Today GVL is one of the most demanded materials for interior decoration. Gypsum fiber has shown a number of advantages over drywall, which is why its use in decoration has become so widespread. With the advent of moisture-resistant gypsum fiber on the market, it was possible to avoid troubles when using the material in rooms with high humidity.

Specifications

In the production of GVLV, a mixture of gypsum and cellulose fibers is used. These components are mixed until homogeneous and then compacted with a press to shape the sheet. A blend of cellulose fibers gives the GVL high strength. Moisture-resistant gypsum fibers are made in about the same way, only hydrophobic components are added to them during production, which gives the material high moisture resistance.

Main advantages

Of course, the main advantage of GVLV is its moisture resistance, which makes it possible to use the material when decorating premises such as a kitchen or a bathroom.

One of the features of waterproof gypsum fiber is its environmental friendliness, since the material does not contain harmful chemical impurities and does not harm a person's health.

Moisture resistant gypsum fiber retains its properties even with temperature changes, which allows the material to be used even in cold rooms.

GVLV can also be used as insulation of a room, because the level of its thermal conductivity is low. This means that such sheets retain heat in the room for a long time.

The material, if necessary, can be easily changed and adjusted to the required dimensions if it is cut off. GVLV does not crumble if you drive nails into it or screw in self-tapping screws.

Among other things, gypsum fiber also has excellent sound insulation properties., which ensures the room from the penetration of extraneous noise. GVLV is also resistant to fire.

The material is quite flexible, which is very convenient when using it.

GVLV size

GVLV sheets are produced in accordance with GOST, which also provides for their sizes:

  • Thickness, mm: 5, 10, 12.5, 18, 20.
  • The width of the GVLV is represented by the following dimensions, mm: 500, 1000, 1200.
  • In terms of length, the following standards can be distinguished, mm: 1500, 2000, 2500, 2700, 3000.

Material weight

If we compare GVLV with drywall, then the latter is much easier. And this suggests that moisture-resistant gypsum fiber requires a very strong frame that can withstand its weight. Moreover, if the sheets themselves will also have a load. But if the sheets of gypsum fiber board are small, then the frame in this case will not be required. Special glue for GVLV is quite reliably capable of withstanding the weight of gypsum fiber sheets.

How to cut GVLV?

Sometimes, when decorating walls or floors, it becomes necessary to cut a sheet of GVLV and adjust it to the desired size. This is very easy to do.

You can use a knife, jigsaw or hacksaw to cut gypsum fiber boards. Previously, it is worth moistening the GVLV with water so that the material is not very dusty.

The sheet must be cut in stages:

  • A flat rail is applied to the GVLV plate, along which the marking is carried out.
  • Then, several straight cuts are made along the marked line with a knife: it is worth holding 5-6 times.
  • Then the rail should be laid under the incision, gently break the sheet or cut it with a hacksaw.

The tool that will help you to perfectly cut the sheet of GVLV is a jigsaw. It is especially indispensable for builders who are faced with such a material for the first time.

    Laying on the floor

Before laying the sheets of GVLV on the floor, the base must be carefully prepared. All surface irregularities and imperfections must be eliminated. This can be done realistically using a cement mortar or using polyurethane foam.

The old floor covering should be removed and the surface cleaned of debris. Next, a layer of waterproofing is laid, and if necessary, a layer of expanded clay is poured.

It should be remembered that for gypsum fiber you need to use glue that is produced specifically for this type of material.

Installation of sheets can be done as follows:

    • First, the damper tape is glued.
    • Then you should start laying the sheets themselves. You can fix them to the floor using special screws or glue. The distance recommended when screwing in self-tapping screws is about 35-40 cm from each other. It is important to know that each new row should be laid with a shift in the seam. It must be at least 20 cm.
    • At the final work, you should start processing all the joints between the plates. Sometimes the same glue is used for this, but it happens that putty is also used. After the leveling compounds have dried, the main coating can already be laid on the gypsum fiber.

    For walls

When installing GVLV for walls, you can use two main techniques:

    Frameless method

In this case, the sheets are fastened using glue. Unevenness in the wall becomes an extremely important factor for the application of the adhesive. In case of significant defects, it is necessary to apply the composition around the entire perimeter of the slab, and after which it is worth making spot applications in the middle part every 30 cm.But if in the future a large load will fall on the GVL sheet, then it is better to lubricate the sheet with a continuous layer of glue.

    Wireframe method

The wireframe method is also used, which is more complex. A metal frame is used for mounting sheets. Under the frame itself, if necessary, you can fix additional noise insulation or insulation. GVLV sheets are mounted on a support using special self-tapping screws.

    Some installation features

There are a number of common mistakes when working with moisture resistant gypsum fiber that should be avoided.

    Here are some tips:

    • The chamfer is not removed before applying the putty.
    • For fastening sheets, ordinary self-tapping screws cannot be used, their special forms are produced, which should be used.
    • It is recommended to leave gaps at the joints of the sheets. Their distance should be equal to half the thickness of the GVLV sheet.
    • Further, the remaining gaps should be filled with gypsum putty, or the remnants of glue can be used for these purposes.
    • Before the installation of GVL is carried out, it is necessary to carefully prepare the base of the wall, which includes removing irregularities, applying a primer and leveling.

What should be considered when choosing?

The main criterion for buying GVLV sheets is the manufacturer of the goods. High performance is possessed by German-made gypsum fiber, in particular, Knauf. This brand does not cause serious criticism from buyers. An important point is also the labeling of the sheets. The fact is that in terms of their external features, moisture-resistant GVL does not differ from standard ones. For this reason, it is important to read the information on the product packaging.

For finishing arched structures, you can also use GVLV. For these purposes, even special types of sheets are produced for creating arches and curved structures - GKLV.

    Prices

Prices for gypsum fiber sheets will depend on their size.

The approximate price tag for the following dimensions of GVL are as follows:

    • Knauf-Superpol 1200x600x20mm - approximately 300 rubles per sheet, (5 cu);
    • Knauf-Superlist (GVL) 2500x1200x10 mm - 460 rubles, (7.5 cu);
    • Knauf-Superlist (GVL) 2500x1200x12.5 mm - 530 rubles, (8.8 USD).

    conclusions

GVLV is an irreplaceable material for interior decoration, especially for rooms with high humidity. Such sheets do not lend themselves to moisture and are resistant to low temperatures.

GVL are able to withstand up to 15 freezing cycles without losing their properties. The service life of such a material is very high, which will help you forget about further wall repairs for a long time.

Installation of sheets is quite simple and it is quite possible to cope with it on its own.
