In the 60s of the last century, panel housing was massively built in the Soviet Union. Trying to fulfill the five-year plan, they saved both on building materials and on footage. But people were happy, because it was their own living space, not a communal apartment.

Any room can be made cozy, including a small one. To do this, you need to choose the style in which the room and the corresponding furniture will be renovated. Today we will focus on the design of "Khrushchev" buildings.

Features of the layout

Since the houses were erected as temporary housing, their operational period was only twenty-five years. The height of the ceilings in the houses of the first series was about 2.5 m, there were walk-through rooms and a combined bathroom.

In the updated series, the service life of the houses has been doubled. But the premises remained unchanged in size, the issue of sound insulation was not resolved either. Although it is worth noting that the height of the ceilings in some houses reached 2.7 m. High ceilings were found mainly in block-type houses.

In the houses of the Khrushchev era, there were four apartments on one floor, in total there were either four or five floors. The elevator, of course, was not provided, since the housing was temporary, and the installation of the elevator is an additional expense. The area of the kitchen in "Khrushchev" in all series is about six square meters. In such a kitchen, it is problematic to put large household appliances and organize a dining area. Therefore, the refrigerator was often placed in the living room, and the household had lunch and dinner there.

By the way, the living room area in a 1-room apartment is 18 sq. m. There is a storage room and a balcony. The total area of the apartment is 32 sq. m. For two-room apartments, it varies from 30 to 45 square meters. m, and for three-room apartments it is 55 sq. m. Bedrooms, like children, are small, on average about 7 square meters. m.

Apartments, rooms in which are located at the end, have increased comfort. With regards to redevelopment, such a room is the easiest to repair. It is possible to carry out repairs with the construction of an additional partition. Thanks to this, one large room can be divided into two parts.

Zoning

It would seem that what can be done from one room? In addition to sleeping space, some people also want to organize a recreation area, while someone wants to put furniture and at the same time the room should remain spacious. In this case, a special design technique comes to the rescue - zoning.

Zoning allows you to visually highlight a wall or corner using wallpaper. And if the size of the room allows, then partitions can also be erected, thus separating part of the room. There are the following types of partitions.

Screen

China is considered the birthplace of the screen, it is in this country that it has been popular for more than one century. This is not just an interior detail, but also an easy-to-install partition that can separate the bed from the main room. The screen fits any design and interior, it can also be installed in a city apartment.

The small room in which the screen is installed can be divided into a work area and a recreation area. Thanks to this decision, a person leading a nocturnal lifestyle will not interfere with vacationing households. The screen is easy to assemble, which means that it can be installed only at the right time. And the rest of the time, the room will remain spacious.

The screen goes well with large furniture. If there are no curtains in the room, then it is able to protect the room from sunlight, often, such a need appears in the summer season.

In the interior, folding, metal screens, screens and shelves are most often found. The first are classics, they are also called folding - they have the shape of an accordion. The accordion is formed thanks to three doors, hence the name. When folded, the screen does not take up much space.

This option is made of wood, plastic or glass. But remember that in families with small children, glass screens are unsafe and are more likely to get cuts and abrasions.

The metal screen is a forged openwork product. Experts do not recommend it for small-sized Khrushchevs. For small rooms, it is more correct to install shelving screens. They not only zone the room, but also create another place for storing things.

The remaining option - the screen, unfortunately, does not fold. But since it is made of plastic, there should be no difficulties in transportation and movement. By the way, some models are equipped with a roller base - castors.

Plastic is able to take any shape, so these screens are suitable for any style and interior, including modern trends, and this material is cheaper in cost. The tree is recommended for classic design and for eco-style rooms. But remember that the tree needs proper care.

Curtains and curtains

When placing a sleeping area in the living room, it is very important to zoning the room. For this purpose, curtains or curtains are most often used. Curtains add airiness to the interior, but at the same time they are not able to protect the sleeping area, create an intimate atmosphere. Blackout curtains perfectly zone the room, but at the same time it is very important to choose a color scheme that suits the interior.

