A spacious wardrobe is the most popular solution for decorating a hallway. We will get acquainted with the varieties, models and assembly methods in this article.

Features and Benefits

The main advantage of the wardrobe is that it can accommodate the maximum number of things that will be hidden behind a beautiful facade. The room will always be in order, and you will always have instant access to everything you need.

The filling of wardrobes is varied, usually a mix of a crossbar, drawers and shelves is chosen for hallways. Thanks to this, inside it will be possible to place outerwear on hangers, accessories, shoes, hats and much more.

The sliding wardrobe will ideally fit into the interior of almost any hallway. Thanks to a large selection of models and colors, it can be a bright accent of the interior, or merge with it, complementing the overall picture.

Most importantly, due to its spaciousness, the wardrobe is a very profitable purchase. Instead of buying several pieces of cabinet furniture, you buy only one cabinet of the complete set you need, which, moreover, saves space in the hallway. Considering their small size in most ordinary apartments, this is another significant advantage.

Models

Case

A standard model that is robust and reliable. Usually it has three walls and several doors. There are two-leaf and three-leaf options, depending on the size of the cabinet.

Its main advantage is that the cabinet cabinet can be easily moved to another place if necessary.

Built in

Despite the relative versatility of the cabinet model, built-in models are usually chosen for the hallway. Their advantage is that you can save good money on materials, because the price of the back wall is automatically subtracted from the total cost, which may well not be. If it is a corner cabinet, one of the side walls may also be missing. The shelves in the closet are attached directly to the hallway wall.

Since the cabinet is built directly into the wall, there are no gaps between the ceiling and the floor, which gives a lot of room for creativity - you can depict anything on the huge doors, having received a very non-standard cabinet.

One of the drawbacks of this model is the possible instability of the structure, so it is not very suitable for those who, for example, have hyperactive children.

Modular

One of the most successful options for the hallway, since this model is assembled from several modules of various configurations. You can choose them at your will and discretion, thus creating the interior you need. For example, it can be various external cabinets, bedside tables, hangers, and much more.

All of the above cabinet models are divided into three types.

Straightforward

A standard rectangular cabinet that fits almost any interior. So, in a small hallway, you can pick up a shallow model that will take up very little space.

Angular

Another popular model that is suitable for a small hallway. The wardrobe is built into the corner, thanks to which a lot of space is formed in the corner, and there you can hide not only clothes, but also something more voluminous. For example, a vacuum cleaner, ironing board, and more.

Radial

A wardrobe with an unusual shape, it can be any curved lines that just come to your mind. They look great in the interior, and are especially suitable for non-standard style solutions. However, this is the most expensive of all of the above.

Internal filling

As you already understood, wardrobes are completely closed and modular. Such models are conventionally divided into two parts - a zone with closed facades, where everything bulky and rarely used is stored, and an area with open shelves and hooks, where you can place what is in use every day. For the hallway, modular systems of the following configurations are most often chosen.

With shoe rack

A shoe rack can be of two types - a free-standing element that looks like a cabinet outwardly and a series of shelves built into the wardrobe, where your shoes will be placed. If there are a lot of shoes, you can make a whole column of shelves for the entire height of the cabinet.

The olki inside the shoe rack can be mesh and sliding. With the first, for sure, everything is clear, they are made from a strong mesh so that dirt from shoes does not accumulate on the shelves. Sliding ones are two horizontal tubes, they can be moved apart in width, depending on how many shoes you need to place on the shelves.

With hanger

An open front for outerwear has its advantages - clothes can be easily removed from the hook and put on before leaving the house. A bag, scarf or headgear is also easy to reach.

The modular system, made in the same style, consisting of a small wardrobe and an open hanger, is ideal for a small hallway - it visually takes up much less space.

With console

If at least one of the sides of the cabinet does not adhere to the wall, most often the console serves as the finishing element - a kind of bookcase with a series of open shelves on which you can store all kinds of trifles, cosmetics or place flowerpots with flowers that do not require sunlight.

