Metal mailboxes

Metal mailboxes are often installed in suburban areas. They are durable, have a long service life and look neat and beautiful.

There are several types of such "houses" for postal correspondence.

• Traditional... Such metal mailboxes are popular in the CIS countries. They can be easily found in any hardware store. They do not always look spectacular, but they are convenient and easy to use. As a rule, such boxes are hung on a fence and do not need additional fastening. It is also convenient because, if necessary, the cell for letters can be removed for the winter indoors.

• American... Such mailboxes look quite simple. They are, as a rule, elongated and can accommodate a fairly large amount of correspondence. Their main difference lies in the presence of a special flag. It rises when there are letters inside the box. The American version of the mail vault looks great anywhere.

• British... Such a metal box is made in the form of a small house. They are low and fixed on small stands. This version of the cell for letters looks original and can be decorated in any way.

However, whatever the mailbox is, it must necessarily fit certain parameters:

• be located in a conspicuous place and be spacious enough;

• the contents of the box must be reliably protected from rain, snow and wind;

• the box should visually combine with other elements on the site.

Finding a suitable option is not so difficult.

A mailbox should be in every home. But it is not always possible to choose a beautiful model for yourself. But you can try to make a metal storage for correspondence with your own hands.

To make a mailbox, you need a minimum set of tools and materials:

• Metal sheet;

• grinder or scissors for cutting it;

• roulette;

• riveter;

• decorative elements.

To begin with, you need to cut out the details of the future product from a sheet of metal.... Marking is done using a marker and tape measure. Making a mailbox should start with cutting out two walls according to the drawing: the front and the back. Each piece must be 300 mm high, 175 mm wide and 135 mm deep. It is important to leave a little margin around the edges.

The next stage is the manufacture of side parts. Before assembling the box on the front side, you need to cut out a window for letters and newspapers. It should not be too big, but not too small. If desired, you can also make a small visor above the window to further protect newspapers and letters that will be delivered in bad weather.

After all the main work is completed, the box can be additionally decorated. The easiest way is to cover it with a layer of paint of the desired color and add some small details. It is also advisable to cover the finished product with a layer of varnish. This will extend its life.

There are many ways to style your mailbox in an interesting way. It can be formatted as:

• dollhouse;

• a small castle decorated with turrets;

• telephone booth;

• antique clocks;

• an originally decorated box with a pointer and address written on it.

And you can also decorate the base with some forged elements. The result is an exquisite design that will definitely attract attention. The mailbox, to which mini flower pots or hanging pots are attached, also looks interesting. This option is perfect for a stylish suburban area.

For your own safety, you can also put a lock on the street mailbox. In this case, there will be confidence that no one will encroach on the correspondence. It is worth noting that the padlock will not work here, because it will be quite easy to rip it off. Therefore, it is best to choose a high-quality mortise version.

Having finished the installation of a mailbox for a private house, you can proceed to fixing it in the right place. There are several options for the location of the mailbox.

• American mount... The main difference with this installation method is that the mailbox has its own support. The structure is usually installed at the edge of the site or at the path. Mounted on a metal or wood support. If desired, a beautiful garden figure can be used instead of the usual pillar. For example, a gnome who will hold a box in his hands.

• On the fence... This mounting option is also very good. The box is mounted on a fence, usually next to a gate or wicket. The metal box for correspondence can be mounted on a gate made of any material.

• Fastening to masonry. This option is also pretty reliable. You can fix the box in this way on the wall of any room. Dowels or anchor bolts are usually used for this purpose. The fastening features depend on what material the wall is made of.

Whichever method of fastening is chosen, the main thing is that it is reliable. In this case, there will be no problem using the mailbox.