Often, such a partition separates a sleeping place; for this, a frame or ceiling curtain is mounted in the room. By the way, curtains or tulle can be easily removed and washed.

Curtain zoning has its own classification. It can be complete or partial. In the first option, the room is separated along the entire length or width, and in the second, only the necessary part of the interior, including the bed, is separated. With full, you can use curtains, and with partial, even products that resemble threads will do.

For decorative purposes, beads are strung on the threads; it looks elegant in any room. By the way, curtains in the form of threads can be used to separate the bedroom from the crib. The child will always be supervised, but at the same time the parents will have their own corner.

The second type is temporary or permanent zoning. Temporary zoning is used for a specific period. For example, during a business trip or vacation of a relative, part of the room can be zoned.

And the classification is completed by functional or decorative zoning. Decorative zoning is used when decorating rooms in the style of loft, shabby-sheck, Provence. Some designers use this technique when implementing projects in vintage, country and rustic styles. In this case, the curtains are used to highlight the interior opening, and as doors for cabinets.

Curtains are one of the most democratic zoning methods. They do not take up much space and are easy to move, remove and replace. But I am especially glad that you can choose curtains for any interior, the choice in stores is simply huge. And if you can't find a suitable option, you can always sew the curtains with your own hands.

Of modern options, roller blinds stand out, somewhat reminiscent of roller blinds. Only the movement does not occur vertically, but horizontally.Such structures separate not only the bedroom from the living room, but also the dressing room from the main room.

The main feature of modern options is that they are covered with an invisible layer of polyvinyl chloride. This type of plastic is capable of repelling water and dust, which means that blinds are easy to care for and do not need to be washed. Japanese curtains have similar characteristics. By the way, blinds are also used for zoning a room. When assembled, they do not take up much space and can always be moved aside, thus making the room free and spacious.

When zoning with curtains, it is very important to adhere to the designer's advice. The curtains must necessarily touch the floor, if you use products of short length, then the zoning effect cannot be achieved, since the lower part of the room will always be in sight.

Experts recommend using both tulle and blackout curtains together. This combination will give airiness during the day, provided that the curtains are pulled back, and at night, an intimate atmosphere when the curtains return to their original position.

Plasterboard partitions

In some rooms, the balcony block is purposefully dismantled in order to increase the space. The balcony is glazed, sheathed and insulated. If a large loggia is used, then a sleeping place or office is organized on it.

If the room does not have a balcony, then you can build a plasterboard partition. The main feature of this type of partitions is the capital structure, if screens and curtains are easily removed, then a drywall wall is erected indefinitely.

Drywall is a cheap building material that is easy to maintain. It can be cut and bent, the latter will be required when creating an arched structure. It has good sound absorbing properties. Wallpaper can be pasted on drywall, it can be painted in the desired color.

Plasterboard construction is a creative process. The structure can be equipped with a niche, ledge, additional storage space, sheathed with wood, install spotlights. Remember that there is a moisture-resistant drywall, as a rule, the bathroom in the "Khrushchev" is combined, with the use of modern building materials, you can separate the bathroom and toilet.

Shelves and cabinets

Not all people want to get involved with repairs. It takes a lot of time, effort and money to repair. As the people joke, the repair never ends, after the realization of one dream, another always appears. After a hard day at work, I want to come home, relax and just live for my own pleasure, without thinking about anything.

Designers recommend such people to pay attention to racks and cabinets. For some reason, it is generally accepted that the cabinet must necessarily stand near the wall.

Thus sideboards, walls and libraries were installed. But modern lightweight structures also look harmonious in the central part of the room, while dividing one part of the room from another.

It is not necessary to use pass-through racks, if necessary, the rear of the cabinet can be replaced with a mirror. It's no secret that the mirror visually enlarges the space, and this is very important in small-sized Khrushchevs.

