Fire is a phenomenon that at the same time frightens, delights, purifies, and soothes. Such a mystical effect cannot be created by modern lighting devices; a candle inserted into a candlestick will help to achieve this. Candlesticks made of wood are distinguished by a special sophistication - they fill the room with a mysterious atmosphere and immerse you in the ancient era.

Peculiarities

A wooden candlestick is a piece of furniture that serves both practical and decorative functions. As for its direct purpose, it is not worth talking about daily use or during an accidental power outage. Quicker, such an unusual item is used during holidays, especially church holidays or, for example, to create a romantic atmosphere for a special family occasion... The decorative component of a wooden candlestick is much more valuable.

In the Middle Ages, candlesticks made of precious woods were decorated with expensive stones and sold to honorable buyers. They were used for important ceremonies.

Gradually, this niche was occupied by porcelain, crystal and glass candlesticks, but wooden products did not lose their popularity either. So, in the Renaissance, specimens decorated with natural ornaments were valued, and for the Rococo era, monograms, images of angels, and village landscapes were more characteristic.

Over time, not only the design has changed, but also the shape of the wooden candlestick. Now, instead of the classic leg, tapering upwards, there are true works of art with refined carvings, sculptural details and solemn images.

Nowadays, designers have a special trepidation about wood candlesticks. These items are able to fill the room with coziness, family warmth, soften the too bold design of the room, and therefore wooden products are still popular, including in elite houses.

A candlestick made of valuable wood species can become a unique present that will emphasize the high status of its new owner.

Nowadays, both exquisite carvings and laconic unified stands for the minimalism style are common. A chiseled wooden candlestick truly serves as a symbol of a return to the era of our ancestors, when natural material was of particular value.

Candlesticks can be divided into traditional patterns, where one candle is inserted, into candelabra that can accommodate several candles, and into large pieces designed for up to 50 candles.

Also, products can be classified according to the type of attachment.

  • Outdoor. This sample will give the room a mystical atmosphere, fill the room with riddles and secrets, "carry" to the world of the century before last.
  • Tabletop. The most popular option, which is often used for its intended purpose. It can be placed on the table, for example, during a romantic dinner. Such products look very beautiful on a bulky retro-style table or on a grand piano.
  • Wall mounted. Another popular model. There are single and paired options. It is more often used for decorative purposes, for example, to decorate mirrors on both sides. Due to its proximity to the wall covering, it is not recommended to use the wall candlestick for its intended purpose for safety reasons.

Design options

During excavations, archaeologists often find ancient wooden candlesticks, in shape they look like pyramids or aroma lamps. It is this design that attracts many connoisseurs of antiques.

For lovers of contemporary art, candlesticks are made in the form of ethnic crafts, for example, in the form of a decorated driftwood.

Alternatively, such a wooden driftwood is suitable for decorating a room in a rustic style. If the craft has a calmer design, then you can use it in country style too.

For those who choose a candlestick for decorating a room in the style of Scandinavian minimalism, an unusual composition in the form of a snake is suitable. Even different-sized wooden balls, where candles are inserted, will become a harmonious addition to a romantic feast.

Rough and uncouth log products will have a shocking effect on guests, but their colorful color will create a flirty and lively atmosphere in the apartment. Usually, this option has a fairly simple fastening in the form of recesses.

Unusual decorative elements made of wood can be made with your own hands, for example, it is allowed to use tree roots.

The above mentioned driftwood is one of the options. To do this, you need to free the selected specimen from the bark, process it with sandpaper and make a hole with a tool for installing a candle. Suitable for crafts and tree bark. You can create a composition of many branches of the same length, for example, connect them and place them on a wooden stand in a random order.

Even ordinary logs are suitable for making a candlestick. For example, ordinary beams 10-15 cm in size can be used for crafts. A hole for a tablet candle is made with a drill, and the edges are rubbed with sandpaper.

Creative connoisseurs of self-work can experiment with designs and make exclusive accessories from logs that have been cut in half.

How to choose?

When buying a wooden candlestick listen to the following guidelines.

  • If the item is chosen for Easter or Christmas, then pay attention to the features of the fastening of the candle. The size of the hole should be small, so that the church candle will fit without any problems and will not "dangle" there.
  • For ethnic styles, it is very easy to find a suitable sample, especially since even specimens brought specially from India or Thailand are offered at a low price. In general, an interesting composition will allow you to make products from mango wood, ebony or rosewood, decorated with carvings or bamboo weaving.
  • For connoisseurs of antiques it is not so easy to find the right thing. Real retro is quite difficult to find, such a candlestick must be at least 50 years old, its cost is not available to everyone, but it fills the room with some special atmosphere, the spirit of the eras before last. If such a thing is impossible to find, then you can limit yourself to a vintage product - it was made 15-25 years ago, and therefore it is much easier to find it on sale.
  • If the apartment is made in the style of Provence, Shabby Chic, Art Nouveau, Baroque or even classic, then a win-win option - decorative lamp-candlesticks of floor type. Most often they are a rectangular or square lantern of an exquisite shape, made in a certain style, but not a familiar lamp is inserted inside, but a candle.
  • The easiest way is to choose a wooden candlestick for the Provence style. These can be figures of animals, voluminous birds, unusually curved stems and branches, bowls of flowers. Such graceful models serve more as decorative art objects than functional candle holders.
