Nothing will demonstrate the atmosphere of home comfort like stylish bedspreads and Euro-size blankets. Soft, beautiful, pleasant to the touch accessories are found in almost every home today. They stand out favorably against the background of the usual standard counterparts and have a number of advantages.

Features and Benefits

Bedspreads and rugs of European size are spacious canvases that cover the surface of the berth on top and on the sides. At one time, the size "Euro" was called royal, which meant spacious dimensions and maximum comfort. Few people know that the size of the "euro" is not a specific parameter, but a number of spacious dimensions.

Conventionally, there are two lines that are part of the "Euro" group: Eurostandard and Euromaxi.

The size range of the rulers looks like this:

  • standard models - 200x200, 220x240 and 240x260 cm;
  • euro-maxi - 230x250, 260x260, 260x280, 250x250, 280x280 cm.

Today, you can often hear not “Euro size bedspreads”, but “Euro size bed covers (sofa)”. Trademarks diluted the size range of European sizes with a mass of standard parameters, adding not only adults, but also children's models. In fact, "euro" is a size that is different from the usual standard counterparts for a double bed.

Initially, they were developed for a specific parameter of furniture, but due to the varying dimensions of furniture of individual brands produced as standards, they expanded the size range. Thanks to this, you can choose the option as accurately as possible according to the size of the bed, taking into account the allowances for the hanging of the material on each side (in addition to the back at the head).

Euro size blankets and bedspreads are functional furniture accessories and can:

  • protect the surface of the bed from mechanical damage, dirt, dust;
  • to give the surface of the bed, sofa a neat and elegant appearance;
  • create the right atmosphere conducive to relaxation, being independent accents of the room or complementing for greater harmony with pillows of a similar style of identical texture;
  • depending on the texture of the material and filler used, replace a light blanket, covering the user's body during sleep;
  • transform into a cocoon sweater, enveloping the owner sitting in an armchair or sofa, bed;
  • turn into a cozy carpet - a play area for a baby, mastering the first steps.

According to the method of production, such bedspreads and blankets are divided into several categories and can be:

  • wovenmade of textiles (one or more layers, as well as an additional layer for ennobling the shape or warming the product);
  • non-wovenmade by pressing fibers of different materials;
  • knitted, which are multi-textured yarn fabrics (made by means of a hook, knitting needles or a knitting machine);
  • fur, which are single-sided or double-sided products with the possibility of using each side as a regular cover or blanket.

Such accessories have a lot of advantages. They:

  • are made from hypoallergenic raw materials of various origins (natural, artificial, mixed), allowing each customer to choose the option they want, taking into account their preferences;
  • can indicate a general design idea, set off or emphasize contrasting style combinations, be a bunch of interior items of different colors;
  • have a wide variety of textures, thanks to which you can bring a feeling of warmth, premium quality, and special taste into the room;
  • depending on the shade and size of the pattern, they are able to create the illusion of the space of the room (it is important for small-sized types of rooms in which every centimeter of usable area is valuable);
  • with a skillful choice, they are able to fit into any style of the room, without violating the integrity of the composition and without drawing all attention to themselves;
  • are universal household items and can look harmoniously in the interior of a bedroom, living room, teenager's room, a spacious loggia and even a kitchen area in the design of a studio apartment;
  • are carried out in a massive way on professional equipment or are made at home using improvised means;
  • bring novelty to a boring interior, allowing you to get by with less costs than a complete change of scenery;
  • closing the bedding allows you not to restrict the user in choosing the colors of bed linen;
  • are a welcome gift to relatives or friends for a celebration, therefore they help out the buyer in the search for a gift theme.

The benefits of Euro size wool models

Products for a spacious bed, made of natural wool or mixed fibers, are unique in their healing properties. Such bedspreads and blankets contain a natural antiseptic lanolin, due to which the product has anti-inflammatory properties. If the user is not allergic to wool and regularly uses such blankets as a blanket, they are capable of:

  • maintain a constant "correct" temperature regime, not allowing the body to overheat or cool;
  • due to the high hygroscopicity and the ability to absorb a third of their weight, they relieve the user of excess moisture, quickly absorbing it and immediately giving it to the air;
  • cure prickly heat, remove toxins from the body, do not allow the spread of unpleasant odors;
  • strengthen immunity, having a beneficial effect on the work of the nervous system, restoring blood flow;
  • to accelerate the process of a person's recovery from colds, bruises, sprains;
  • relieve muscle tension, relaxing the user's body, which eliminates morning soreness of the whole body, general malaise.

