Furniture from the Swedish brand Ikea is known to everyone today. And the tables on this list are no exception. Ikea offers this piece of furniture in various designs: for the living room, dining room, nursery, bedroom, office or garden furniture.

Sizes and shapes

At Ikea, you can choose a table for any needs and requests. Most of the models are adapted for small spaces.

For arranging a small kitchen, which is also a dining room, the Swedish furniture manufacturer offers many models:

  • Folding tables (Norden).
  • With a folding table top ("Norberg", "Norbu", "Bjursta") - such a table is attached to the wall, when folded it turns into a shelf and saves space.
  • With drop-down floors (Ingatorp, Mokkelby) - the tabletop consists of two or three parts, one or two of which, respectively, go down. As the number of people at the table increases, you can increase the table area by raising one or two floors.
  • Narrow tables (60-70 cm wide).
  • Sliding - if necessary, the size of the table top is increased by an insert board.

For spacious kitchens and dining rooms at Ikea, you can choose large round (Ingatorp, Leksvik), square (Bjursta, Olmstad) or long rectangular tables (Ingatorp). High bar tables (Bilsta) can also be found here.

Ikea also took care of the arrangement of the workplace. The models presented in this category are very diverse in their sizes and configurations. Here you can find a compact triangular table-stand for a laptop, and a traditional large desk with shelves and drawers. Workplaces can be either straight (Mikkke, Hemnes, Bekant, Brusali) or angular (Mikke, Bekant). Separate desks are equipped with additional modules - a monitor stand, shelves and drawers.

Children are a special concern of Ikea. Tables of special sizes with a height of 43 cm have been developed for them. As a rule, they are rectangular in shape with rounded edges to ensure the safety of the child during games and activities. In the Ikea line, you can also find the original model of a children's desk ("Fleece") with an inclined table top that is adjustable depending on the age of the child, and a picnic table combined with benches.

Living room tables have the greatest variety of shapes and sizes.

Here you can find models with square, round, semicircular, oval, triangular and rectangular countertops. They can be equipped with a base of the same shape or not at all. An interesting model of the coffee table "Arkelstorp", which is a reduced version of the dining table with folding semicircular floors.

Ikea garden tables are presented in different sizes - from small ones designed for 1-2 people to models for a large family (4-6 people). At the same time, their shape is quite simple, without frills - round, oval or rectangular.

Materials and constructions

In the manufacture of tables and tables, the company uses the following materials:

  • Solid wood (pine, oak, beech, birch, walnut, acacia), birch plywood, ash, oak, walnut veneer. Wood products are distinguished by their reliability and long service life. Solid birch is used for the carrying strapping, supports, countertops, beech and oak for the bottom strapping, pine for the main parts.

The wood is covered with clear varnish, stain or acrylic paint. In some models, the wooden countertop is left untreated. This is a kind of space for a flight of fantasy. If desired, such a surface can be sanded, varnished or painted in any color. The product can be completely wooden, or it can have only some elements of natural material, which is also quite practical.

If, for example, the table frame and the lower layer of the table top are made of chipboard, and the upper part of the table top is made of wood, then this combination makes the furniture less expensive, but at the same time retains its functional qualities.

  • Particleboard and fiberboard. Chipboard and fibreboard. Tabletops, underframes, shelves, legs, and drawer bottoms are made of them.
  • Metal. For the manufacture of metal frames for tables and tabletops, in some models, steel with a special powder coating is used.
  • ABS plastic. Individual table elements can be plastic, for example, shelves. Plastic is also used to decorate some countertops.
  • Strained glass used for the manufacture of countertops and underframes.