Podiums

This zoning option is suitable for "Khrushchev" houses with high ceilings. Owners of premises with standard ceilings need to know that the podium will "steal" up to 30 cm. Therefore, such zoning should be used in extreme cases. On the catwalks, a living room, dining or work area is placed.

Provided that the ceiling is low, they organize a sleeping area, because it is usually used only at night, unlike dining rooms and offices, which are in demand in the daytime, drawers can be mounted on the podium, and this is additional storage space. If you use a multi-tiered podium, then there will be two or even three times more boxes.

And the multi-tiered podium in this case will act like a staircase. By the way, such a design solution does not take up much space, unlike cabinets and shelves.

Sliding partitions

Sliding partitions by the principle of their work resemble sliding wardrobes. In this case, you can use both dense materials that do not allow daylight to pass through, and light, translucent ones.

When open, sliding partitions do not take up much space, therefore, it is advisable to push them aside in the daytime. When implementing the Japanese style, it is this option that is used; it is also suitable for rooms furnished in minimalism.

It would seem that what can be organized in a standard room of twenty square meters? Even a bachelor in such a room can be cramped, not to mention a married couple with small children. But our people, accustomed to Spartan conditions, found a way out of this situation as well.

Experts recommend using a warm corner for cribs that has natural light. In the future, this nook can be expanded, but in the first years of a baby's life, this will be enough. While children are small, they need an eye and an eye, which means that at the initial stage, the use of curtains is justified for partitions, later they are replaced with curtains or a drywall structure.

It is very important at the stage of growing up to provide the child with personal space, the podium perfectly copes with this task. The child visually understands which corner is his property; in addition, a play area can be organized on the podium.

By the way, if your financial situation does not allow you to buy modern building materials, you can always use wallpaper or paint. Bright colors are suitable for a children's corner, but it is important that they are combined with the main room.

Room type

Domestic design specialists prefer to decorate rooms with two windows. In such premises, as they say, there is a place where design ideas can unfold. In addition, the "unnecessary" window can always be repaired. But first things first, so the rooms in "Khrushchevs" are of the following types.

Checkpoint

This is a big headache for all owners of square meters in "Khrushchev". Since the living room often has a through passage to the bedroom and vice versa. Many, wanting to get rid of the passage, re-plan the premises, erect or demolish walls.

But remember that you will need permission to demolish the walls. Otherwise, there is a high probability of damage to the load-bearing walls, which will lead to irreversible consequences. In addition, it is not bad to get permission from neighbors, because the repair can be delayed indefinitely.

Corner

Most often, a corner room is found in a one-room apartment. It has two windows facing opposite sides, so that this room can be divided into at least two equal parts. In one, organize a bedroom or a nursery, and give the second part as a living room.

To do this, it is not necessary to build a brick wall; you can use the zoning methods described earlier. If there is a clear desire to separate one room from another, then a metal frame should be erected and sheathed with sheets of drywall.

Subtleties of planning

When creating a design project, it is very important to take into account the subtleties of the layout. A large apartment differs from small-sized premises not only in size, but also in structural features, the presence of a balcony or its absence. For example, two-room apartments are called "trailers" because of the windows opening to different sides of the house and for the adjacent layout. This should be taken into account in a future project.

Probably, no one will argue with the fact that apartments differ from each other, whose area is 42 and 58 square meters. m. The more spacious the room, the more items can be placed, but in small rooms everything should be compact.Accordingly, the design can be for an apartment.

One-room

Often the size of the "odnushka" is 31 square meters. m. And the area of her only room is 18 square meters. m. "Odnushka" is transformed not only by the zoning of the room, but also by using modular furniture and special techniques for the visual expansion of the room.

Two-room

A two-room apartment offers many more design options. Usually one of the rooms becomes a nursery or a bedroom, and the second is set aside for the living room.

Three-room

Judging by the statistics, three-ruble notes are most often subject to major repairs. The space expands due to the dismantling of the balcony block, in addition, 3 rooms can be combined or, conversely, by erecting a metal frame and sheathing it with plasterboard, divide one of the rooms into two parts.

