Natural volcanoes are extremely dangerous and formidable. But the peach Vulcan can give a lot of positive emotions. The most important thing in this case is to collect as much objective information as possible about him.

Description of the variety

Created by Canadian breeder George Lyne, the peach is officially named Vulcan. To obtain it, the Veecling and NJC-95 varieties were hybridized. A medium-sized (1.5-2 m) tree is covered with medium-sized flowers, painted in a pink tone. The plant does not appear in the state register of the Russian Federation.

Fruit characteristics

The fruits are used both fresh and for canning. Drupes are colored orange, have a dark red or marble blush. The rounded geometry is typical of the Volcano peaches. The average weight ranges from 0.08 to 0.12 kg. It will not be possible to separate the bone from the pulp.

Taste qualities

In general, the fruits of this variety are sweetish. Their tasting examination gave an average mark of 4.7 points. The skin is quite dense and therefore feels like an obstruction. Juicy yellow flesh is firm. As a result, the general impression of Vulcan is rather favorable, with some flaws.

Ripening and fruiting

It is believed that this variety has an average ripening period. Fruits usually appear in late July or early August. The crops are harvested annually. It is worth noting that weather conditions and mistakes in agricultural technology can negatively affect these indicators. The marketability of the Volcano's fruits is quite high.

Yield

The productivity of this variety is very significant. Specific figures have not been established.

Self-fertility and the need for pollinators

The cultivar pollinates itself. You will not need to plant other plants for this purpose.

Growing and care

The volcano loves light, but at the same time it can be called a shade-tolerant plant. True, in the shade, the total productivity may decrease. It is necessary to moisten the soil moderately. It is advisable to choose garden land for planting.

There are no special subtleties when growing this particular variety, and care can be organized in the same way as for all other varieties. Top dressing and regular watering are very important, because without them it is impossible to achieve high productivity. Adequate irrigation determines not only the amount of fruits harvested, but also their taste and aroma.

Particular attention should be paid to peach seedlings in the first 20-25 days after planting in a permanent place - this is the moment that is most critical. During such a period, it is necessary to pay attention not only to watering, but also to pruning up to 40-45 cm. Since the root system of peach trees is shallow, active loosening is contraindicated.

In the first 30 days, it is necessary to water the Volcano once every 3 days, using 10 liters of water. Other recommendations are as follows:

  • in the dry period, increase watering up to 15-20 liters for 1 reception;
  • mulch plantings 7-10 cm to improve moisture retention;
  • weed out all weeds that may develop in the near-trunk circle;
  • plant plants in the south in autumn, in colder regions in spring;
  • distribute and normalize the load on the branches in any case;
  • carry out 2 or 3 foliar dressing with potash formulations before the beginning of the crop formation;
  • spray plants in October with Bordeaux mixture so that they are less sick;
  • to feed the near-trunk circle of the Volcano peach before the onset of cold weather by incorporating organic matter and mineral compounds.
Planting a peach tree is a very important step that will lay the foundation for abundant fruit production in the future.At this stage, you should choose the right seedling, find the optimal place, decide on suitable culture neighbors and prepare a hole.
Peach grafting accelerates the fruiting period, increases the resistance of the crop in cold conditions, helps to rejuvenate the old plant, while maintaining all the varietal qualities of the grafted shoot. This agrotechnical technique allows you to grow peaches even in those regions where it was previously impossible due to unfavorable climatic and weather conditions.
Peaches are quite capricious trees, therefore, without proper care and timely pruning, they will give a weak harvest or wither away altogether. The formation of a tree, pruning of diseased and unnecessary branches are those important manipulations, thanks to which it will be possible not only to preserve the peach tree, but also to make it abundantly fruitful.

Frost resistance and the need for shelter

The frost resistance of this variety is very high. In most of the territory of Russia, it is able to survive the winter cold without shelter or with minimal shelter. But if a harsh winter is expected, protective measures are required.

Disease and pest resistance

It is officially announced that the Vulcan peach is resistant to fungal infections. Also, the plant is resistant to curliness.

Growing a peach on your site will require a lot of effort and attention. After all, this tree is very delicate and susceptible to many diseases and pests. In order to recognize the disease in time and take appropriate measures, it is worthwhile to understand well the symptoms of diseases and the peculiarities of the lesion of the peach.
In recent years, many gardeners have started to get involved in the cultivation of exotic trees on their plots. The breeding of the garden peach has also become popular. There are many ways to breed peach trees. Peach can be propagated by cuttings, air layering, you can grow a tree from a stone.
