Construction floodlights are devices that allow you to ensure the safety of construction sites, various in power, type of lighting and installation method. On sale you can find LED on a tripod and other devices.

Classification of building floodlights

It is impossible to write in a short publication everything about construction projectors, since the assortment of supermarkets and markets contains numerous samples of industrial products designed for plots of different sizes and the needs of the consumer. Many of them are only suitable for supplying light at night in summer cottages and areas designated for individual residential buildings. But there are also worthy samples for lighting the territory of industrial enterprises and construction sites, economical in terms of energy consumption, powerful and easy to install.

Lighting devices are so diverse that it is impossible to draw up a classification that would reflect all the distinguishing features and characteristics. Therefore, when choosing and making recommendations, separate principles of differentiation are taken into account.

By design, there are long-range, flood, signal and accent spotlights. The choice is made according to the target orientation; in construction, flooding or directional ones are often used.

Searchlights can be classified according to other criteria.

  1. By the type of lamps used for lighting. The searchlight can be LED, xenon, mercury, plasma, metal halide, sodium.

  2. At the place of operation. Indoors, outdoors, in the water.

  3. For protection from external factors. This is an important parameter for a construction spotlight. Protection against liquid ingress, penetration of solid objects. Moreover, in either case, it can be variable protection against certain damage or a level that allows you not to worry about safety.

  4. By installation method. There are different options that are offered to the consumer - on a pole, on a clamp, on a tripod. The choice of mounting method or fixture for installation depends on the existing need and the illuminated space.

And a few more important criteria - shape, power, auxiliary functions and economy. It is clear that large construction projects will need powerful lamps that can turn off during daylight hours.

But 500 W models, with all the advantages and excellent illumination level, will require considerable expenses for the owner of the construction site.

Criterias of choice

There are many universal recommendations, but they cannot cover all the requirements that are in a particular case. Therefore, you need to be guided by individual needs.

  • Construction site floodlight, especially with large-scale sizes and a large need for lighting (this is important not only for the protection of expensive materials, but also for ensuring the safety of people on it) should be selected in accordance with GOST 12.046-85. However, lighting can get by with less overhead purchases to ensure regulatory compliance. For this purpose, it is better to choose economical and powerful diffusing projectors made using new technologies, with a good class of protection against external influences.

  • For construction on the territory intended for individual housing construction or a country house, floodlights with unusual functions will come in handy - mobile, moisture and dust resistant, lightweight aluminum structures, with motion sensors.
  • For a small space with suburban buildings you can choose low-power square economical lamps that will sufficiently illuminate a small area. The ideal option is square LED spotlights on a tripod, which can be relocated to a closed house at the end of the summer season. If the lighting is used infrequently, you can save money and buy plastic.

Experts advise not to save on new equipment - a motion sensor, which is not cheap, quickly pays off. The aluminum case lasts a long time, and the plastic one burns. Protection from external damage will allow you not to worry about changing lighting for the entire period that the construction lasts.

Calculation of spotlight lighting

SNiP 23-05-2010 provides for the illumination of the workplace at a level of at least 300 lux, but the calculations are carried out with a margin, since the luminous flux from the lamp tends to decrease after a certain time of operation. The equipment of the sites is made at a height and from several sides to ensure full illumination and no shadow.

Correct calculation involves the calculation of several parameters.

The length of the unlit area is obtained by the formula:

L = h / (tg (Ɵ + βb))

The minimum height to which the floodlights are raised required to obtain the desired degree of illumination, - according to another formula:

H = Ѵ (Imax / 300) = Ѵ (50,000/300) = 12.9≈13 m

Some parameters can be calculated only knowing the area of the site and individual parameters. You need to know the technical data of the spotlights, the type of installed lamp and other nuances.

Some difficulty for the average man in the street can be multi-row formulas and the use of calculation tables. Therefore, it is better to entrust the calculations to specialists in this field.