Four-room

The design of a four-room apartment as a whole differs little from the usual layout, except for one point - a small area of each room. But here you can do without the use of massive partitions and zoning principles - a separate room will be allocated for each functional room.

Colour

The color scheme of the room can influence the mood of not only household members, but also guests. Therefore, it is very important to approach this issue carefully, to choose the color of wallpaper or paint not momentarily, but consciously.

Colors not only create a mood, but also visually expand or, conversely, they narrow the space. And some variants of wallpaper pattern can even have a negative effect on the psyche, this is especially important to take into account when decorating a children's or teenage room.

By the way, experts advise changing the wallpaper or the color of the walls in the room every six years, this has a positive effect on the general mood, there is a certain kind of shake-up that is necessary for any body. Remember that it is not recommended to decorate the bedroom, living room and kitchen in the same style. It is better to show imagination, since the monotony will get bored very quickly, which means that you will have to re-glue or repaint the rooms in a different color. And this is an additional waste of both finance and time.

If the room is dark and its windows face north, it is very important to use light shades in the design. Give preference to white and yellow. And in a bright room, as a rule, there are no restrictions.

Lighting

Correctly selected lighting can not only highlight the main points in the interior, zone the room, but also not harm human health. It's no secret that vision can be planted in dim light and burn out the retina in bright light. For the same reason, doctors do not advise looking at the bright sun and welding without special devices.

Three types of lighting can be organized in the room - general, combined and local. General lighting is used in most rooms, while the chandelier is located strictly in the center of the room, its light is scattered evenly over the entire area.

General lighting is great for square rooms and not quite rectangular rooms. In this case, and with a certain zoning, additional local lighting is used. These can be wall lights, sconces, floor lamps or table lamps.

Well, combined lighting has absorbed both general and local lighting. By the way, there is also emergency lighting, it is often used in private houses, but it will not be superfluous for “Khrushchevs” either. When the light is turned off, the lamps that run on batteries are turned on, which means that you can forget about the candles.

There are also methods of lighting, among them diffused, indirect, directional and mixed light stands out. When it comes to diffused light, an incandescent lamp comes to mind, it spreads the light around the room 360 degrees.Directional light is capable of illuminating only a specific area. Not direct light - it is light that bounces off a wall, ceiling, mirror, or any other surface.

The mixed version is most suitable for large rooms, since one chandelier is not able to illuminate the entire room. And when zoning, you can't do without additional light. For example, you can hang lamps by the bed, and put a desk lamp on the computer table.

Decorative elements

Decor is considered to be the final detail of the interior. Even if a budget project is being implemented, designers will definitely use various vases, shelves, figurines to give exclusivity.

Part of the decor is not only furniture, curtains, mirrors and carpets, but also indoor plants, decoration materials and paintings. It is very important to adhere to a certain style, but avoid museum resemblance. Interior items should not only decorate the room, but also be used for their intended purpose. So, for example, plates and a tea set can be put on the table, and look in the mirror before going to work.

Modern design

Remember, no matter how old the house was built during the reign of Khrushchev, the premises can always be repaired. And not only cosmetically, but also thoroughly. If you use modern building materials, then the old premises can hardly be recognized.

Take, for example, a bathroom, in "Khrushchev" it is usually combined. But if you zone the room with a partition or curtains, the bathroom will visually change.

Let's take a closer look at the design of other rooms.

Kitchens

Kitchens in "Khrushchevs" are small in size, on average, its area is equal to six square meters. The owners of such premises have to use every centimeter in the literal sense of the word.