The designers of the Ikea concern work on the development of the design of each table, since this type of furniture should not only be visually attractive, but also be durable, reliable and safe for those who use it:

  • Furniture for eating from Ikea has a fairly simple design. Most often it is a stable four-legged construction with a square, rectangular or round table top. Round tables can be installed on one massive carved leg.
  • Side tables and coffee tables for the living room they have different designs that allow you to place everything you need next to you for a pleasant stay on the sofa. Simple designs - to put a TV remote control or put a cup of tea, more complex ones can be equipped with shelves or drawers for storing newspapers, magazines, napkins.
  • Side tables from Ikea are quite often supplied with wheels, thanks to which they become swivel. Such a rotating piece of furniture on wheels can be easily moved from place to place as needed.
  • Looks interesting coffee table on nickel-plated legs about 30 cm high, equipped with drawers for remote controls and a shelf for newspapers and magazines.
  • Side tables can also have a design in the form of a mesh metal ("Quistbru") or rattan wicker basket with a table top ("Sandhaug"), in the latter it is very convenient to store chargers (at the base of the table there are holes through which a cord can be pulled). You can store magazines or a warm blanket in the basket of a metal table, or you can leave it empty to emphasize the airiness of the interior. These tables are easy to move around the apartment.
  • Some side table models sold immediately in a set of 2 or 3. For example, "Lakk", "Svalsta", "Jupperlig", "Niboda", "Rissna", "Witsche". They move and, as it were, put on one another. If necessary, they can be used as two independent pieces of furniture.
  • Desks and computer tables have a wide variety of design solutions. It can be just a tabletop lying on four or two legs, or it can be a whole complex consisting of a table connected to a shelving unit.
  • Ikea offers its customers both straight and angled wall desksequipped with special stands for office supplies, drawers and shelves for papers.Some models ("Paul") have tabletops adjustable in height (up to three levels), that is, such a workplace will be equally convenient for both a younger student and a senior student.
  • A separate category includes desks series "Svalnes". It is a kind of combination of work and storage space, which is a wall-mounted structure consisting of worktops with drawers, hanging shelves, a storage module with sliding doors and rails for attaching these elements. This pendant combination seems to float in the air.
  • Dressing tables from Ikea are represented by three models ("Hemnes", "Brimnes", "Malm"). The Hemnes model is the most elegant. The sleek oval mirror is set on a glass-covered wooden tabletop supported by curved legs. The Brimnes model has two drawers for women's little things with lifting lids, on which mirrors are installed on the inside. The Malm model has the simplest U-shaped design with one large pull-out drawer.

Folding models

Ikea folding table models deserve special attention:

  • Transformer - folding table or as it is also called "book" ("Norden"). The table top is divided into three parts: the middle part is the narrowest and two sloping floors on both sides. Six drawers for small kitchen utensils are located under the middle part of the worktop. When folded, it resembles a curbstone.
  • With drop-down floors (Ingatorp, Mokkelby, Ikea PS 2012, Modus, Gamlebi). Such models also have tabletops, divided by special fasteners into three parts, two of which go down. The difference between this type of furniture and a transformer is that when the floors are lowered, it can be used as a full-fledged table. The floors only increase the usable area of its countertop.
  • Swing-out wall fasteners ("Norbu", "Norberg"). This model is a table top attached to the wall, which can be folded when moved to the side of a special holder. These tables are ideal for small spaces where every inch of floor space counts.
  • Sliding ("Bjursta", "Ingatorp", "Sturnes", "Leksvik", "Glivarp", "Vangsta"). It is a structure in which the surface area is increased due to the extension of an additional insert board stored under the table top.
  • Retractable ("Witsche", "Niboda", "Risna", "Lakk", "Jupperlig"). Such models are sold at once in two or three. They have different sizes and are placed like a "matryoshka" one inside the other and, if necessary, a smaller table can always be easily pulled out from under a larger one.

Color solutions

Most of the Ikea table models are white or black as basic. Solid wood models most often have the natural color of untreated wood (from light to darker shades). Glass tables have transparent tops and metal-colored legs.

