A person is able to experience a huge range of feelings: both pleasant and not very. One of the most pleasant and refreshing sensations, undoubtedly, is the feeling of a fresh, clean and warm bed in which we lay down after a hard day at work. Of course, the quality of the bed on which we sleep plays an important role. However, many people forget about bed linen, which can make the rest much more pleasant, relaxing and cozy.

There is a wide variety of bedding sets on the market today: from plain natural fabrics to synthetic coverings with fun patterns. But do not forget that it is important not only to choose the right covering for your bed, but to store it correctly and compactly in your apartment.

Life time

First you need to figure out how long the bedding can be stored. This primarily depends on what material (fabric) it is made of. The second important factor for the durability of the linen is the washing characteristics (how often, by what means, and so on).

So, flannel sheets and duvet covers will last no more than five years. Calico products will last two years more (up to seven years). Natural materials like cotton and linen can last up to nine years. Artificial materials (for example, satin) please with their service life - they can be stored in a closet or dressing room for 10 years. Natural silk is considered to be the most durable, the service life of products made from it is 15 years.

Primary requirements

Despite the fact that at the moment there are a large number of ways, correct and durable storage of bed linen is based on some principles:

  • store only washed and dried linen (we put dirty linen not in the closet, but in the washing machine);
  • coatings must be well-groomed and neat (hemmed, ironed);
  • it is appropriate to place some kind of fragrance in the place of storage of bed linen, which will give a fresh scent.

Where to store it?

In fact, the storage space for bedding can be determined by your choice and preference. For example, it can be folded into a regular closet where clothes are stored, having previously set aside several shelves specifically for linen.

For more compactness and accuracy, you can use special boxes or baskets, which can be purchased at any store that sells household goods. You can also use a chest of drawers or large bedside tables for this purpose.

If your home has an acute shortage of storage space, then you can store your bedding in special storage units for a sofa or bed.

It is important to note that in places where laundry is stored, there should be no high humidity and sudden temperature fluctuations.and should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Otherwise, your bed cover will become moldy, odorless, discolored (yellow) and deteriorate.

Ventilate storage areas regularly to avoid the appearance of moths.

KonMari method

KonMari (or Mari Kondo) is a professional cleaning house. To ensure high quality bedding preservation, she suggests using simple tips.

  • Store bed linen on separate shelves, and not together with other things (for example, clothes).This is due to the difference in the materials from which things are made, respectively, they need different care.
  • The coverings must be folded in the shape of a rectangle or triangle.
  • Items can be folded both horizontally and vertically, which saves space in the closet, chest of drawers or on the shelves.
  • It is convenient to divide the linen by color or material.

Useful Tips

In order to keep your bed linen as long as possible, you should:

  • change kits at least once every 7 days;
  • wash things in compliance with all instructions on the manufacturer's label;
  • dry products in the fresh air (at least in a ventilated area);
  • store linen inside out;
  • store pillowcases, duvet covers and sheets separately;
  • in cases of storing sets of linen in one place, wrap sheets and duvet covers with a pillowcase (you can also tie a set of linen with a ribbon or string for convenience);
  • to divide sets of underwear according to the season: separately - lighter and summer ones, separately - winter ones;
  • use specially designed fragrances, soaps or herbs to give the laundry a pleasant and fresh scent.
