Creating grooves in walls is not an easy process, which is why most builders use wall chasers. This tool allows you to get the job done fairly quickly and without much difficulty. One of the manufacturers of this equipment is Makita.

Peculiarities

Before looking at this technique directly, it is important to mention the features of the Makita furrow cutters.

  • Professional quality. The rather high price for these units is primarily due to the overall high level of quality. The complete set, ease of use, versatility - all this allows us to call this manufacturer's wall chasers suitable for any range of work, from simple tasks to full-scale construction. It is worth noting that all Makita products are very famous in the tool market, so consumers know how high the quality of this technique is.
  • Security. The design is created according to the labyrinth seal scheme, due to which the engine and individual parts are completely protected from foreign debris that can clog into the gaps. In addition, there is a special aluminum casing. It allows you to reduce the risk of danger due to improper work with the tool, as well as partially protect the worker from dust and construction debris.
  • Manufacturability. High quality materials are used in the creation of Makita wall chasers, which is reflected in the presence of a durable body made of magnesium alloy. One cannot fail to mention the presence of functions that simplify the use of furrow makers. Among them, we can mention the soft start system and electronic systems that regulate the speed of revolutions and allow them to be reduced directly under load during the working process.

Model overview

Makita 4112HS - a large and powerful furrower, equipped with everything you need to do the job well. For added convenience, there is a dedicated handle and dust extraction system to protect the worker from inhaling construction debris. For inexperienced users, the Super Joint System function is built in, which provides a smooth first launch without any jerking.

The 2.4 kW motor is powerful enough to cut holes in tough materials such as brick and concrete. The main work is performed by a single working disc with a diameter of 305 mm. The maximum cutting depth is 100 mm, and it can be adjusted using a lever. The cable length is 2.5 meters, the landing diameter is 25.4 mm. The spindle speed can be up to 5000 rpm.

The package contains a carrying case, protective cover, handle and wrench. Weight 10.3 kg, which is a considerable indicator relative to wall chasers.

Makita 4114HS - a model that is a modification of its predecessor. The main differences are the change in technical characteristics. The power remained the same, but the disc diameter increased to 355 mm. This, in turn, entailed a change in the spindle speed. Now it is 3500 rpm. Thus, the emphasis was placed on the greater performance of the device.

Maximum cutting depth 125 mm, bore diameter 25.4 mm. The available safety system in the form of a metal casing and a comfortable handle make this model easy to operate. Additionally, there is the possibility of adjusting the cutting depth and the function of soft start. Weight 10.3 kg, only packaging is included, which is a disadvantage in comparison with the previous model.

Makita SG-1251J - a very handy and small wall chaser that does the best job of creating furrows when laying pipelines or cables. There is a branch pipe to which you can connect a vacuum cleaner to clean the workplace from dust and debris. Unlike the HS models, this machine is equipped with two working discs, each with a diameter of 125 mm.

The cable length is 5 meters, the width of the groove to be created is in the range from 6 to 30 mm, the landing diameter is 22.2 mm. Among the functions, we can note the presence of a soft start system and the ability to maintain constant speed under load. A distinctive feature is the high spindle speed, which is 10,000 rpm.

Weighing only 4.5 kg, the package contains 2 diamond discs and a Systainer for carrying and storing the furrow cutter.

In general, this model can be called the most relevant for performing a large amount of work, but a small amount. This is facilitated by high speed, low weight and an additional handle for increased comfort.

Makita SG 150 - a balanced unit that combines simplicity, efficiency, speed and reliability. 1800 W motor power and 2 working discs with a diameter of 150 mm allow the creation of grooves in the walls for pipe and electrical wiring. The maximum cutting depth is 45 mm, the groove width is from 7 to 35 mm. The bore diameter is 22.2 mm, the spindle rotation speed can reach 7800 rpm.

Weight is 5.6 kg, the package includes a wrench and spacer rings in the amount of 3 pieces. As for other replaceable elements, for example, diamond discs, they will have to be purchased separately.

Components and accessories

During operation, you will come across the fact that you will need to change discs, install new intermediate rings, twist and adjust something. For some models, these elements are included in the package, but for some they need to be purchased separately. An important accessory is an industrial vacuum cleaner, the main purpose of which is to clean the workplace.

During the chasing, dust and debris will begin to actively form as a result of the creation of holes in the wall. Inhaling all this is dangerous for the worker's body, so it is important to have a vacuum cleaner that will not only make the surrounding area cleaner, but also protect the user.

Do not forget about the protective cover that comes with the Makita furrowers. Its installation will also allow you to avoid the ingress of building material residues on work clothes.

Operating tips

The wall chaser is a tool with a battery type of work, so make sure that no liquids get into the inside of the device, because this can lead to malfunctions in the electronics, and subsequently make the unit malfunctioning. Your instrument must be connected to an appropriate power supply with the correct voltage. The wire must be checked for defects before each working session.

Do not make any additional changes to the design, if it is not provided by the instructions, for example, when installing the second handle. The workplace should be the most free of foreign objects and people, because they can suffer during the creation of furrows in the walls. Use special clothing and personal protective equipment as these prevent dust from inhaling and getting on the skin.

Before replacing any replacement element, read the instructions and familiarize yourself with the exact information on how to properly carry out this process. Store your wall chaser in a dry place with average temperature.
