A valance is a unique find for a hostess. It not only ennobles the look of the bedroom, but also adds some zest to the atmosphere of the room. The features of this paraphernalia will be discussed in our article.

Let's figure out for a start what a "valance" is. This term is called the decorative material with which the lower edge of the sleeping bed is framed. And it's not just stuff. It can be made with fabric sewn in folds or gathers. When the bed is removed, the valance hangs down and covers the lower part of the sleeping furniture.

It is worth highlighting some of the positive aspects of using a valance on a sleeping bed:

Therefore, this decoration of the bedroom in ancient times was found in every home. Over time, this approach became a thing of the past, as the height of the beds decreased, and the body began to look more modern and sleek. However, the vintage past for women has not gone anywhere, it remained as a tradition, so it was not allowed to fade away altogether. And now such decoration has become fashionable again.

There are only a few varieties of such bed attributes, which differ in style and design. By style, the valance can be divided into the following categories:

• Strict option. Suitable for classic and modern bedrooms. The cut of the valance is such that the smooth fabric has opposite folds both at the corners and in the middle of the material.
• Draped option. This style is very fond of the female sex, due to its simplicity and femininity. The fabric is filled with a mass of folds by means of scrunching the fabric.
• Pleated type. Mainly used in classic style bedroom. The folds of this valance model are one-sided or opposite pleats: they look smoothed and folded.

By design, the bed valance can be divided into the following variations:

• One-piece bedspread. It can be laid on top of the bed or under the mattress. It can be found on bed options where the tsars are relatively low. Otherwise, it is best to use a skirted valance design.

In most cases, the valance is purchased for girls' bedrooms. Therefore, the most common shades of this paraphernalia are light and cream tones. They are able to make an airy sleeping bed out of massive furniture. And in the case of separating furniture from other interior items, brighter shades are also suitable.

The most popular valuation materials are as follows:

• Chenille.
• Velvet.
• Artificial suede.

As beautiful as the fabric used is, the bedroom will feel like something is still missing. This circumstance can be corrected by transforming the valance.

There are several rules that will help to aesthetically and harmoniously design a sleeping bed using a valance:

• The berth and valance should have a common texture and color scheme.
• The valance can become not only the decor in the bedroom, but also the storage of some accessories that will always be at hand. For example, it is enough to make small graceful pockets on the valance so that your favorite thing is always in the hands of the owner of the room, if necessary.

• Pay attention to the size of the skirt. In order to properly purchase such paraphernalia, you need to know the size of the bed and mattress. In the event of a mismatch in size, it may not stretch on the bed or sit incorrectly on it.
• Another of the main selection criteria before buying is the amount of descent. Descent is the distance from the floor to the top of the base. For ready-made valances, this distance is standard - 38 centimeters.

• Choice of color scheme. Light colors will add tenderness and harmony, and bright colors will accentuate a beautiful bed.