Two-tone furniture is also possible: the table top is light wood, the legs are wenge (Skogsta) or white (Gamleby, Ikea PS 2012, Lerhamn), or black (Gamlared, Kullaberg). Multicolored models in Ikea are quite rare, preference is still given to natural natural shades. Sometimes in the decoration you can find red, green, pink colors.

How to choose?

First you need to decide for which room you need a table and what functional load it will carry.

For kitchen, dining room

This is the most responsible choice, since the furniture for eating should be comfortable for all family members, durable and beautiful.

When choosing furniture for the dining area, you need to build on:

  • General stylistic concept of the kitchen space (color and texture of kitchen facades, apron, textile design);
  • Durability of the countertop coating, resistance to mechanical and temperature influences;
  • The area that is allocated for the placement of the table.The most optimal is the width of the table top 80-100 cm, since it allows you to serve the table without any problems. To this distance, you will have to add another 70 cm on each side (so much space is needed to accommodate one person);
  • The number of family members who will be at the table at the same time. If you need a table for two, then in order not to break mutual understanding in the family, you should not purchase too wide and bulky models;
  • Places of its placement. So, a model with a round table top is not suitable for the window-window placement of the table. In this case, it is better to choose a rectangular or square model. It can be placed either against the window or against the wall.

For the living room

A table for the main room in the house is selected based on the availability of free space in the sofa area and the style of the room. If there is enough space, then it is better to choose the option with a spacious coffee table, which can also become an additional place for storing the necessary little things - remotes, magazines, chargers, books, etc.

If there is not enough space, you can pay attention to the side tables, which are much smaller and less spacious, but at the same time make it possible to keep the necessary things close at hand.

In the living room, you can also place the so-called console table, which can be placed against the wall or against the back of the sofa. You can place pictures, souvenirs, a table lamp or a small TV on it. In the underframe of the console, you can store all sorts of small things by placing them in wicker baskets.

For bedroom

A boudoir table is a must-have item in the interior of a female bedroom. When choosing it, one should proceed from the availability of free space and the general style of the bedroom. The dressing table should be as spacious as possible so that you can place numerous jars and tubes with cosmetics and jewelry in it.

It is better if the countertop will be with a protective coating so that it can be easily removed from it, for example, spilled powder or spilled cream.

For the workplace

Choosing a desktop is also based on the availability of free space. For example, a corner table would be a good option for a small room. You can also try placing a straight, but not wide, desk or computer desk next to the window. You will get a window-shed version of the workplace. Then it will be possible to place the necessary accessories for work on the windowsill, saving on the purchase of additional storage modules.

In addition, when choosing a workplace, take into account the possibility of placing a computer, an additional headset, office supplies, textbooks and notebooks on the working surface. Equally important is the presence of various boxes, shelves, racks. If a work table is chosen for a child, then it is better to choose models with table top height adjustment (from 59 to 72 cm).

If it is necessary for the workplace to be extremely hidden from view, then it is better to pay attention to the bureau, which is a kind of cabinet with doors, behind which there are shelves and the workplace itself. The cabinet is made in such a way that you can place a monitor in it, all the wires are hidden in a separate compartment, but at the same time they are easily accessible. The shelves are removable. Their height can be adjusted to your liking.

Interior options

The "Bekant" desktop on two legs is an excellent option for organizing a workplace in an office.

Extendable table "Stornes", complemented by soft chairs "Henriksdal", occupies a central place in the interior of the living room. The rest of the space, as it were, complements it. Thanks to the sliding mechanism, even the largest family can be accommodated at such a table.

The model with drop-down floors "Gemlaby" looks light and weightless and does not clutter up the dining area at all. If you fold it, then there will be even more space.

A pink serving table will become a lifesaver if you need to serve tea or coffee to unexpected guests.Due to the presence of a folding mechanism, it does not take up much space; it can be easily hidden in a pantry or behind a sofa.

A side table in the form of a chest "Hall" with a wicker decor from the array of the action makes the interior unique. Such a chest can easily accommodate several large blankets, which are so nice to wrap up in on cold winter evenings.