Minuses

Euro-size blankets and bedspreads are quite spacious, but this affects the cost. Typically, these accessories cost much more than their average size counterparts. In most cases, expensive raw materials are used in their production, even when it comes to manual work. Not every type of bedspread easily tolerates washing, and especially sharp mechanical spinning movements. For example, the structure of fur fibers does not withstand such manipulations, which leads to a decrease in the distance between hollow fibers, changing the texture (the product loses its splendor).

Materials (edit)

Materials for bedspreads and rugs of the European size are fabrics, fur, yarn, compressed fiber and filler used as a lining of the product. Each company specializes in a specific type of material. Typically, brands try to use high-quality material with high-level performance characteristics in their production.

Fabrics

The range of raw materials for the production of blankets and bedspreads is diverse. The characteristics of the fabric allow you to create a different effect in the interior, achieving the desired atmosphere. The most popular fabrics of European size blankets and bedspreads are:

  • cotton and satin;
  • tapestry;
  • velvet;
  • velours;
  • silk;
  • cashmere;
  • microfiber;
  • viscose;
  • plush;
  • fleece;
  • wool;
  • bamboo;
  • softcotton;
  • polyamide;
  • acrylic.

Each fabric has strengths and weaknesses.Cotton and natural models are environmentally friendly, but short-lived, an acrylic blanket is durable, but forms pellets, a woolen blanket has excellent warmth, but shrinks after washing. To find a balance between practicality and durability of the finished product, blended fabrics are often used in production. Thanks to this approach, finished products are less capricious in care and have a longer service life.

Excipients

The cushioning material is used as a heater and to add texture. In the first case, the technique adds functionality to the product, allowing it to be used as a blanket, in the second, it increases the quality characteristics and makes the product more attractive.

The filler can be used for textured stitches. Usually, in the manufacture of a product, a synthetic winterizer of different densities is used (the higher, the thicker and more textured the blanket), although sometimes cotton-wool and polyester are used in production. The first type of raw material consists of blended cotton and synthetic polyester fibers with excellent thermoregulation and hygroscopicity. Polyester is quite lightweight, bulky, retains heat if necessary.

Lining

The lining of bedspreads and blankets is needed to add softness and warmth. It is not used in all models (for example, blankets made of bulky and soft fleece do not need it). Often in production, thin sliding textiles are used as a lining, which is inconvenient in operation, has the property of being magnetized and giving off a static discharge. Quality and comfort brands try to use material with mixed fibers, so the bedspread will not have a magnetic effect and will not be able to slide off the surface of the bed if accidentally touched.

Colors and patterns

Color solutions of blankets and bedspreads are multifaceted, as are the shades themselves. Usually, the choice of color follows a general design theme: it can be an identical shade or an unobtrusive contrast. Acid and poisonous paints are excluded, which can break any idea into misunderstood spots and scattered objects.

Shades of bedspreads and blankets can be any, from monochrome to rich. Today, the focus is on practicality, which is why white is used exclusively with a print.

In addition, when buying, you should avoid strong colors that have a negative effect on the user's mood (for example, uncompromising irritating reds or depressing blacks that oppress any impulse).

The most popular shades of bedspreads and blankets are beige, sand, coral, peach, terracotta tones of the color palette and ecru (pale gray-yellow, the color of unbleached linen). In addition to them, pastel shades are popular (pink, lilac, blue, mint, turquoise, lemon, light green). The bright range includes purple, gold, chocolate, white-burgundy and fuchsia colors.

The theme of patterns is varied and follows the idea of design. The most popular patterns of rugs and bedspreads in the euro size include:

  • floral and plant motifs;
  • Japanese sketches;
  • animal print;
  • geometric compositions;
  • abstraction;
  • ethnic sketches;
  • lace elements;
  • glamor notes;
  • imitation patchwork.

Photo printing has faded into the background today: models with a texture pattern are in fashion.

Decor

Decorating techniques for decorating bedspreads and rugs of European size are diverse. The large size of the canvas allows you to create different patterns using different methods of decorating the canvas. The décor can be modest, for example, in the form of matching stitches or in contrast to the base material. In other cases, brands use frills, flounces, ruffles, bows, lace braid, decorating the product on three or four sides with an openwork border with folds or corrugated fabric. In addition, the product can be decorated with fringes, tassels, pom-poms, satin ribbon.

