The stool is perhaps the first seating furniture in the history of mankind. It has been used for more than one millennium, but it is still too early to talk about the decline of the era of the stool, despite the long independent evolution of its younger brother, the chair. This piece of furniture continues to confidently hold its position not only in houses or apartments, but also in places of public catering. The designers of the IKEA company are constantly improving the range of stools offered for sale, and the combination of functions, for example, with a ladder, has given a completely new impetus to their development. This article is just dedicated to stools from IKEA.

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantage of IKEA stools is their simplicity, with indisputable functionality and versatility. Stools can be used for their intended purpose, that is, you can sit on them, but at the same time many models can be easily converted into a bedside table or stand, for example, for indoor plants.

On the basis of some models, you can create something completely new: shelves for the same plants or a tripod for a lamp.

There are models from which a coffee table can be easily mounted. At the same time, many are perfectly stackable, which reduces the space they occupy in the room, if they are not needed at the moment. For the manufacture of IKEA furniture, inexpensive materials are used, which makes it quite affordable in terms of price. Designers deliberately left their products minimally processed, this allows users to independently create unique interior elements using various decor options for purchased furniture.

However, this particular feature of IKEA furniture often plays against its choice. It will not work to buy ready-made exquisite furniture, all products are quite ascetic. This is the main credo of the company and is suitable for various variations of minimalist styles: minimalism, loft or Scandinavian.

It is quite possible to turn an IKEA stool into a status stool with certain design skills.

Model overview

There are quite a few modern stool models offered by the company, while the brand's designers are constantly improving those already adopted in production and suggesting new options. Currently, IKEA is successfully filling a large segment of the market, offering the widest range of products. Among the models there are universal ones, but there are also specialized ones: for children, for the kitchen, for bars. Some models are classified as a garden stool.

Some plastic models can be used as a washbasin stand for a child or a footrest complete with a computer chair, as well as a bath seat. There are models that combine, in addition to the seat function, also the function of a stepladder with an additional step. Specialized tall folding stools, developed on the basis of conventional ones, are often classified precisely as a ladder. We present an overview of some of the current models.

"Marius"

The simple model with a round seat "Marius" is one of the most popular for the kitchen. The product has 4 stable legs made of bent steel tube and a plastic seat, lightened by neat holes. Like many IKEA stools, "Marius" are easily stackable, which allows you to quickly free the room from unnecessary furniture... In addition to the classic black color, this model can also have bright colors. The stools are easy to paint in any color or combine unique colors.

"Beckwem"

A very original wooden model, often referred to as a ladder stool or step stool. Indeed, at first glance, the design seems strange, however, practical people have long appreciated and loved this model. The unusual design has significantly expanded the functionality: you can sit on the Beckwem stool, it can be turned into a bedside table and a shelf for shoes or indoor plants, it can also become a children's table or even turn into a toy gas stove... These are the miracles that human imagination and an additional step can create.

For ease of movement, the seat has a recess for the hand, which makes it easy and safe to move this model with one hand without changing its tilt.

"Kurre"

The original model with three legs and a triangular rounded seat. Made of high quality birch plywood or veneer of the same origin, the shelf life of which is practically unlimited. The design allows stools to be easily stacked when no longer needed. On sale you can usually find stained, black or red "Curre", but this does not mean that it cannot be repainted. And the company itself produces this model in other bright colors.

"Tengult"

Another original model. Outwardly, "Tengult" resembles the already mentioned "Beckwem" and is also classified as a ladder stool. The difference is in the material - in contrast to the already described model, bamboo is used for the manufacture of "Tengult". The material is durable and environmentally friendly. The external parameters of both ladder stools are identical.

"Odvar"

Outwardly - a classic four-legged stool, which all the boys of the Soviet Union tried to make in labor lessons in the middle of the last century. Material - pine massif. At your discretion, this model can be decoratively modified. (grind, paint, age, etc.). The product is designed for loads up to 100 kg.

    Ingolf

A somewhat refined model of a classic stool. A slight stylish twist and bindings add sophistication. Ingolf will revive the interior of the kitchen in Provence or Scandinavian style. The company produces this popular model in a natural shade (wood), black or white. Compared to the classic Odvar, the modified Ingolf costs about three times as much.

    "Bengthokan"

The high-tech Bengthokan stool is unlike all other models offered by IKEA. It is made from a single piece of molded bamboo veneer. This model has absolutely no joints, it is one piece. Needless to say, such furniture is practically eternal, although not repairable. The stools are easy to stack, nesting one into the other. This model can be used as a side table. The structure is strong enough for 110 kg.

    "Kullaberg"

Round, height-adjustable stool. The seat is made of solid pine, the legs and movable elements are made of steel. Each leg can also be adjusted for maximum stability. The steel ring that secures the legs also serves as a footrest. By unscrewing the seat, you can raise it, turning the Kullabert into a bar stool up to 95 cm high. With the seat down, it becomes a classic kitchen stool. The maximum tested load is 110 kg. The design features do not allow these products to be stacked.

    Criterias of choice

As you can see from this far from complete overview, the variety of IKEA stool models is very large. In fact, it is not just possible to select this piece of furniture for some specific purpose, but this is exactly what the company was striving for, creating inexpensive and functional samples. The company's designers are not limited to traditional wood and steel, durable plastic is widely used.

A versatile stool that can be used as a seat in the bathroom or for a shower stall, it can also be a stand for children so that they can reach the sink or kitchen counter. This is also a characteristic feature of IKEA's policy - the development of multifunctional, inexpensive and affordable furniture for the widest segments of the population.

When choosing IKEA stools, you should first of all be guided by your own urgent needs.

    • If you intend to use furniture sometimes, for example, for family holidays, when many relatives gather, it is better to purchase inexpensive models with the possibility of stacking, since they are easier to store in the closet or on the balcony ("Kurre", "Bengthokan" or "Marius").
    • For a bathroom or as a support for a child, it is a good idea to have a plastic stool (for example "Bolman").
    • If a stool is needed not only for a seat, but also as a table, the classic models "Odvar" or "Ingolf" are perfect. Suitable for this purpose and ladder stools "Tengult" or "Beckvem".
    • The latest models will perfectly help if you need to get something from the mezzanine or upper shelves; on the basis of the Beckwem stool, a real folding step-ladder has also been developed.
    • If the kitchen is equipped with a bar counter, the Kullabert stool is the ideal solution. By lowering the seat, it can be converted into a comfortable multifunctional stool.