Basic planning guidelines:

  • Any kitchen starts with a refrigerator. In our case, it must be placed in the corner, and it is desirable that it be high, but not wide. Wide specimens reduce space when the door is opened.
  • When installing a washing machine in the kitchen, it is important to build on the color scheme of the furniture. The washing machine must be built into the kitchen set, making it an integral part. If the washing machine stands alone, then, besides the fact that it will take up free space, it will not fit into the main interior.
  • The gas stove and oven are best selected from the built-in options. They are perfectly mounted in a kitchen set and complement it. But remember that the connection must be carried out by a specialist, otherwise there is a high probability of gas leakage, and this can lead to irreversible consequences. Do not forget about the hood, thanks to which the smells will not linger in the room for a long time.
  • A kitchen set with a small size should be roomy. You need to choose such models that contain inline elements. The sink is necessarily mounted in the headset, a place for the trash can is organized under it, and the sewerage system is hidden in this cabinet.
  • By replacing the old wooden window sill with a solid stone work surface, you can create an additional cooking area. And under the windowsill, experts recommend installing a small cabinet with sliding drawers where you can store cutlery or food.
  • If you use a stand for placing the microwave, then in this case the countertop of the kitchen set will be free, since the microwave will rise above it. This surface can be used as a working area.
  • Spotlights are mounted for additional lighting. First of all, they are installed in the working area, and for decoration, the kitchen set is often highlighted along the entire perimeter.
  • Unfortunately, you won't be able to put a large dining table in a small kitchen, but alternatively, you can use a pull-out bar counter. Behind it, two people can easily accommodate, and this is more than enough if the family is small.
  • Very rarely in the kitchen in "Khrushchevs" a U-shaped layout is used. As a rule, lonely people resort to this design method, because the furniture will "eat" most of the room and two people in the same kitchen will be cramped. But with such a layout, everything will be at hand - the sink, the work surface, and the refrigerator. You don't have to do any unnecessary gestures.
  • When using a corner layout, more space appears, but at the same time you need to choose the right refrigerator and kitchen set. The furniture may have to be made to order.
  • Parallel and one-row layouts are most often organized in large kitchens. With the parallel arrangement of furniture and household appliances, free space appears, which is used for movement. Well, and, accordingly, when planning in one row, the free space doubles. By the way, if you have permission to partially dismantle the walls, then this option can be implemented in the "Khrushchev".
  • It is not advisable to use soiled colors in the kitchen - white and black. But it must be remembered that light shades can visually expand the space, and this is very important in small rooms. And the furniture is mainly made in light colors.
  • If you use dark shades, then you need to understand that visually the kitchen will decrease, in order to avoid this, designers recommend additional lighting and the use of reflective surfaces - these are mirrors and glossy finishing materials.
  • If the kitchen windows face the north side, experts advise using warm shades. Furniture and building materials made in peach or pistachio color will fill the room with warmth and contribute to creating a good mood.
  • But if you want to experiment, then you can combine different shades. For example, blue goes well with yellow, and white goes well with red. It is important to follow the unwritten set of rules. Firstly, building materials must be of neutral or light shades, and secondly, it is important to create a single space using furniture, electronics and decor. And, of course, it is necessary to take into account the fact that bright elements distract the attention of not only household members, but also guests, which means that they should focus on something necessary. In particular, on kitchen units or furniture.
  • The walls in the kitchen are pasted over with light wallpaper or painted with light paint. At the same time, the apron can be distinguished using tiles or a special mosaic made of polyvinyl chloride. It is important that the wallpaper is waterproof and washable, the paint does not absorb odors, and the apron is easy to clean.
  • In no case should you use a suspended ceiling, it will reduce the space, since a frame is being erected for its installation. In order not to whitewash the ceiling every year, experts recommend installing a tension option. It is easy to care for and does not reduce the height of the room much. And if you install not a matte, but a glossy ceiling, it contributes to the visual expansion of the space.
  • The kitchen floor can be made of laminate or tile. These building materials will work for many styles, but unfortunately they will reduce the height a little. By the way, if you use a laminate of a higher wear resistance class, then you can lay a heating system under it - a warm floor.
  • The door in the kitchen can be dismantled altogether, in which case it will not take up space. Alternatively, you can make the opening arched or use curtains for zoning the room. But if there is a desire to preserve the door, then the designers advise using a door leaf with glass inserts.
  • As a rule, curtains are hung in the kitchen, you can also hang curtains, but it is important that they are not dense and dark. They protect from the sun and blinds; in recent years, roll-up options are gaining popularity.