The console usually has a semicircular shape, so it allows you to smooth corners and visually smooth out the bulky effect that a large wardrobe creates.

With a chest of drawers

A chest of drawers is a very convenient addition to a wardrobe, as it solves the problem of uncomfortable high mezzanines, protruding corners and the inconvenience of storing your accessories.

This piece of furniture is perfect for storing your hats, scarves, gloves, small handbags and clutches that can't be hung on a hook. The top drawer can be used to store small items. On the dresser you can place perfumes, cosmetics, combs and much more. It is convenient to hang a mirror above it, in which you will look before leaving the house.

Dressing room with wardrobe

A wardrobe room is much better than any closet, but finding a place for it in an ordinary apartment is not an easy task. A good solution is to turn the entire long corridor without doors into a dressing room.

If its width is less than one and a half meters, the modular storage system can be installed on one side. If width allows, position the storage system on both sides. Since this is a walk-through room, the presence of doors is a prerequisite, and a wardrobe in this case would be an excellent solution.

Styles

Modern manufacturers offer such a wide assortment of sliding wardrobes that their diversity makes them dizzy. Which style to give preference is, first of all, a matter of taste, but even here there are recommendations.

Modern

This style does not put any restrictions, so feel free to experiment. Give preference to simplicity in design, but using modern materials and non-standard textures. It can be a combination of matte and glossy surfaces, a combination of several structures or bright colors.

Classical

If the interior of your entire apartment is made in a classic style, the hallway should match it. A sliding wardrobe made of natural wood or its high-quality imitation is suitable here, an obvious fake imitation of wood will look ridiculous.

Give preference to light colors and suitable patterns - carved patterns, stucco. A radius cabinet with smooth curves corresponding to the aesthetics of the classic style will be appropriate here.

Minimalism

A laconic wardrobe with a flat monochromatic facade without unnecessary details will fit into such an interior. A good solution is furniture that matches the color of the walls, since this way it will not visually take up precious space.

Provence

Recently, this style has been very popular due to its tenderness and sophistication. To choose a suitable wardrobe for such an interior, you will have to work hard, and, most likely, make it to order.

It should be a model with a simple yet textured, aged, antique design. If it is a modular system with open shelves, choose forged metal elements. As for the color scheme, it should be pastel, “burnt out”. Carved or painted patterns, decoupage elements will be appropriate.

Loft

This style of interior presupposes the presence of a large space, which in modern apartments is possible only by combining the hallway with the living room. This technique gives a lot of room for creativity, since there will be plenty of space for placing a wardrobe.

In terms of design, opt for modern wood models in muted colors. A facade with a mirror or dark glass will look good.

Color solutions

Most often, hallways are made in light colors, which allows you to experiment with the color of the wardrobe. If you choose light (maple, alder, milk oak), it will blend in with the color of the walls, and you will get the feeling of a larger space.

If you do not want the hallway to look monotonous, choose a light cabinet with dark inserts. A modular system made in two or three colors will look especially good.

If you want to buy a dark wardrobe, choose a cherry or wenge color model. To prevent the furniture from looking gloomy, light inserts or frosted glass in combination with a mirror will do.

Selection Tips

The choice of cabinet should be based not only on personal preference, but also on the features of the size and shape of your hallway:

  • First of all, pay attention to the most spacious models, especially if a large family lives in the apartment.
  • Be sure to look for shelves and hangers for storing accessories, shoe care products, umbrellas and more.
  • If you choose not a modular system, but a one-piece wardrobe, a free-standing shoe rack will look ridiculous, so it should be built into the closet.
  • Choosing a model for a small hallway, give preference to a narrow radius wardrobe with mirrored doors that visually expand the space.
  • If the entrance to the corridor is located in the middle of a long wall, it makes sense to purchase a corner wardrobe.

Where to locate?

