None of the printers released in the entire history is immune from the appearance of light, dark and / or color stripes during the printing process. No matter how technically perfect this device is, the reason lies either in the out of ink, or in the malfunction of any of the components.

Possible reasons

If the problem is not lightened, but, on the contrary, "bold" lines and paragraphs - test the work of all the modules listed above.

What to do?

You can remove streaks during printing using the following methods. It is more expedient to adhere to such a schedule of actions.

  • Checking the ink (toner) cartridge is full. Open the printer properties to check the ink levels. In Windows 10, give the command "Start - Control Panel - Devices and Printers", select your device and run one more command: right-click on the icon of the device under test - "Printing Preferences". The Set Print Properties and Troubleshooter software opens. On the "Service" tab, use the "Special Settings" utility - all information will be shown, including a report on the possible toner level (or ink levels). If the toner level (or ink levels) drops to the minimum (or zero) mark, you will need to refill or purchase a new cartridge (or new cartridges).
  • Check the cartridge for leaks. Place a napkin or paper on top and shake it. Spilled ink or spilled toner indicates a leaking cartridge, which must be replaced. If the seal is intact, reinstall the cartridge - most likely, it is intact and functional.
  • Make sure the inkjet cable is intact. It should not be pinched anywhere. Not every user will be able to assess his condition, as well as change it. A faulty loop is replaced at the office equipment service center.
  • Check air filters. A clogged filter with ink stuck in it does not allow air to pass through well or not at all. Darkened streaks appear on the sheet when printing. Change the filter to a new one.
  • When white streaks appear with blurry fonts and graphic linesmaking it difficult to read (eyes are overstrained), the encoder film must be cleaned. It is a semi-darkened tape along the print carriage. The belt is cleaned with a non-abrasive detergent. Do not use solvents - this will erase the markings. It is permissible to use pure alcohol or vodka without sugar additives.
  • If the print head is dirty or has air bubbles, it needs to be cleaned. In Canon printers, the print head is built into the cartridge. If the head cannot be cleaned, the cartridge must be replaced. Head cleaning is performed in several steps. It is necessary to insert paper into the receiving tray (you can use it, with an empty second side), enter the already familiar settings tool on a PC or laptop, run the "Clean printhead" utility. After the printer attempts to clean this head, run the Nozzle Check utility and then Nozzle Check. If the attempt is unsuccessful, repeat the same operations up to two times (the whole cycle). After 3 hours, print a test page - you will immediately see if the printer is striping.

Software cleaning of the print head and its components will not work on some Canon multifunction devices - their operating sequence differs from the algorithm of conventional printers.

Cleaning the channels of the printing device is done only manually. With the ineffectiveness of complete cleaning (software and physical), suspicion falls on completely inoperative parts that need urgent replacement. Canon and HP printers are good in that not the entire printing mechanism is completely replaced, but only the cartridge.

Helpful hints

Do not use acetone, dichloroethane, or water to clean the print head. Water should not get on it - a wet head prints with streaks, and synthetic solvents that soften plastic and other polymers will simply ruin its coating. It is recommended to use either a special cleaner (sold in the office supplies department) recommended by the manufacturers, or a glass cleaner.

In addition to checking the ink level, if your printer uses black and white toner, it is recommended that you check the level of used powder in the secondary compartment of the cartridge. The coloring matter in such a powder is almost completely absent, which means that it will not be possible to use it again for printing., and the cartridge is designed in such a way that it will not wake up back into the hopper of unused toner. And in this case, the cartridge must also be replaced.

Do not transport or move the printer from place to place unless absolutely necessary. This sometimes causes the carriage in the print head to move. Using a separate utility in the Canon service settings, the carriage calibration is restored.

Use of non-proprietary ink - due to the high cost of proprietary (recommended by Canon), users are required to regularly clean the nozzles and other moves of the print head. The fact is that "third-party" ink sometimes dries several times faster. Office printers, since they often and in large quantities print all kinds of documents, do not face the problem of ink drying (unless the cartridge has lost its sealing). For a home printer that can be idle for up to several weeks, ink drying is one of the most common problems.