They are easily mounted directly into plastic windows, while, depending on the density of the material, the necessary shading is selected. It can be either dense, in which case the sun's rays will not enter the room, or diffused. For the kitchen, it is recommended to use diffused shading.

Bedrooms

The bedroom in "Khrushchev" has the same dimensions as the kitchen - an average of about eight square meters. But at the same time, it is necessary to put a bed, a wardrobe in it, and organize a recreation area. In past years, certain difficulties arose with this, but modern models are so compact that they are also suitable for small-sized premises.

First of all, it is worth talking about the bed, today in furniture stores you can easily find a bed built into the closet. The bed-wardrobe-transformer is assembled in the daytime, there is a free space that can be used for sports or organize a place for children's games. And at night, the wardrobe is transformed into a bed, and a fragile girl can also perform this procedure, since modern fittings are used.

Alternatively, a transforming sofa, which is assembled in a similar way in the daytime, is also suitable. By the way, there is often a niche under the sofa that can be used to store things, including bedding.

There are design techniques that can visually enlarge the space. First of all, I would like to note the mirror, if it is mounted to the full height of the wardrobe door, then the room will be transformed. Photo wallpapers and modern 3D volumetric wallpapers have a similar effect. Additionally, glossy stretch ceilings and laminate with a glossy surface are capable of reflecting light.

If the bedroom has a balcony, then you can dismantle the balcony block, with permission, to demolish part of the wall. This will add a few square meters, all that remains is to insulate the balcony and put a cabinet on it or organize a work area.

Above the bed, from the point of view of economy, it would be more correct to mount a modular wall, it is very important that it be the full height and width of the wall. The maximum effect is achieved if it does not have handles and is made in light pastel colors.

When choosing styles, it is necessary to build on the dimensions of the room. For example, minimalism means small furniture, correct symmetry and the absence of unnecessary details. At the same time, the room seems to be free. By adding the latest building materials, unusual drawings and suitable furniture to the interior, you can modernize the design of the bedroom.

Color scheme is an important interior detail. Since the bedroom is small, design experts do not recommend using more than three colors.

At the same time, it is very important that they are pastel shades:

  • White takes a special place. Such an airy bedroom will appeal to both newlyweds and people who have been married for more than twenty years. A homely atmosphere can be embellished with a large pile carpet and photographs from the family archive.
  • A bedroom in black will not darken the atmosphere if you add reflective elements to the interior - mirrors, glossy surfaces, gold or chrome inserts. Such a solution can even visually expand the space, and modern electronics made of black plastic will perfectly fit into the environment.
  • The gray bedroom fits harmoniously into most styles. It is pleasant to spend time in such a room, since this color is calm. The beige color has a similar effect, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere.
  • Brown, blue and green are popular among the people due to their excellent combination with other colors, including white and pink. By the way, a pink bedroom is suitable for a girl, this color adds romance to the room.

Particular attention should be paid to the lighting in the bedroom. Many people read or use modern gadgets before going to bed, so wall lamps or lamps on the bedside tables must be installed on the wall behind the headboard. But at the same time, the main lighting is still the central chandelier, corresponding to the interior.

A special place in the bedroom is occupied by diode lighting, with its help you can decorate the ceiling, and for children's bedrooms it is recommended to create a "starry sky". A little advice: if a child cannot fall asleep for a long time, advise him to count the stars, as a rule, by counting to a hundred, the baby falls asleep.

Starting from the small size of the bedroom in the "Khrushchev", remember that there should be few things in the interior. Pillows, a few books in a conspicuous place, a TV remote control or other electronic equipment and a telephone are enough. And to create comfort, a warm carpet is laid on the floor, curtains from natural materials are hung.

