Euro-size sheets

Euro-size sheets
  1. Peculiarities
  2. Size selection
  3. General Tips

Due to its highest quality, bed linen made in the European Union countries is becoming more and more popular on the Russian market. The main problem of the kits from the EU is the fact that the size standards adopted by the Union regulations differ significantly from the regulated Russian GOST standards, which are familiar to the domestic consumer. It is worth considering what are the accepted European sizes of the sheet and how not to be mistaken with the selection of a set for your mattress.

Peculiarities

Despite the existence of regulatory documents, not all European manufacturers strictly adhere to the established standards. Most often, the following standard sizes will correspond to kits made in Italy, France and Poland. Lingerie from German manufacturers can correspond to both European sizes and Russian GOST 31307-2005, which came into force in 2007.

When choosing a set, you should pay attention to the fact that the dimensions on it can be indicated both in the usual centimeters, and in inches. Most often, such markings are found on the products of manufacturers from the UK, as well as on kits intended for export to the United States.

To convert the dimensions indicated in inches to centimeters, it is enough to multiply their values by 2.54.

Another important nuance of completing European linen is that instead of the usual sheets, it often includes a variant with an elastic band, which can be tightly attached to the mattress. The presence of such a product is indicated on the label as fitted sheets.

Another variant of the product with an elastic band, which has a decorative fringe that hangs down to the floor, is marked with the designation fitted valance. All bedding sets produced in the EU correspond to one of the standardized sizes. Let's consider each of them in more detail.

Baby bed

This linen is designed for baby cots. Sometimes such kits are marked with the Crib designation. The standard size of the sheet in them is 120 x 170 cm, and in cases where the set is supplied with a product with an elastic band, its dimensions will be 60 x 120 cm.

Single / Twin

This standard corresponds to the classic one-bedroom set. The size of an ordinary product in it is 183 x 274 cm.In the case when the set includes a variant with an elastic band, its dimensions will be 90 x 190 cm.

Double

Lingerie of this size is a familiar double set. Sometimes, instead of Double on sets of the same dimensions, the designation Full is found. The size of the euro sheet belonging to this type will be exactly 229 x 274 cm.In cases where instead of the usual product there is a variant with an elastic band, its dimensions will be 140 x 190 cm.

King

These sets are maxi versions of a double set. They are designed for large beds. The Euro sheet in this version will have a format of 274 x 297 cm.A product with an elastic band that meets this standard will have dimensions of 150 x 200 cm.

Queen

This option is the largest of all available European bed sizes and is designed for particularly luxurious and huge beds. The format of an ordinary sheet for him is 305 x 320 cm.The product with an elastic band will be 180 x 200 cm in size.

Non-European "Eurostandards"

Sometimes it happens that the Euro label is applied to goods manufactured outside the European Union - namely in China, Turkey and Russia. Such products have a slightly different format. If you see the inscription "European standard" on the packaging, and the country of origin is not related to the EU, the dimensions of the sheet in the kit can be:

  • 220 x 250 cm;
  • 230 x 250 cm;
  • 220 x 240 cm;
  • 240 x2 60 cm;
  • 260 x 270 cm.

Sometimes there are kits labeled "Euromaxi". They are most often produced in China and Turkey, and the sizes of the sheets in them can be as follows:

  • 240 x 270 cm;
  • 245 x 270 cm;
  • 260 x 280 cm;
  • 270 x 310 cm;
  • 290 x 310 cm.

Having seen the inscription "Euro", you should carefully study the packaging of the product and the size indicated on it - otherwise there is a possibility that you will be very wrong in your choice.

Size selection

A simple formula will help you not to be mistaken with the size of the purchased kit, defining the minimum parameters of the sheet suitable for your mattress:

  • the length of the sheet should be no less than the sum of the length of your mattress and its height;
  • the width of the purchased product is at least the sum of the length of the mattress and its doubled height.

These ratios are due to the fact that the sheet must be folded under the edges of the mattress for reliable fixation. Otherwise, it will fidget on its surface and crumple, which will significantly reduce the comfort of your sleep.

These ratios are also preserved for variants of sheets with an elastic band - the only difference is that in this case it is not worth taking a set with a large size "in reserve", since it will not be possible to fold the excess material under the mattress.

For a mattress measuring 180x210 cm with a thickness of 20 cm, the required dimensions are:

  • length: 210 + 20 = 230 cm.
  • width: 180 +40 = 220 cm.

When choosing the sizes of the kits, do not forget to take into account the peculiarities of the material from which the product is made. If it contains a significant amount of cotton, then after several washes, especially in too hot water, the kit may shrink noticeably. Sets of fabrics containing cotton, such as coarse calico or satin, are best taken with a small margin in size.

And vice versa, it is better to buy kits made of linen, synthetic fabrics, as well as materials containing silk exactly according to the size of your bed, because if you follow all the rules of care, they practically do not decrease even after several years of use.

General Tips

For a comfortable and restorative sleep, it is not enough just to choose the right size of bedding. Attention should also be paid to its other characteristics. So, if you choose a set for a crib, then the material must be exclusively natural - otherwise allergies and irritations are possible. Kits for adults are best purchased from fabrics with a balanced content of natural materials and synthetics.

All edges of the sheet should be well stitched, preferably double stitched. Otherwise, they will wear out very quickly. It is also worth looking at the linen, in the light - so you can immediately assess the density of the material and the uniformity of its structure. The more noticeable irregularities there are in the underwear, the less comfortable it will be to sleep on it, there will be more chances that it will quickly become unusable.

Pay attention not only to the front, but also to the seamy side of the kit you are buying. If the color of the wrong side is not very different from the color of the front side, the set is of good quality. You should not take products in too bright colors and with very variegated prints - they fade faster, and at the same time can negatively affect your sleep. This is especially true for kits purchased for small children.

When the dimensions and material of the kit are not indicated on the package, then buying such a product is not worth it. It can have a completely non-standard size and be made of harmful or low-quality fabrics.
