Forged benches are an essential attribute of parks, squares, boulevards, alleys and even personal plots. Their popularity is due to their strength and durability, as well as their attractive appearance.

Advantages and disadvantages

Each product has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantages of forging benches are as follows.

  • The ability to embody any idea. It is in forging that there is a chance to realize the most original sketches. It doesn't matter if it's a flower, an abstract twisted figure, or an open book - an experienced blacksmith can create it all from metal.
  • The popularity of artistic forging has persisted for several centuries due to the combination of high strength and elegant appearance.
  • Resistance of forged products to temperature extremes, precipitation, winds. Thanks to a special coating, the metal does not corrode.
  • Forged parts practically do not bend, do not break, do not deform.
  • Long period of operation - up to two decades. In this case, the original appearance remains unchanged.
  • Forged elements go well with other materials - wood, brick, stone, which makes it possible to create a lot of variations. They can also be installed on any base - concrete, brick, stone.

The main disadvantage of benches with forging is their price. They are much more expensive than similar wood products.

Description of species

Benches with forged elements are very different:

  • simple and non-standard geometric shape;
  • without armrests and with semicircular or round sides;
  • straight and inclined;
  • stable and suspended;
  • rocking benches.

By design

According to the design, forged benches can be divided into 2 large groups.

  • Solid forged - as the name suggests, only metal rods are used to create them. As a rule, they are quite light, which makes it possible, if necessary, to change their location, rearranging them to one place or another on the site. It is not difficult to take care of such a product, it is enough to tint the chips in a timely manner to prevent corrosion, and also to clean and wipe the bench with wax.
  • Combined benches - to create them, not only forged rods are used, but also other materials. These products may have a soft fabric or durable wooden seat. Combined benches look very noble, but it is more difficult to care for them, as they wear out faster.

Benches can be straight, semicircular, corner. If typical city benches, as a rule, have the same length, then summer cottages can be made to order in any length and width. When decorating spaces in parks and squares, one style solution is often used, but different sizes - benches, chairs, benches for 2 or 3 seats, hypertrophied wide benches, all of which are designed in the same color and made of the same material.

By material

Steel or plastic high-strength alloys are used as the material for the base of the forged bench. The elements of the frame, legs and armrests are made of them, in addition, the back of the bench or some elements can be steel. When parts are assembled, the method is soldered, riveted, hearth or electric welding. There are also special devices with which you can give the metal the texture of wood, bamboo trunk or vine.

After the metal structure is assembled, it is coated with a special zinc primer to prevent corrosion. Next, paint and varnish are applied, both products must be resistant to external influences. The paint can be black, brown, as well as gold, silver or bronze.

Patina is very popular - a special solution with which you can give a product a vintage, retro effect.

The seat on a wrought iron bench can be made of stone or wood. If wood is used, then each element must be treated with a composition against mold and mildew, tinted and varnished.

To create a frame, you will need a profile pipe 20x20, 25x25, 40x40 in size. Decorative details are made of elements with dimensions 10x10, 12x12, 20x20. Before the start of cold forging, all metal parts are treated with an anti-corrosion compound.

After the fabrication of the frame is completed, it is primed, covered with a special paint, then a bar or board is placed on it - the seat material. The seat, backrest and armrests are made of solid wood - oak, ash, pine and other species.

By appointment

In accordance with where they will be located, all benches with forged elements can be divided into the following options.

  • Park. Contrary to the name, they are installed not only in parks, but also in squares, on alleys, in any other landscaped areas. As a rule, they are arranged in groups, they are all united by style and color scheme.
  • Country houses. A wrought-iron bench, combining in style with other products in the country exterior, gives the space a cosiness and grace.
  • Street. The main requirement for such benches is comfort and durability. As a rule, they are also designed in the same style and are in harmony with other elements of street improvement.
  • Advertising. Such products are rare, but they are found on the streets of large cities. It can be both social advertising and commercial. They should not violate the harmony in the cityscape, standing out with unnecessarily bright or loud details or slogans.