Corridor

The corridor has an even smaller usable area, so it is very important to use building materials that visually expand the room. This is a glossy ceiling, a lacquered floor, and a mirror. Remember that light-colored wallpapers do not diminish the space as dark ones do.

The laminate in the corridor must be moisture resistant, with a high wear resistance class. If you use a cheap option, then in a short time the laminate will become unusable, additional repairs will be required. If the ceilings are low, experts recommend using wallpaper with a vertical stripe, and for expansion along the length - with a horizontal one.

Try to avoid wallpaper with a large pattern, in small corridors, they focus on themselves, thereby emphasizing the size of the room.

It is also necessary to think about lighting, if the corridor is dark, then it resembles a closet. To improve the situation, spotlights or wall lamps are suitable, but central lighting also plays an important role.

By the way, stucco molding and suspended ceilings significantly reduce the size of the room, in this regard, they must be abandoned. But if wallpaper or paint is used on the ceiling, then, on the contrary, you can visually increase the height of the space.

For small corridors, minimalism is the best design style. It is enough to hang a shelf for clothes, organize a place for storing shoes. It is advisable to put seasonal clothes in a separate closet. Remember that a built-in wardrobe is considered an ideal option for "Khrushchev", there is no back wall in such a design, which means that additional centimeters appear that can be used for their intended purpose.

Studios

Studio apartments are popular, due to the fact that for little money you can buy comfortable housing for a small family. Many owners of square meters in "Khrushchevs" followed the same path. They demolished part of the wall and, thus, a studio kitchen turned out.

The option of combining a corridor with a small room is not excluded, and if there is also a balcony, then the usable area becomes larger. But remember that to demolish the walls, you must have permission from the supervisory authority.

When designing a studio, you need to take into account the holistic perception of the room., which means that one color scheme should be used. Some areas of the room can be zoned with wallpaper, screens or curtains. The transparent and translucent partition looks great. The partition can also be made from the bar counter, it is very convenient to use it to transfer ready-made dishes to guests, and the rest of the time just dine behind it.

In the zoning of the room, a special role is played by the floor, for example, in studios it is recommended to lay tiles in the kitchen, and in the living room a laminate or parquet board. Modern methods of decorating the joints of two different building materials make the joint almost invisible.

The design option for the kitchen has already been described earlier, and as for the living room, it must necessarily have a recreation area, which includes electronics and upholstered furniture. Remember that corner furniture takes up less space, if you put the sofa in the center of the room, then it will focus on itself, while the free space will decrease.

The convertible sofa is perfect for small living rooms, and if guests want to stay overnight, this sofa easily converts into a double bed. Modern household appliances and electronics are small in size, for example, the TV is easily installed on the wall, which means that it does not need a cabinet. All wiring can be removed under a plasterboard-lined metal frame. In the same way, you can make ledges and niches for storing things.

In the case of combining a bedroom and a nursery, the zoning and design options were considered earlier, so we will not dwell on this and will not repeat ourselves. Unfortunately, often the wall is load-bearing, which means that it cannot be demolished. In this regard, it is possible to recommend dismantling the door leaf, and making the resulting opening of an arched type.

Expert advice

Consider the most common design tips that are recommended to use when decorating rooms in the "Khrushchev":

