Stationery scissors: description and rules for working with them

Scissors have long and confidently entered our daily life. We cannot do without them for a day. There are many types of scissors, depending on their purpose. But most often in everyday life we ​​use office scissors. This is almost a universal item, in every home it is not a single copy. With office scissors, you can cut off the edge of the package, fabric, thread, paper or cardboard. They can easily handle plastic, polyethylene and rubber.

A scissors is a piercing-cutting metal object made of two durable stainless steel plates. On the inside, the plates are sharpened at a special angle. On the opposite end are handles with finger holes. There are special scissors for left-handers, the blades in them are turned upside down.

The plates are fixed to each other with a bolt or rivet. Bolt fastening is preferable because it can be tightened if necessary. This action is needed if there is a gap between the blades. In this case, the scissors, instead of cutting the desired material, begin to chew it.

The quality of the scissors depends on the hardness of the cutting insert material. They are made of carbon steel, the factory sharpening is kept on it for a long time. The length of the blades can vary from 130 to 240 mm. The most popular models are 150-210 mm long. The ergonomic design of the handles can be oval, round or ellipsoidal. Models come with rings of the same size and asymmetrical handles. The latter, in combination with rubberized gaskets, tire the hand less during intensive and prolonged work.

Solid and durable all-metal scissors are made from solid metal plates connected to each other. A layer of plastic is applied to the iron rings. In combined models, only plastic is present in the handles, such a product will not serve you for long. In addition to stainless steel, titanium or nickel plated models are also available. The micro-notch applied to the edges of the blades prolongs their service life without additional sharpening.

According to the technical requirements approved by GOST R 51268-99, the scissors must comply with the drawings, documents and reference samples. Given the purpose, the following types of scissors are produced:

To avoid unpleasant incidents when working with scissors, you should adhere to several simple rules.

• Store and carry scissors only in a case or box.

• Avoid the proximity of the instrument to the face.

• Do not use blunt, misaligned or broken scissors.

• It is necessary to hold in hands and pass the tool with the sharp ends down.

• The scissors should be closed on the work table.

• When cutting off parts, be careful with the fingers of your left hand. And if you are left-handed, then right-handed.

• Use the tool only for its intended purpose.

When choosing office scissors, you need to pay attention to the diameter of the rings on the handles. If they are too small, they will cause discomfort, rubbing your fingers. Tool with large ring holders is also awkward in the hand. The best option would be medium-sized rings.

For the most comfortable feeling when working with scissors, you need to learn how to hold them correctly. Place the tool on the table with the tip pointing away from you. Let's say you are not left-handed, which means that we insert the thumb of the right hand into the left ring of scissors. If the rings are the same size, then insert the middle finger into the right one. The index finger will automatically rest on top of the right ring.

In the event that the handles are of different sizes, then 2 or even 3 fingers must be inserted into the larger hole. The index also stays on top. These scissors are designed for cutting dense materials.

To teach a kid to use scissors correctly, you need to use a lot of skills and abilities. The technique of working with this tool requires the coordination of both hands, since they simultaneously perform different movements. This has a positive effect on the development of fine motor skills and the brain.

Manufacturers of children's stationery strive to make their products as practical, effective and colorful as possible. Nowadays there is an opportunity to choose scissors for a child for every taste. This tool comes in handy for classes in art and creative workshops, or in art and labor education classes. Toddler scissors should be comfortable and safe. Choose a tool with medium-sized rounded blades. Handles with soft rubberized rings are ideal.

For children's creativity, there is a large selection of models with curly blades. Such types of creativity as decoupage, quilling or scrapbooking cannot do without them. Tools that cut with teeth, zigzags, waves, etc. are popular. They can be used when working not only with paper, but also with cardboard, foil, felt. The time of the work performed directly depends on how much the tool weighs. Typically, the weight of office scissors ranges from 100 g to 500 g. Light, of course, is easier and faster to work. However, the lightness of the model indicates that it is not made of a solid metal sheet, but with the addition of plastic... For cutting paper and other loose materials, scissors weighing up to 200 g will suffice. A heavier tool will be needed where effort is needed. It is easier to cut cardboard or rubber with a heavy tool.

The length of office scissors can be from 120 to 325 mm. Large product sizes are useful for direct cutting of parts. The long and thin ends allow you to cut a sheet of A4 paper in just a couple of clicks.

The most common and practical example is the tool, which is 180 mm long. In this case, the blade accounts for 102 mm, and its ideal thickness is 2.5 mm. Scissors of this size are almost universal. They will come in handy both in the office and at home.

Metal blades should be made of steel with a hardness of 58 to 62 HRC. The sharpness of the cutting edge is determined by the sharpening angle from 50 to 70 degrees. When closed, there should be no gap between the blades.
