Orchids are considered one of the most beautiful and amazing plants. They appeared on Earth many millions of years ago. More and more often they can be seen on windowsills in houses, because these flowers amaze the eye with their numerous shades.

Basic colors

It should be noted that orchids are natural and decorative. In nature, there are up to 30 thousand species of this plant, but experts do not stop there and are developing more and more new varieties. Now you can meet orchids of almost all colors of the rainbow... They can be of the same tone and with different patterns.

Most often, orchids are sold in a pot, which already contains all the components necessary for a flower. It is worth noting the following most popular and unpretentious plants:

  • "Fluttering butterfly" - this flower of a delicate crimson hue can bloom almost all year round;
  • the cymbidium is distinguished by large flowers, often such a plant is bought on the advice of psychologists, as it helps to get out of depression;
  • wanda is the most beautiful orchid, the second name is "royal orchid", it is very often found in flower shops;
  • mini-phalaenopsis has a variety of colors and is in great demand due to its low price.

All orchids can be divided into three subtypes by color. It is worth considering them in more detail.

Light shades

    The palette of this subspecies amazes not only with its beauty, but also with its tenderness. Especially handsome mint or turquoise hue. A beige orchid is quite rare. To understand which shades are popular, you need to take a closer look.

    • White... They are very common orchids that can bloom 3 times a year. Their height can be up to 1 meter. The roots of such orchids are well developed, there are practically no pseudobulbs in them.

    Such a plant can "live" on the windowsill up to 8 years old. Moreover, it is completely picky about leaving, therefore, many beginners begin to create their own flower garden from this subspecies.

    • Coral... Most often, these shades are obtained by crossing. They belong to the Phalaenopsis "Multiflora". When they bloom, then resemble a cloud made of flowers.

    The height of the peduncle can be up to half a meter, and their number is up to 6 stems... The flowers themselves are small - up to 5 centimeters in circumference.

    • Pink... There are many varieties of this plant. Flowers can be very small or large. In addition, they can be completely pink and slightly streaked.

    Moreover, the shades may differ both from the bottom and from the top. If the flowers are pale pink at the top, then the bottom can be red. In the smallest orchids, peduncles can reach up to 20 centimeters, but they can have more than 25 flowers.

    • Green... There is no unequivocal designation of such a subspecies, because the human perception of the color gamut is completely different. And if one thinks that this is a light green tone, then another can say that, on the contrary, it is yellow.

    The only undisputed option is pistachio... These flowers have a pleasant aromathat can only be felt in daylight.

    • Peach... Orchids with this shade are very rare. However, those who wish to get them into their collection can get them without any problems. Most often these are hybrid plants that have been grown by breeders.

    Bright colours

    Orchids in bright colors, such as fuchsia or burgundy, are very popular. All of them are beautiful in their own way and delight others.

    • Burgundy... Most often, burgundy orchids are classified as Phalaenopsis Black Butterfly and Orchids. The shape of the flower is a bit like a butterfly.... Its colors can range from burgundy to maroon. Small white specks are often found on the tips of the petals.

    Among all orchids, it is worth noting Kimono, which has a rich wine color with a lot of veins. In addition, the royal raspberry orchid is also quite beautiful, which differs not only in very large flowers, but also in its high price.

    • Red... This orchid is also called "Amoloar". On her peduncles they can bloom at the same time up to 50 flowers... They all have rounded petals.

    Such beauty can last from 4 to 6 months. In addition, under good lighting conditions, red orchids will emit pleasant aroma.

    • Orange... It is this color that does not exist in nature, all shades are created artificially. However, there are also some orchids that have orange hues.

    They may be from pale yellow to bright red. For example, the Cattleya orchid has a fiery color. It has a delicate and pleasant aroma.

    • Lemon... Such an orchid has from one to several stems, on which rather large flowers are located.

    Dark tones

    The following colors can be attributed to dark shades of orchids: and black, and brown, and gray, and blue, and even brick... Most often, this is the creative work of many specialists. Painting is carried out using injections into the stem of the plant or watering with special dyes.

    • Black... Among the black orchids, it is worth noting such varieties as Black Butterfly and Black Takka. They have rather large flowers, which can be up to 12 centimeters in circumference.
    • Purple... There are several subspecies with this shade. For example, "Horse Phalaenopsis" can be attributed to mini-orchids. However, their value lies in something completely different - in the possibility bloom all year round.

    The peak is in autumn and spring. In addition, the peduncle itself has unusual shade of magenta... Its height reaches 30 centimeters. Another feature is survival in high temperatures.

    • Blue... In nature, orchids of this color practically do not exist. There is only one species and it can only be found in botanical gardens or greenhouses. In fact, such orchids can be either dark, but in this case they can be attributed more to black subspecies, or colored, although in this case, the next flowering, they will return to their previous color.
    • Brown... Such tones are quite rare and look very unusual. Among them it is worth noting the "Nest" orchid. This specimen not only has brown flowers, but also the stems. Such an orchid does not look very beautiful, moreover, it feeds only on rotted organic substances.

    Unusual options

    In addition, there are completely unusual multi-colored orchids. They can be small specks or small dots, pale or too prominent. All shades are obtained by crossing two or three types of orchids. Most often, such plants are ordered from catalogs, but no one guarantees that the color will remain the same.

    You can find quite unique specimens. It is worth considering them in more detail.

    • Gold... Such an orchid is considered one of the most expensive flowers. Its price reaches 5 thousand dollars for one copy.

    Its hallmark is longevity. However, it begins to bloom only after 15 years. There are no more than 6 flowers on the stem.

    • Silver... An orchid with this shade can also be found in nature. It's called cymbidium.
    • Orchids such as Dracula are also worth noting. They have not only unusual shades, but also peduncles that covered with hairs.

    Can I paint it?

    Almost all people who work in greenhouses know what shades definitely do not exist in nature. That is why they create items that are in great demand. They do it in the following ways:

    • by watering with paints;
    • by injection directly into the stem.

    Important! If, after the purchase, the flower is “transformed” and becomes lighter or, conversely, darker, it can be returned to the lost shade even at home. At home, indoor plants are tinted in the same way.

    When using the first method into water, it is necessary pour in the selected pigment and stir it well... However, after that, not only the flowers will be colored, but also the stem. So that the color does not come off too quickly, it is necessary to periodically water the plant with dye.

    To make an injection for staining, it is necessary to draw a coloring solution into a syringe, and then prick the peduncle. One injection will be enough. After any of these procedures, the orchid must be looked at well, because for some time it will be very weak.

    Can an orchid change the color of its flowers?

    A change in the shade of an orchid is a fairly common phenomenon that happens as a result of artificial painting. To prevent this from happening, you need to look when buying so that there are no traces of paint on the flower. In addition, the shade may change as a result of improper care. For example, a flower may lack light, nutrients, or when changing location. However, as a result of this the color can only become slightly lighter or, conversely, darker.

    It is worth noting that orchids have become the favorite flowers of most women, because they attract attention not only with their beauty, but also with a variety of shades. In order for them to please their owners for a long time, it is necessary to provide them with proper care.

    An orchid of any shade will become an unsurpassed decoration of a room if you provide it with regular care and optimal conditions.