  • Demolition of walls. This solution is suitable for single people and newlyweds who want to make a modern studio apartment out of their home. The combined space looks more spacious, single elderly people will be able to move freely from kitchen to bedroom and vice versa.
  • Dismantling the balcony block. Provided that the balcony is insulated and glazed, a workplace can be organized on this territory. To do this, just put a table and a laptop. And women can organize their own corner by equipping it with a dressing table. If the family has small children, then by installing a desk on the balcony, you can free the main room. In addition, natural light prevails on the balcony, which means that it will be possible to save on electricity.
  • The use of folding furniture. Modular furniture and transforming beds are most often installed in small rooms, they are usually used at night, and the rest are assembled without taking up useful space.
  • Combining a living room with a dining area. Unfortunately, it is physically impossible to put a table in the kitchen, for this you will have to abandon household appliances and a kitchen set. In this regard, designers recommend moving the dining area to the living room. All family members and guests can gather at a large table.
  • Bedroom design. Before buying a bed, it is important to take into account the dimensions of the room: if you buy a large bed, then there will be no room for movement. It is advisable to make a plan diagram and mark all dimensions on it.
  • Ergonomics. Small rooms do not tolerate unnecessary things, all furniture and decor should take their places. Lighting, colors, mirrors and wallpaper can visually expand a small room. Cope with this task and new items in the construction market - modern lacquered laminate and glossy stretch ceilings.

Common mistakes

The wrong choice of color design most often spoils the impression of the room. Even if the room is filled with the latest technology, expensive building materials are used, the desired effect is not obtained. There is no need to be afraid to combine colors, a certain tone is set by the colors of the furniture and decor.A harmonious, special interior is obtained only with a combination of different shades, otherwise the room looks boring.

And some people, on the contrary, get too zealous when they buy beautiful things. It is necessary to take into account the fact that the furniture in the "Khrushchev" should be used for its intended purpose, if you buy a museum piece, then it will take up space that is already lacking.

Before buying, for example, an armchair or chair, you must definitely sit on it, if it is comfortable furniture and it is necessary for the room, you can buy it, otherwise you must refuse to buy. After all, the furniture will stand in the room for more than one year.

Incorrect lighting is another common mistake. Moreover, this applies to rooms with insufficient lighting, and with its overabundance. And often there are no lamps at all in the place where they are needed, for example, in the bedside area. Remember that in modern luminaires you can adjust the light intensity, which means that they can be located in all zones and corners.

The furniture must definitely match the style of the room, otherwise it will stand out against the main background. In this case, it is very important to use folding furniture, it takes up less space. Unfortunately, art objects will have to be abandoned, in small rooms large sculptures or paintings will look defiant. Moreover, antiques or paintings do not always match the style.

Interior style

The most commonly used styles when decorating a Khrushchev apartment:

  • First of all, of course, we will focus on minimalism... When decorating in a minimalist style, only the necessary furniture is selected, devoid of sophisticated design, massive decorative elements are excluded. The color scheme is used only neutral, while the option of zoning in a different color is allowed. Wallpaper with bright patterns is excluded, the ceiling can either be painted or whitewashed.

The floor can be made from any building material, but it is important that it harmoniously matches the color of the walls. Minimalism does not allow the use of massive chandeliers; lighting should be spot-on.

  • Classic popular at all times. Doorways when using the classic style are decorated with an arch. Much attention is paid to mirrors, only natural building materials are used for decoration - ceramic tiles, wood, stone. Classics do not accept plastic and metal. Decorative plaster of beige, brown or other popular colors is applied to the walls, it is allowed to use photo wallpapers on the ceiling that imitate classic patterns. We will have to abandon the overall furniture, it can be replaced with folding furniture made from natural materials.
  • Loft style are chosen by modern young people and people of creative professions. Street style implies wall decoration with brick or stone; wallpaper imitating brickwork is suitable. This modern style direction emphasizes the uniform style of the room, but at the same time allows the zoning of the work area and recreation area. The color scheme is cold, most often white, gray and brown are used. Lighting is minimal, with preference for natural light coming through windows.

The furniture is bought simple and only necessary - a sofa, a chair, a table.

  • Scandinavian style implies the use of a wooden floor, the main thing is that the wood pattern is preserved. Minimalism is used in everything: both in the choice of furniture and in the choice of textiles. Therefore, it is recommended to broadcast not curtains to the windows, but roller blinds. Be sure to have bright details in the interior - green pillows or a red sofa. The walls are painted white.
