One of the most popular and frequently used cladding materials is planken. This is a material that has excellent physical and technical characteristics. An important point in the process of installing such a product is the choice of a fastening element for fixing. This is considered a "snake" fastener, which will be discussed in the article.

Peculiarities

Planken is a wooden board of a certain size with rounded or beveled edges, which is made from different types of wood. Today it is quite often used for cladding facades of buildings, walls of premises, erection of enclosing structures, gazebos and even floors for terraces.

This wooden building board must be properly assembled to ensure long-term use. To do this, you need to decide on a fastener, the choice of which depends on the type of planken.

One of the types of such fasteners is "snake". With its help, flush mounting of straight or beveled planks is carried out.

Fasteners "snake" are a rectangular metal plate on which holes for a screw are marked strictly in the center. It has the following characteristics:

  • width - 15 mm;
  • thickness - 2 mm;
  • length - 145 mm and 190 mm.

Choosing a "snake" for a planken, it is imperative to take into account its parameters, especially the length. The fastener with a length of 145 mm is used to fasten the planken, the width of which is from 70 mm to 110 mm, and the length of 190 mm is from 110 mm to 150 mm.

"Snake" is made of high quality steel. The product is coated with a special compound that strengthens and makes it corrosion-resistant and capable of withstanding high loads.

This type of fastener has a number of advantages and features. He:

  • lasting;
  • reliable;
  • easy to install (following the instructions, even a non-professional can install fasteners in the base of the planken);
  • universal;
  • inexpensive;
  • characterized by a long service life;
  • does not rust.

Also one of the biggest advantages of fasteners is that they are hidden.

This means that the surface of the planken remains smooth and level, with no technical gap.

That is why "snake" fasteners are ideal for oblique-looking products.

Mounting

There is a certain instruction, the sequence of actions which must be followed in order to carry out the fastening with the "snake" fastener correctly, creating a strong and sealed connection.

Installation is carried out as follows:

  • at the first stage, you need to prepare self-tapping screws, a screwdriver, planken and the fasteners themselves;
  • the strips are mixed in such a way that their reverse side is on top;
  • fastening of the fixing part is carried out - you need to fasten it so that it protrudes beyond the planken board by about 1–2 cm;
  • it is installed at all points where the planking board intersects with the crate;
  • then the plank board is turned over and attached to the crate;
  • after the joint, all subsequent boards are mounted and attached to the joint.

You need to act from the bottom up. The starter bar must be securely fastened on both sides and only then mount the next one.

Advice

From the above, it is quite clear that it is not difficult to mount the "snake" fasteners, but you still need to adhere to several rules:

  • fastening is carried out only on the back of the plank;
  • use self-tapping screws 4.5 mm long;
  • it is advisable to take logs with a width that is twice the width of the fastener itself;
  • when buying a fastener, do not forget to take into account the width of the planken - its length depends on it;
  • give preference to well-known manufacturers.

Adhering to these simple recommendations, you can easily attach the plank to the facade of the building without much effort and the involvement of installers. Such natural facing will serve faithfully for many years, decorating the house.