An interesting decoration technique is the creation of a pattern in the form of a bouquet of flowers using a stitch representing the stems and the inflorescences themselves from multilayer satin patches. In order not to disturb the harmony of design, the material is selected in the same color scheme as the base of the bedspread and complements the product with two pillows in the same style.

Machine embroidery is a good design technique. Today it consists of small fragments on a textile basis. Thanks to silk threads, it stands out against the general background, looks harmonious and appropriate.

How to choose?

The choice of a blanket or bedspread of the European size is not a difficult task. However, before buying, you need to measure the dimensions of the length and width of the bed, as well as its height (distance to the floor). It is important to take into account the model of the bed (sofa), because the general appearance will depend on this (the canvas should not tuck if its size is larger than necessary). If there is no back at the head, double the distance to the floor minus 4 - 5 cm is added to the length and width parameters (the parameter is measured taking into account the mattress). If there is a back, add 40 cm to the length of the bedspread or plaid.

The minimum side edges must be at least 30 cm, otherwise the illusion will be created that the size of the rug or bedspread does not correspond to the furniture and is chosen at random.

Having decided on the size, it is worth keeping in mind the theme of the room's design. The product must match the style, this is important for any type of room.

We must not forget about the texture: thin textile models wrinkle, they do not always look presentable. It is better if they have padding polyester insulation and a stitch.

If the product is made of fur, it is more advisable to purchase a version with fur and textile sides: this will add warmth to the model and ensure greater comfort in use as a blanket.

In addition, it is worth taking note of a few tips to simplify the purchase of a quality product:

  • the presence of a certificate of quality and compliance with hygiene standards, as well as the seller's guarantees are mandatory: this indicates the seriousness of the company and the high level of product performance;
  • it is desirable to unpack the goods (a quality product has a label with information about the manufacturer, its legal address, recommendations for care and the composition of the material used), so you can check the product for manufacturing defects;
  • the color of the model should not completely copy the shade of the curtains: colors that are close in tone are welcome;
  • the shade and style can be matched to the existing interior items, a combination with the shade of furniture facades is allowed;
  • for a luxurious baroque design, dense fabrics with heavy fittings are welcome;

If the canvas is replete with decor, there should not be a lot of objects in the room.

Care rules

The care instructions for each type of Euro-size canvas are different. If these are fur products, they are more capricious in their care: often they cannot be washed at all, because the fur suffers from this. These products are designed for dry brushing. In most cases, upon contact with water, their structure changes, which negatively affects the premium appearance.

Euro size textiles are washable. If they are thin, such products are placed in a washing machine and can withstand washing on a delicate cycle at a temperature of no more than 30-40 degrees.

When washing, do not exceed the dosage of detergent and select a powerful spin mode: this can lead to the formation of yellow spots and violate the integrity of the weave of the threads.

Drying of large bedspreads or rugs depends on the thickness of the product and the composition of the material. Thin canvases are not deformed when upright. Wool or cashmere blankets should be dried horizontally. Heating devices must not be used: drying must be natural. Accelerating the "drying" of the material can lead to the formation of an unpleasant swamp odor and the compaction of the fibers.

Periodically, bedspreads and rugs need to be ventilated in the fresh air: this will relieve them of caking and moisture, which is found in most types of rooms.

Beautiful ideas in the interior

To understand what type of product is best to buy, you can look at the ideas of experienced designers. This will allow you to understand in which style it is better to fit this or that model.

With lilac and white

A model made of textiles with fine stitching is perfect for a bedroom in lilac and white tones. Light pink and green shades will bring cheerfulness and a feeling of comfort, small embroidery will fill the room with warmth. The light pink lampshade of the table lamp and fresh flowers with fresh greenery, located on a round table, will help to support the bedspread. A small summer-themed painting framed with a white frame will perfectly fit into the design.

With monochrome shades

A bedroom in monochrome tones with sand-colored linoleum and a beige bed can be decorated with a luxurious bedspread with lace and frill forming a fluffy skirt. Such an emphasis will not overload the overall design idea, however, the product will look better in a set with pillows of a similar style. To make the room look lively colors, it is better to choose a milky color model: the abundance of monochrome tones brings boredom and despair.

With elements of luxury

An interior with elements of pomp can be decorated with a luxurious spacious bedspread with a real picture, bordered with golden lace patterns. Moreover, for the product to look harmonious in the interior of a room with beige wallpaper and curtains of a similar shade, it is enough that one of the shades of the canvas is close to them in tone. A beautiful background will support the warm color combinations of the color palette, and due to the mutedness it will not look puffy against the background of carved furniture with gilding.
