For a pleasant and healthy sleep, not only a bed and a mattress are important - a pillow is an indispensable attribute for a good night's rest. One of the best options is a camel wool pillow, which will not only help you sleep, but will also help maintain health, beauty and youth.

A bedding set with unique properties

Camel's wool is usually obtained from the two-humped "ships of the desert" Bactrians - the largest representatives of their family, also distinguished by the thickest coat. The main feature of this camel is its two humps, which are the main "suppliers" of wool.

Camels are bred in many countries, but the most valuable wool is the one that is given by the Mongolian Bactrians.

Features, pros and cons of filler

Like the wool of any animal, camel is divided into several types. Down is considered the most valuable. The peculiarity of this wool lies in the structure of the hair - it is hollow from the inside, which makes it unusually light and soft. In addition, this natural material contains large quantities of lanolin, an animal wax that has a positive effect on human well-being.

Due to the peculiarities of camel wool, pillows with such a filler have many advantages:

  • They do not attract dust and dirt, create a natural barrier that protects the sleeper from electromagnetic fields (neutralize the effects of static materials and electricity).
  • Pillow wicks moisture easily (sweat generated during sleep) and then evaporates it just as easily.
  • These products are very light and soft.
  • Camel wool does not lose its qualities for a very long time, therefore, a product with such a filler, if properly used, will be very durable.
  • Lanolin protects wool from more than just dirt, but also from the development of various bacteria and microorganisms harmful to humans.
  • Camel's fur allows air to pass throughhelping to keep cool in summer and warm in winter.

As for the impact on human health, the beneficial properties of camel down were appreciated by the ancient Egyptians. Pillows with this filling contribute to:

  • Softening the nasopharyngeal mucosa during sleep, they prevent the penetration of pathogenic bacteria into the body.
  • Expansion of blood vessels and capillaries, due to which blood circulation improves, and tissues and muscles receive more oxygen. This has a positive effect on the skin: its color improves, the risk of wrinkles is reduced.
  • Elimination of toxins from the bodyaccumulated during the day.
  • Getting rid of regular headaches and chronic fatigue.

In addition, camel hair helps to relieve back pain, joint and muscle pain.

The disadvantages of woolen camel pillows most often include the following:

  • Wool falls off quickly if not properly cared for, and it is almost impossible to return it to its previous state. Such a pillow becomes unusable.
  • Camel fluff can be favored by dust mites, which cause allergies. By the way, this issue is still not fully understood, and scientists cannot say that these mites can start in the filler.
  • Quite high cost products.

In addition, speaking about the shortcomings of desert animal fluff fillers, it is worth noting several misconceptions that sometimes confuse people:

  • Misconception # 1... Bad smell. Camel's wool has a specific sweetish aroma, but as a result of processing it practically disappears. When it comes to a quality product, you can only smell it if you have a hypersensitive sense of smell.
  • Misconception # 2. It is very hot to sleep on such pillows; They are really warm, but their warmth is "dry". The properties of the material allow it to absorb moisture, leaving the surface dry and retaining heat.
  • Misconception # 3. The camel's hair is prickly. The down used in the manufacture of bedding is very delicate and does not have "thorns". If a coarser wool is used as a filler, then it can really tingle. However, if properly processed, this "prickle" even provides a pleasant massage effect, and does not cause discomfort.

Important! There are few minuses, but they should be taken into account before buying a pillow filled with wool from the "ship of the desert".

What is better than sheep wool and bamboo?

The main "competitors" of camel wool fillers are materials such as sheep wool and bamboo... However, even over these natural materials, camel down has undoubted advantages. Both bamboo and wool fillers absorb moisture quickly enough. The structural features of animal fluff allow this moisture to evaporate later, but cellulose does not have this property. Bamboo pillows get wet quickly and take a very long time to dry.

