Provence and country styles, with their warmth, will certainly require the same cozy lighting. This task is difficult to cope with central lighting, because ceiling chandeliers and lamps with warm light look somewhat gloomy and dull.

Wall models for local lighting are a good alternative: stylish sconces in Provence and country styles.

About styles

People who remotely imagine both styles easily confuse them with each other, combining concepts. At the same time, the styles can really be called relatives, because their appearance followed each other with the addition of new details.

The primary source was and remains country - a rustic style with home-like quality of every detail and rural motifs sweet to the soul. Each of its details breathes with warmth, and therefore is characterized to a greater extent by warm tones in combination with natural wood.

Provence, on the other hand, has become a successful variation of country, because the creator of the style is the French bourgeoisie, inspired by the magnificent views and landscapes of the southeast of France. The preserved simplicity of the furniture here has found coolness, airiness and transparency of shades, becoming at the same time refined, but still cozy and homely.

The last round of styles was shabby chic, diluted with interesting interior items, naturally or artificially aged.

Lighting features

Wall lamps in rustic styles are as important as the main lighting, and therefore it is not recommended to save money and select "non-style" options. Of course, designer fixtures will fit the style accurately and clearly, but you can find other sconces - and, if necessary, bring them to fit the style. This can be done only with accurate knowledge of the details.

Country style is expressed in simple fixtures made of steel and painted in black or white.

Open shades are a priority here (when compared to closed ones), revealing the warm light of halogen devices or incandescent lamps. It is worth noting that the lamp with tinted golden glass gives a special character to the sconce. Here (as in the Provence style), a bar or nails are used as fasteners - in simpler versions.

Provence suggests a more subtle approach to the choice of sconces. The rod for the lamp must be curly, or even better, with interesting details (for example, floral or plant motifs). The patterns are made with the help of forged craftsmen.

Twists and branches of trees, delicate buds - these are the key points of choice. The number of lampshades in a sconce, as a rule, does not exceed two.

Views

Sconces on the wall often have open shades that aesthetically frame the warm light of the lamps. They can have elements of forging or be similar to metal plates. The simplicity of the plafond here is compensated by a curly bar.

An alternative to the open models is the closed hemispheres of frosted glass with steel elements. Their view is luxurious and truly immersing in the atmosphere of that era. The advantage of this option can be considered the possibility of using LED lamps with yellow glass, this allows you to reduce electricity costs.

Another popular option is a model with a textile lampshade on a curly bar. Many people prefer to paint such products in cold colors and decorate with lavender. Geometric patterns on textiles are well suited for country.

The fabric lampshade (as if sewn from a rustic tablecloth) is more relevant today than ever.

Color solutions

The colors of the country and Provence styles are different, although sometimes there are some similarities. Provence is based on cold or neutral tones, while for country, warm tones are familiar: peach, soft red.

One way or another, the judgments that styles are limited in shades are incorrect. No, Provence is not only a milky tone. Blue, gray, lemon and gray tones are common here and look very organic, as many note. Well suited for rustic styles and a hot pink palette.

Since prints are welcome in Provence and country styles, it is impossible to unambiguously highlight a particular color. It is wiser here to determine a win-win base color and a shade of flowers, birds and other prints used for decorating sconces.

Ideal style combinations of color palettes:

  • white base combined with sandy tones, indigo and multi-color compositions;
  • creamy base with pink and green patterns;
  • gray base with lavender or lemon decor.

Each shade has thousands of halftones, and therefore the colors of the lampshades of the sconces delight with their diversity and uniqueness.

When choosing a suitable option, you should take into account the interior design, the most insignificant nuances. In this case, the design will turn out to be complete, and you will not be disappointed with the result. The sconce will become a real decoration of the room, its highlight.

Materials (edit)

In a rustic interior, plastic and other unnatural materials cannot be seen, and therefore the motto when choosing a lamp should be naturalness in relation to shades and bases.

A good choice would be bleached wood for Provence style, natural shade - for country. Looks great ceramics at the base. It is worth saying that it is rarely used, because such a material is quite fragile, albeit beautiful. Stucco molding from this material on the base looks noble and gives the room a special status.

The material that is relevant for any direction is metal... Forged twist-effect details that mimic the twist look a win-win in any wall sconce. For light interiors, painting metal in white tones is suitable, for those made in darker colors - in gold-plated and black shades.

The material for shades in popular models is textile, which at first glance may seem impractical. However, modern models have a fabric that is fireproof and resistant to dirt and dust. The material is chosen matte and soft.

Glass Shades are also used in wall sconces - for example, in hemispherical luminaires. When made, the glass is thick and faceted, which as a result gives the light that very warmth and intimacy.

Examples in the interior

  • Wall sconces with milky lampshade match the central lighting provided by a five-arm chandelier. Light colors and a curved wall of the sconce, consisting of two shades, look colorful and elegant in French style.
  • Stylish flower arrangement in bright pink shades on a white base is distinguished by its tenderness and special airiness, perfectly playing up the romantic interior with pink walls in a truly feminine style. The muted tones of such a complex composition does not allow the latter to look pretentious.
  • The stylish blue-gray shade in the interior is harmoniously complemented by wall sconces with a lampshade. A calm, subdued option ideal for a bedroom setting.
  • Warm country style in bright, sunny colors is completed by pairing with two wall sconces on a bar (in orange color palette). Placed in the kitchen work area, they not only create the mood of style, but also become very practical elements.