The placement of the wardrobe in the hallway, first of all, depends on its layout and size:

  1. If the hallway is small, place the wardrobe in a niche or choose a corner model. You will have to estimate how much space you can allocate for furniture, and order only the most necessary equipment - nothing superfluous that will take up precious space.
  2. In the hallway of a standard shape and with sufficient capacity, you can pick up a wardrobe of any modification and, accordingly, you can also place it anywhere. It can be either a corner model or a wardrobe on the whole wall.
  3. In the corridor, combined with another room, you can pick up a rectilinear or L-shaped model, which will serve as a partition, performing the zoning function. For example, this is true in a studio apartment.

It is important that your wardrobe is located a short distance from the front door, as close contact is best avoided.

DIY assembly

The sliding wardrobe, like most of the overall furniture, is delivered by loaders unassembled. You will have to pay for the assembly of the cabinet separately, but if you want to save money, you can do it yourself.

It is worth noting that the first time something may not work out for you, and the process will have to be done again, in addition, the assembly can take you a whole day, while the professionals will do everything in a couple of hours. But if this skill is useful to you in the future, or you just want to pass the time, step-by-step instructions will help you.

We will look at the assembly of a standard cabinet cabinet. You will need a screwdriver, screwdriver, hex wrench and tape measure.

The task is simplified by the fact that any cabinet should have assembly instructions. All items found in the package are numbered, and if you follow the correct sequence, according to the instructions, there should be no problems.

  • All furniture parts must be unpacked without damaging the surface with a knife. To avoid scratching the flooring and the cabinet itself, use the packaging as a bedding.
  • First, start assembling the base, for this, furniture corners or conformity are usually used. Other options are also possible - dowels and minifixes.
  • When the base is attached to the bottom, nails are hammered onto it as a support.
  • Now you can proceed to the assembly of the case, only it is important not to confuse the bottom and top. Everything is simple here - make sure that the holes for the shelves and for attaching the bar are opposite each other.
  • During the assembly process, make sure that all parts are securely fixed and do not wobble, otherwise the fasteners may break in the future and expensive repairs will have to be done.
  • When the case is ready, attach the bottom and top cover to it.
  • For a secure fit and stiffening, use nails to attach the back wall. If it is made of fiberboard, which cannot be called a reliable material, use self-tapping screws and a construction stapler.

To make sure that all the corners of the cabinet are even and do not slant, insert a diagonal into the box - the distance between the corners should be directly proportional.

  • If suddenly the furniture is assembled a little unevenly, it will stand crookedly, and the doors will not close tightly, then over time they will begin to roll back completely when closed.
  • Once the base is assembled, the shelf holders and drawer rails can be installed.
  • Attach the shelves to the holders, install the drawers and a bar for hangers.
  • Now it was the turn of the compartment doors. First, you need to fix the guides by drilling one hole at the edges, and two in the middle, using a drill of a suitable diameter (most often 4 mm).
  • Using self-tapping screws, fix the rail along which the future doors will move.
  • First, it is better to fix only the upper rail, insert the doors into it, set the indent of the lower rail from the cabinet so that the door does not look askew, but is installed strictly vertically. Only then can the lower part be fixed by temporarily removing the door.
  • When inserting the compartment doors into securely fixed guides, first put the upper part into the grooves, and then the lower one. Adjust the tilt using the hexagon.
  • You will immediately understand if the rails are fixed correctly - the flaps will close tightly on both sides.
  • In the end, all that remains is to stick on the sealing brushes. Avoid touching the areas where you will be applying the glue, as grease from your palms will impair hold.

To make it easier for you to complete the assembly, follow the diagram proposed in the article, as well as the video below, and you will succeed!

Interesting solutions

In a narrow long corridor leading to the room, you can install a built-in linear wardrobe, and nearby you can place shoe shelves, which will also play the role of benches, where it is convenient to lace and fasten shoes, especially for children and the elderly.

Having given preference to light walls, choose a red wardrobe, which will become a bright spot in the interior of the hallway.

The modular system looks very impressive, including a small wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a hanger and a shelf for shoes. The truffle shade gives the wood a special nobility, it will be an ideal solution for an interior in gray and white tones.
