Garden furniture pillows: what to sew and stuff?

Garden furniture pillows: what to sew and stuff?
  1. Accessory requirements
  2. Material selection
  3. The form
  4. Filler
  5. What to consider?

In the search for accessories for maximum comfort, many people forget about such an item as an ordinary cushion. With a seemingly simple form, it can make your vacation more enjoyable. The use of such items in the country is especially important when it is necessary to correct the degree of comfort of plastic or wooden furniture.

Accessory requirements

Garden furniture pillows are somewhat different from conventional sofa counterparts.

Requirements for them are more stringent, they must:

  • be resistant to sunburn;
  • be distinguished by resistance to mechanical damage;
  • be resistant to deformation;
  • have persistent dyes that do not harm clothing;
  • differ in the stability of the filler structure in relation to weight loads.

    An important nuance is the absence of small decor, which can cause discomfort. Buttons, knitted braid, which can be accidentally caught on, are excluded.

    The bet should be made on pleasant colors and original shape. To make the product look as advantageous as possible, several identical pillows are made. The design of all chairs with the same accessories looks especially harmonious.

    Material selection

    The material for pillows and seat cushions is chosen based on a number of nuances. He must:

    • be pleasant to the body, but sufficiently dense and durable;
    • if possible, have blended threads (contain equally natural and synthetic fibers);
    • be distinguished by a special impregnation that provides moisture resistance;
    • be easy to care for;
    • to approach the landscape composition;
    • be hypoallergenic, otherwise the use of the product is impossible;
    • be aesthetically pleasing;
    • made in the form of a removable cover, allowing cleaning of the filler and washing of textiles.

      Leather and its synthetic counterparts are not suitable for the requirements. In the heat, they will cause discomfort to vacationers. An important indicator is the purpose of the pillow. If it is placed under the back, greater freedom of choice of material is allowed. If it is a mattress pillow or seat cushion, it should be made of thick textiles. For covers, you can use impregnated cotton, fleece, microfiber, tapestry, fiber, canvas or furniture fabric. Silk and linen are unacceptable, as they wrinkle. Silk breaks the texture on the very first day of operation (the appearance of puffs). It is necessary to exclude materials with long pile and fur: it is quite difficult to wash them.

      If there are rags at home, they are usually the ones they are trying to use. In this case, the fragments of the future pillow are selected so that the composition of the flaps is identical: this will exclude deformation of the tissue.

      In some cases, old jackets are used for pillows. Such a material no longer shrinks, and it performs not only an aesthetic function, but can also maintain heat.

      The form

      Often, furniture pillows and seats are made in the form of a square or rectangle. When choosing the shape of garden furniture accessories, you can start from the shape of the furniture. For the seat of chairs, it is more often a square, for the backs of benches - two or three square modules, for a lounger - a rectangle. Often, cushions are made for seats in the shape of a circle. Turkish pillows look interesting.

      Along with the classic forms, rollers are made, which complement models with armrests or mattresses. Such accessories allow you to sit more comfortably outdoors if you want, for example, to sunbathe or take a nap.Children are not ignored either. Pillows are made for them in the form of hearts, letters, flowers, candies and even toys made according to the principle of a tilde or a roller.

      Filler

      Different types of padding are used for garden pillows, mattresses and bolsters. A synthetic winterizer is usually used: it has an acceptable cost, is commercially available, creates volume with a small amount of raw materials. If the store has holofiber, you can use that as well. These pillows will be lightweight. However, they are not suitable for seat modules and even more so for mattresses, as they quickly compressed with regular use.

      It is not advisable to use polystyrene balls to fill the pillow. They are quite specific, since the balls move under a weight load, creating a sinking effect.

      This type of padding cannot be called pleasant to the touch. Even if you stuff the napernik with such a composition, you will not be able to use it for sitting and lying.

      Latex is the ideal material. Since the natural option is not so easy to get, you can buy an artificial one. This filler is used for stuffing mattresses, including orthopedic models. It does not puncture under significant and regular weight loads, is durable, does not rot over time and can be cleaned.

      If there is no such material in the store, you can buy regular foam rubber. However, its properties will be slightly worse. Its service life is less, but it will cope with its task for at least several years. If you have an old children's mattress with orthopedic properties, you can use the filler. For example, if you use coconut coir for your mattress, you can make outdoor recreation not only pleasant, but also useful.

      What to consider?

      Making a pillow with your own hands, you need to build on the specific country furniture. If chairs made of plastic (for example, from Ikea) are taken as the basis, elastic bands can be sewn to the pillows at the corners so that the accessories do not slip over the seat or backrests. If the furniture is made of solid wood, you can make textile cushion covers for the backs by tying them on the sides with strings. For a bench, a model without strings is enough.

      When choosing a material, make sure that it is not slippery, otherwise the pillow will not give comfort to the furniture. Before cutting out the product, do the decating: iron the new textiles with steam. From this, it can shrink, but in the future, deformation is excluded. Iron the fabric through a thin fabric from the wrong side to avoid creating weasels on the surface.

      Do not use cotton wool from an old mattress or blanket for stuffing. Crumpled filler can form bumps, which will not save even the quilting of pillows and seat cushions. This rule also applies to old fur coats: they are not suitable for stuffing, and they can be harmful to health. When making a back cushion, do not fill it with different fillers if one type is not enough. The load will create different pressures on the body, which can harm your posture.
