can differ significantly, because the design elements are very diverse.

Experts recommend using marble to decorate the fireplace due to its natural characteristics.

  • Environmentally friendly material that does not harm health. Even when exposed to open flames, it does not emit toxic substances.
  • High strength of the product, allowing it to withstand heavy loads.
  • Resistant to high humidity.
  • Fire resistance of the material. When exposed to open fire, marbled surfaces remain protected.
  • Unlimited service life (about 100-150 years). Replacement of the facing material occurs only if the appearance of the product fades or acquires an unnatural shade.

Apart from all the positive characteristics, marble also has negative aspects. The extraction and processing of stone is carried out for a rather long time, therefore, the cost price of a marble product will be high.

It is also necessary to take into account the fact that the marble structure will weigh about 200 kg, and not all rooms can withstand such a load.

Thanks to the existing methods of facing a fireplace with marble, specialists can develop unique images when decorating. The volume and structure of the marble stone can be emphasized by grinding. The aging effect brings the appearance of the oven closer to ancient times. The polishing of the stone enhances the natural qualities of the marble, as well as the reflection of the blazing fire.

Design

Marble fireplaces have several variations of facing stone.

Marble slabs

Marble for finishing works can be natural and artificial. The first variety is mined in the bowels of the Earth and is of natural origin. Due to the high cost of production, not everyone can use natural marble slabs for interior decoration and headset decor.

Artificial slabs are a combination of acrylic and mineral filler. Artificial stones are cheaper and have a huge range of products, in contrast to natural rocks. But such materials are inferior in durability to natural stones.

There is a possibility of a combination of natural and artificial stone. In this case, artificial materials are used as decorative elements, and the base of the surface is made of natural rocks.

Installation of marble tiles is carried out only on a finished fireplace surface made of refractory stone.

Marble slabs are: smooth, structured, matte, glossy, with various inserts.

To prevent soot and soot from settling on the marble surface, it is better to use glossy surfaces that are resistant to the settling of such contaminants.

Finished marble portals

The construction market provides the opportunity to revet the fireplace with a ready-made portal, which greatly simplifies the installation.

This variation of the marble product is the cheapest in contrast to natural stone. The composition of artificial marble is a combination of marble or granite chips, sand, paint products and polyester resin. This type of marble product is most in demand by consumers for decorating a fireplace, because in terms of its qualities it practically does not differ from marble slabs.

Advantages of marble portals:

  • high strength of the material;
  • environmentally friendly product;
  • resistance to high temperatures.

      Ready-made designs have a wide variety:

      • polished surface with clear lines;
      • rough coating with various imitations;
      • fireplaces with columns and figures;
      • constructions with stucco molding.

      Marble portals are decorated with carvings and bas-reliefs. They are in perfect harmony with ceramics, glass, bronze. An unusual look is obtained in combination with wood, metal and plaster inserts.

      If the room does not allow the installation of a full-fledged fireplace, then it is better to install electric fireplaces or screens that can be easily mounted into ready-made marble portals.

      The choice of one or another method of decorating a fireplace depends on the functioning of the structure. If the stove is designed to heat a room, it is necessary that the base of the system be made of special materials: foam concrete, aerated concrete, fire-resistant bricks. Experts recommend installing corner fireplaces in small rooms, and wall stoves located in the central wall can be installed in spacious rooms.

      The decoration of fireplaces can only be done from the outside, otherwise the marble can be modified under the influence of an open flame.

      Color palette

      Among the most popular varieties of marble fireplaces, the following color variations are distinguished.

      • Grey colour, which has a huge range of colors. The blotches can be both small and large. The surface has various lines and spots of pure white color.
      • White color. A stone of white shades has a characteristic feature, because when sunlight hits, the shade of the material changes. Bright light contributes to the iridescence of shades: yellow, pink and gray. White marble is in perfect harmony with pink and brown marble mosaics.
      • Multi-colored variation is a mixture of different color shades. Modern interior styles allow you to use bright shades: red, blue, pink, light green.

      Beautiful examples in the interior

      A fireplace made of marble will look great in many modern interior styles.

      Classic

      Most designers give their preference to classic fireplaces. After all, the origin of such structures was still in the days of knights and kings, and to this day they have not lost their attractiveness. Basically, classic style fireplaces are installed in the wall, so only the upper area of the structure can be decorated. Ready-made portals are made of various materials, and bas-reliefs and carved panels are used as decoration. Candlesticks, figurines, framed photos are placed on the mantelpiece.

      French manners

      A fireplace in this design is associated with nobility and wealth. Rococo and Baroque styles offer the installation of a U-shaped fireplace.The fireplace is decorated with carvings with additional smooth transitions, and in the center there is an image in the form of a flower, a shell, a crown. Provence recommends installing a light-colored fireplace with a rough surface.

      Country

      This design looks comfortable and natural, especially in country houses and cottages. For this image, ready-made designs (portals) of fireplaces are used. The portals are small in size and mainly in the shape of the letter D. Country-style fireplaces should additionally add tranquility and comfort to the room, therefore, calm light shades with a slight roughness are taken for their cladding. The fireplace is decorated with raw pieces of marble. For a rustic look, rough, raw elements are used.

      High tech

      The modern style of the interior allows the use of marble as a cladding for the fireplace. After all, marble goes well with metal and glass coatings and decorative elements. Also marble stone enhances the play of flame. Many believe that high-tech style is faceless cold structures, but it is they who often become refined and sublime decorative elements. This style has a huge assortment of geometric shapes.

      Art Deco

      This image combines the austere forms of marble and materials from leather, glass and wood. The majestic image of the fireplace is associated with luxury and prosperity, thereby attracting everyone's attention. The main decoration for the fireplace is a mirror framed by the sun's rays. To decorate the fireplace, decorative elements such as precious stones, silver, wood species, reptile skin, ivory are used.

      The color palette is presented in black and olive shadesthat can be combined with each other. It is possible to use a brown shade, which is diluted with shades of ivory, gilding.

      Modern

      The Art Nouveau style offers fireplaces of a rectangular or semi-oval shape, thanks to which they fit perfectly into any modern image, emphasizing the whole style favorably. A distinctive feature of such stoves is that straight lines and corners are inappropriate here, in this case, preference is given to ornaments of vegetation and flowers. Ready-made portals are made in the shape of the letter P and D. This style requires unity between architecture, typeface and interior design. The Art Nouveau fireplace is harmoniously combined with strict dark frames and a plasma TV.
