Bogatyr is a variety of leaf parsley bred by Russian specialists and approved for use in 2000. For more than 20 years, the properties of this parsley have been well studied, and now every novice gardener can, based on the experience of other summer residents, get acquainted with the features of the Bogatyr variety.

Description of the variety

It is a cold tolerant variety that produces high yields and can yield even when grown in the shade. Harvesting is facilitated by the fact that the root is weakly anchored in the ground, while harvesting can be done several times during the growing period. The hero can reproduce by self-sowing, and its roots and leaves have a pronounced aroma and extractive properties.

Appearance

The variety has a powerful, semi-raised, leafy rosette, each branch of which has 30-100 long, triangular, dark green leaves. After cutting, the parsley grows well. The root vegetable is characterized by an average length and weight of about 110 g.

Purpose and taste

The texture of the greens is delicate, therefore it is recommended for fresh consumption, besides, its strong aroma will only add spice to any dish and make it as appetizing as possible. In general, Bogatyr's greens can be used for any culinary purposes.

Ripening terms

From the beginning of germination to the state of technical ripeness of a vegetable, 70-90 days pass, which is typical for varieties with a late ripening period. Typically, the harvest period stretches from June to October. After harvesting, the top of the parsley is cut, cleaned of soil, dried and stored in a cool place, where the vegetable can be stored for up to 5 months. It is allowed to freeze the product immediately. Root crops are used for forcing greens in winter.

Yield

Subject to the rules of agricultural technology, on average, you can collect 3 kg of greens and 10 kg of root crops from each square meter.

Growing and care

It is better to prepare the site for planting the Bogatyr variety in the fall. To do this, add manure to the ground and dig it up. The plant will feel more comfortable in light soil, rich in humus. Before planting, it is recommended to soak the seeds for half an hour in water and then dry them. Sowing is carried out in late April - early May according to the scheme 5-7x10-15 cm. Seeds need to be covered with soil and moisten the planting site.

Even before the emergence of shoots, the bed must be watered abundantly, since it is a moisture-loving variety. When shoots appear, you can begin to weed out the weeds, and loosen the ground, and at the stage of 2-3 leaves, thinning should be carried out.

Top dressing is applied twice before a leaf rosette is formed. To prepare the fertilizer, mix potassium sulfide, superphosphate and organic matter in water, and add the resulting composition as additional nutrition. If the top dressing contains nitrogen, then in August it is important to stop it, since this component is concentrated in the root system and the aerial part.

Disease and pest resistance

The hero cannot boast of strong immunity against diseases and insects. It can become a victim of melon aphids, carrot flies, stem nematodes, white rot, rust, spotting. But this variety is rarely affected by wet rot and sclerotinia.To prevent the appearance of diseases and the attack of pests, it is necessary to carry out preventive measures, namely:

  • loosen the ground regularly, and avoid excessive acidification;

  • observe the rules of crop rotation, and plant plants of two different generations at a great distance from each other;

  • avoid overflow when caring for the crop;

  • store seeds correctly - before planting, they should be kept in fabric bags at a temperature of 15-20 degrees;

  • at the first symptoms of the disease, treat the plants with Bordeaux liquid or 1% boric acid.
