Sand concrete of the M400 brand belongs to the category of popular building mixtures with an optimal composition for carrying out repair and restoration work. Simple instructions for use and a wide selection of brands ("Birss", "Vilis", "Stone Flower", etc.) allow you to select and use the material for its intended purpose in a variety of conditions. It is worth learning in more detail about how it differs from other brands, what advantages and features it has.

What it is?

Sand concrete of the M400 brand is dry mixture based on Portland cement, combined with coarse quartz sand and specialized additives that improve its performance. Carefully measured proportions combined with an impressive set of characteristics make this material truly useful for use in construction and renovation. Dry sand-concrete mixture is used for the manufacture of mortars for various purposes.

The composition marking is similar to that of the hardened material. Sand concrete M400, when solidified in the form of a monolith, acquires a compressive strength of 400 kg / cm2.

Additional indexes in the labeling indicate the purity of the composition. In the absence of additives, the designation D0 is affixed, if any, after the letter, the percentage inclusion of additives is indicated.

The main characteristics of sand concrete M400 are as follows:

  • the average pot life of the solution is 120 minutes;
  • density - 2000-2200 kg / m3;
  • frost resistance - up to 200 cycles;
  • peel strength - 0.3 MPa;
  • operating temperatures range from +70 to -50 degrees.

Pouring M400 sand concrete is carried out exclusively in dry weather. The air temperature indoors or outdoors must be at least +5 degrees Celsius. The scope of application of this brand of sand concrete varies from household to industrial. Usually it is used when pouring floor screed, making foundations in formwork, and other building structures. Also dry mixes M400 are used when casting molded products. The short pot life of the solution (60 to 120 minutes) requires preparation immediately before use.

Sand concrete of the M400 brand is widely used in industry and civil construction.

When pouring reinforced concrete, forming underground objects, the solution is supplied in special mixers. In the field of individual construction, it is kneaded into plaster mixes. Also, on the basis of this material, concrete products are produced - slabs, curbs, paving stones.

Composition and packing

Sand concrete M400 is available in packages of 10, 25, 40 or 50 kg. It is packaged in paper bags and stored in a dry place. The composition may vary depending on the purpose of the mixture. Its main components are the following elements.

  1. Portland cement М400... It determines the ultimate strength of the concrete after it has been poured and hardened.
  2. River sand of coarse fractions... The diameter should not be more than 3 mm.
  3. Plasticizerspreventing cracking and excessive shrinkage of the material.

A feature of the composition with the M400 marking is the increased content of Portland cement. This allows it to provide maximum strength, makes it possible to withstand significant operational loads. The volume fraction of aggregate sand in the composition reaches 3/4.

Manufacturers overview

Sand concrete of the M400 brand, presented on the Russian market, is produced by a large number of manufacturers. The most popular brands include the following.

  • Rusean. The company manufactures products in 50 kg bags. Sand concrete of this brand is appreciated for its resistance to temperature extremes, increased strength characteristics, and high reliability of the monolith. The cost of production is average.
  • "Vilis". This brand produces high quality sand concrete mix with a wide range of applications. The material is resistant to shrinkage and is economical in consumption. Convenient package sizes combined with economical consumption make this product a truly attractive purchase.
  • "Stone Flower"... This building materials plant manufactures its products in accordance with the requirements of GOST. The brand is considered to be of high quality, sand concrete has an economical consumption, coarse-grained filling, withstands many freeze and thaw cycles.
  • Birss. The company produces mixtures of the M400 brand with a reduced viability of the solution, with an average consumption of raw materials. Sand concrete gains hardness within 3 days, is resistant to a wide range of mechanical loads.

When comparing sand concrete of the M400 brand from different brands, it can be noted that some of them pay great attention to improving the quality indicators of the mixture.

For example, "Stone Flower", Brozex, "Etalon" use in the production of non-tared cement slurries, produced by means of auxiliary processing in the mill, with strengthening and fractionation.

The amount of water required to prepare the mixture will also be different - it varies from 6 to 10 liters.

Instructions for use

The correct proportions of M400 sand concrete are the key to success in its preparation. The mixture is prepared by adding water to it with a temperature not higher than +20 degrees. When using sand concrete of this brand, the volumes of liquid per 1 kg of dry composition will vary in the range of 0.18-0.23 liters. Among the recommendations for use are the following.

  1. Gradual introduction of water. It is poured in, accompanying the process with thorough mixing. There should be no lumps in the sand concrete mortar.
  2. Bringing the mixture to a stable state. The solution is kneaded until it acquires sufficient consistency stability, plasticity.
  3. Limited time of use... Depending on the amount of additives, the composition begins to harden after 60-120 minutes.
  4. Carrying out work at a temperature not lower than +20 degrees. Despite the permissible decrease in this indicator, it is better to provide optimal conditions for the setting of the mixture.
  5. Refusal to add water when filling... This is completely unacceptable.
  6. Preliminary dedusting of formwork and base... This will ensure a high level of adhesion. When carrying out repair or plastering works, areas with remnants of old finishing and building materials are thoroughly cleaned. All existing defects, cracks must be repaired.
  7. Gradual compaction by bayonet or vibration... The mixture dries within 24-72 hours, it gains full hardness after 28-30 days.

Material consumption for M400 grade sand concrete is about 20-23 kg / m2 with a layer thickness of 10 mm. For some manufacturers, this figure will be lower. The most economical formulations allow you to spend only 17-19 kg of dry raw materials per 1 m2.