Style directions

Forged products, including benches, can be decorated in different styles. For example, a bench in the style of minimalism is the simplest and most functional solution. Most often, such items combine either several shades of metal rods, or two materials. For minimalism, an abundance of details and redundancy of decorations are uncharacteristic. First of all, such products meet the requirements of convenience.

As for the products in the Empire style, they, on the contrary, are necessarily finished with massive forged details of a fancy shape. In most cases, wood is used for the manufacture of the back and seat.

The railings and frame are painted black.

Benches in a romantic style require great skills from the manufacturer, because forged parts should be delicate, airy, thin. As for the shape of the seat and backrest, they often resemble a sofa or sofa with a wide bed. The backrest can be "reclined" back, making it possible to climb onto the seat with your legs and get comfortable. The bench should be long enough to accommodate two people while still sitting close to each other.

The Art Nouveau style is characterized by a symbiosis of a harmonious combination of emphasized functional details with an original "broken" shape and geometric rounded decor of the armrests and / or backrests.

The Baroque style is distinguished by an abundance of decorative details, their emphasized redundancy. It is for baroque benches that the backs in the form of stylized butterflies, curls, one or more flowers are characteristic.

Gothic benches are immediately recognizable by the presence of arches typical of this style in the design of the backs or armrests. Also in the Gothic style, trefoils and four-leaf clover are used as decorative elements.The Gothic style bench can be complemented with an arched roof.

Art Deco benches are characterized by clarity, symmetry, geometric patterns in the design. Each product has its own pattern and is designed to reflect the luxury and solidity of landscape design.

Location options

A wrought iron bench can be placed not only in the garden or in the summer cottage. Such benches look great in the hallway. It is convenient to put on or take off your shoes on them, they are beautiful and durable. Of course, this will be a much more modest product, perhaps with a soft fabric seat, without a backrest and armrests, because it simply will not work to put a full-fledged forged bench in the corridor or room of a typical city apartment. A place for such products in the country or on the adjacent territory of the cottage, in the courtyard, as well as in parks, on streets and alleys, in urban recreation areas.

There are not so many options for placing a bench with forging in the country. First, you can't just put it on the ground. You need a solid support, a foundation.

Therefore, first you need to choose a place where you can pour such a foundation, or place benches on an existing foundation - for example, in a recreation area near a barbecue or barbecue.

The place of its location also depends on the type and purpose of the bench. For example, a product with a canopy can be placed both in the shade and in the sun - the canopy will protect both from precipitation and scorching rays. Ordinary benches are located either near the house, or near the entrance to the site, or in the recreation area - with or without a canopy.

It is great if there is an alpine slide, a pond or a fountain nearby, garden statues, lanterns - everything that will make an ideal ensemble with a bench. It is better, of course, if the location is not too sunny, otherwise the seat and back will get hot in the heat. However, the place should be such that the bench is visible - for example, in a gazebo or under the shade of trees.

The swing bench is a great option both for families with children and for lovers of secluded relaxation with a book in the back of the garden. You can put one or two of these benches - both under a common canopy, and under different ones, you get a full-fledged recreation area.

Benches with soft fabric seats are perfect for a summer kitchen, especially if you choose the appropriate type of chairs and a table with forging elements. Supports for the kitchen canopy are also recommended to be supplemented with forged elements, then the ensemble will be even more harmonious.

Care Tips

Forged things that are on the street do not need constant rubbing to a shine. The most important thing is the integrity of the anti-corrosion coating, if chips appear on it, they must be covered with a rustproofing compound. You can clean the forged parts with ordinary chalk or onion juice, it is better to do this in the summer. The rain will wash away all unpleasant odors and white marks.

In order to timely remove peeling paint and metal particles, you need to use a special metal brush or a grinder saw with a cutting wheel. After the paint and metal shavings are cleaned off, you need to paint the parts again. To get a relief, you need hammer paint for metal, and if you want the surface to shine with gloss, blacksmith enamel with polymers is suitable.

If you properly care for forged products, they will last a long time and will not lose their attractive appearance.
