Often when buying an apartment or building a new house, the owners hardly pay attention to the size of the restroom. This is a mistake - a person spends a lot of time in this room, even if it is imperceptible. Many people try to enlarge other rooms by reducing the bathroom. This is also wrong - the area of the room must be sufficient for the location of all interior elements.

Accepted norms

In an attempt to save space at the expense of the toilet, many people get too carried away with it, not noticing how they have reduced the area of the toilet to a critical minimum. Everyone should be aware that there are generally accepted minimum sizes of the toilet, they are regulated by GOSTs and SNiPs.

The main parameters of the restrooms, regulated by SNiPs:

  • width - more than 0.8 m, length - from 1.2 m, ceiling height - from 250 cm;
  • when the toilet is located in the attic, the distance from the toilet to the inclined surface should be at least 105 cm;
  • the doors to the toilet can only be opened to the outside, the installation of doors inside is strictly prohibited;
  • the exit from the toilet should be arranged so as to get into the corridor, and not into the living area or the kitchen;
  • the height of the corridor when leaving the toilet must be at least 210 cm.

Also in SNiPs, the installation of plumbing is regulated.

If, in addition to the toilet, a bidet, washbasin or shower will be installed in the toilet, then you need to know and observe the following standards:

  • there should be a space of more than 70 cm in front of the shower or bath;
  • the bidet should be installed at a distance of about a quarter of a meter from the toilet;
  • there should be a distance of at least 25 cm from the toilet on the left and right sides;
  • there should be more than 60 cm of free space in front of the toilet;
  • in front of the sink, the free space should be at least 70 cm.

Real layouts

The size of the restrooms in multi-storey buildings has always been dictated by SNiPs. Since the basic standards have not changed for decades, then the size of the toilet rooms will not vary much.

Housing of the old model

In many older style flats, toilets are minimal in all respects. However, this does not hurt to make this room a comfortable room with free space.

To do this, you must follow some rules:

  • Draw up a floor plan. When placing a toilet and other plumbing fixtures, it is necessary to understand whether there is enough free space around.
  • Arrange niches in the wall. This will make the space a few centimeters wider, and here you can hide pipes or organize shelves for the little things you need.
  • When choosing a toilet, remember that there will be no room for a huge model in the "Khrushchev". All elements should be reasonably small.

New buildings

In modern panel houses, latrines have dimensions larger than the minimum values according to SNiPs. In small apartments, the size of the toilet is 4 sq. m, medium-sized - up to 6 sq. m. In elite apartments, a toilet room can have an area of up to 9 square meters. m - this allows you to equip the territory with complete comfort.

Also, in new buildings, some of the latest requirements of SNiPs are taken into account, which are not followed in "Khrushchevs". In modern odnushkas, when planning, a joint bathroom is laid - a toilet, a sink and a bathtub.A separate bathroom is made in 2 or 3-room apartments - a toilet room is separate from the bathroom. In four-room apartments, two shared bathrooms should be planned. These guidelines are designed to ensure the convenience and well-being of residents.

Individual construction

When building a large private house or a small room in the country, it is necessary to take into account the presence of a toilet. Its dimensions must comply with SNiPs, and the placement rules must also be fully observed. Nothing will prevent you from placing the restroom in the space under the stairs, if the height allows and you have to leave the room in the corridor.

For a summer cottage, it is not necessary to have a toilet with access to the sewer. According to SNiPs of the Russian Federation, it is enough to have a dry closet or a vestibule-gateway.

How to calculate the best option?

In many cases, it is almost impossible to change the size of the toilet room: few people want to carry out such an operation in an apartment, and breaking the walls is not worth it. This question usually arises when building a house from scratch and creating a plan for a future home.

Naturally, when calculating the area, it is necessary to take into account whether the bathroom will be separate or combined, and what will be in this room. Such decisions should not be spontaneous, but require cold calculation. After the room plan has been drawn up, you can start planning the toilet room in more detail.

When moving from a small apartment to a large house, many are tempted to make each room as voluminous as possible. It is worth noting that a large hall or a spacious bedroom is an excellent solution, but a huge bathroom is an unreasonable waste of space.

Taking into account building codes and laws of ergonomics, you can calculate how much area is needed for the correct placement of this or that plumbing fixture:

  • for a shower cabin you need 2-2.5 sq. m;
  • bath - from 2 to 3.5 sq. m;
  • toilet bowl - up to 2 sq. m;
  • sink - 1 sq. m.

Also, for a competent planning, you need to know:

  • standard dimensions for the toilet bowl - 440x650, 600x400, 650x360 mm;
  • bidet - 60x40 cm;
  • bath sizes - width 75 or 80 cm, length 150, 160 or 170 cm;
  • corner baths have dimensions of 150x150 cm or 160x160 cm;
  • shower cabins have an area of 80x80, 90x90 or 100x100 cm;
  • the minimum size of the washbasin is 400 mm wide.

Design ideas

Often times, the issue of the interior is not touched upon when it comes to the restroom. The misconception that the toilet should be a simple room without decorative elements. There is a large number of cabinets, shelves, accessories that can decorate the interior space of the room.

In rare cases, in apartments or private houses, the latrines are not rectangular in shape. This usually happens in situations where such a decision is dictated by the idea of the designer. Such options are not very popular due to the fact that it is inconvenient to place anything in corners that are not equal to 90 degrees.

However, it is worth paying attention to the option of creating a triangular toilet. This option is great for decorating a personal plot. Its construction does not require a huge investment of effort, money and time, but the effect will be amazing. This construction is usually made of wood and metal, but various composite options can also be used.

The choice of the height, length and width of such a toilet is a matter for the creator. For convenience, you need to measure everything and calculate the amount of material. A street toilet will be especially popular in the summer, when you don't want to go home again.

The choice of color solutions for the decoration of the restroom completely depends on the taste of the owner. There is a huge variety of wallpapers, wall tiles, ceiling panels, and floor coverings. If desired, everything can be sustained in light colors, choosing snow-white plumbing. Red goes well with this color - in this case, you get a moderately bright room.

Embossed walls look great in the bathroom. They help to hide the fact that the room is actually small. Dark floors look interesting. They create the necessary contrast, and the room ceases to be boring and monotonous.

When building a house, you need to know exactly what will be in the restroom - this will allow you to correctly calculate its area. In apartment buildings, it is impossible to increase the area of the toilet, however, you can change the design and give the room new colors. The arrangement of the toilet is a very important step, because this room is essential in any living space.