In addition, the bamboo fibers inside the pillow can become deformed, resulting in a gradual loss of volume. It is impossible to restore the integrity of the bamboo filler, while the woolen filler is whipped enough to make the pillow again fluffy and soft. As for the comparison of camel and sheep wool, they are very similar in their qualities, but the former is much lighter, warmer and stronger.

Indications and contraindications

Of course, the choice of filler for a pillow is a matter of taste and financial possibilities. However, there are categories of people who are recommended by professional doctors to use products with camel down for sleep. These include people:

  • with diseases of the peripheral nervous system (neuralgia, neuropathy, and others);
  • with rheumatism;
  • with sciatica;
  • with various types of arthrosis;
  • with arthritis;
  • with osteochondrosis and some orthopedic diseases;
  • diseases of the ENT organs;
  • with skin dermatological diseases.

In addition, these pillows are perfect for people with impaired blood supply and a weakened immune system. Despite the widespread belief that lanolin can be harmful to asthmatics, in some cases, doctors still recommend that people suffering from this disease use camel pillows to sleep. Experts also question the orthopedic properties of products with such a filler. They are considered to be too soft to support the neck and head well enough during sleep. Therefore, the use of such pillows is not recommended for those who suffer from neck pain.

How to choose?

It is clear that only natural camel wool has all the healing properties and advantages. Therefore, when choosing a pillow with such a filler, it is important to carefully assess the quality and naturalness of the material. It is worth remembering that the natural fluff of the "ships of the desert":

  • much easier artificial options;
  • very soft, delicate and smooth to touch;
  • when burning emits a specific "animal" smell.

Of course, it is unlikely that they will allow you to set fire to the fibers in the store, but everyone can feel and evaluate the weight.

It is worth carefully examining the label. It must necessarily indicate "100% camel wool"... The inscription “camel wool” without specifying percentages may mean that the filler contains very little or no natural product. In order not to get a fake and not to waste a lot of money, experts recommend buying pillows only in proven places. In company stores, you can always not only study the filler in detail, but also get acquainted with all the quality certificates.

When buying, it should be borne in mind that modern manufacturers often offer combined (two-section) products. These pillows consist of a woolen top cover and a core of polyester fibers. The polyester component makes the bedding firmer and less allergenic. However, it does not interfere with the healing properties of fluff.

Such pillows are considered the most comfortable and practical today.

How to care?

It is believed that it is difficult to care for camel down pillows, but it is not:

  • Products with such a filler can be washed in a washing machine. The main thing is to follow a number of specific rules. You can wash only in the delicate wash mode, at a water temperature of no more than 300 C and without the "spin" function.
  • Handwash. It is preferable to machine. The process consists of pre-soaking for 15 minutes in warm water and gently wringing out. Before soaking, a detergent is added to the water and stirred until it is completely dissolved.

It is also necessary to rinse the product in warm water. If necessary, this procedure is repeated several times. Press the pillow with light longitudinal movements. When wringing, it must not be twisted under any circumstances, so as not to damage the wool fibers. Dry cleaning can also be used as an option for cleaning bedding. However, it should be borne in mind that this method greatly reduces the amount of lanolin and can lead to a deterioration in the quality of the product. It is not recommended to use this method too often. As for detergents for washing camel pillows, it is better to use those products that are intended for woolen products. The best option would be products with the addition of lanolin. You can use liquid detergents and shampoos.

Dry products with such a filler should be in rooms that are well ventilated, or on the street. But not in the sun! It is recommended to periodically dry the pillows between washes. To do this, they are placed on a flat horizontal surface and straightened well. They can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner or simply knocked out. To get the best effect from washing and drying, it is better to do it in the warm season.

It is necessary to ventilate the bedding even after purchase, before using it. This will help the litter oxygenate and straighten. Store pillows with wool in dry and well-ventilated areas, but not in plastic bags. At the same time, experts advise to limit exposure to direct sunlight. The use of removable covers is recommended for additional protection of products.

In addition, so that bedding does not lose its useful properties and softness longer, before and after use, they must be whipped from all sides. This procedure prevents caking of the coat and the formation of lumps.
