Among all the activities that require bathroom renovation, tile laying takes an important place. Separate attention should be paid to the installation of internal corners, also called trims and layouts, which add completeness to the cladding and improve its performance. Each of the types of such products has a lot of undeniable advantages.

Peculiarities

Practice shows that many specialists do without tile corners, preferring to them the procedure of grinding tile edges at an angle of 45 degrees. It should be noted that this solution has its advantages, however, the implementation of such an event by a person without proper experience is not possible. Given this circumstance, it is reasonable for non-professionals to rely on trims, the installation of which is not particularly difficult.

Installation of internal layouts is carried out in the joints located between the adjoining surfaces. Unlike external corners, such products do not carry a serious functional load, and therefore they are used much less often. Most often, internal trims are used in situations that involve following a particular design idea. They organically complement the interior of the room, making its perception as beneficial as possible.

As for the design of internal corners for ceramic tiles, it provides for the following elements:

  • tile puzzle;
  • perforated rib for optimal adhesion of the adhesive to the tiles;
  • front part, the main function of which is decorative.

The standard width of such products is 10 mm, and the length can be chosen by the owner of the dwelling in accordance with the task at hand (as a rule, this indicator does not exceed 250 cm).

Advantages and disadvantages

There are many reasons why the use of internal trims is an overwhelmingly justifiable solution.

If we highlight the most significant advantages of such profiles, then their list will look like this:

  • ensuring the evenness of the cladding in the area of the joints;
  • effective masking of the vast majority of defects resulting from inaccurate cutting of tiles;
  • increasing the strength of the lined surfaces;
  • significant facilitation of the installation process, due to the lack of the need for trimming the tiles;
  • increasing the resistance of tiles to moisture;
  • achieving the best appearance of the joints, achieved with the help of decorative varieties of layouts.

In addition, the installation of internal corners requires less time than the arrangement of joints by grinding tile edges. Talking about the advantages of the presented products, it is worth mentioning their disadvantages.

These, depending on the type of tile trim, are:

  • relatively high cost of ceramic layouts;
  • the appearance of yellowness on white plastic profiles after a certain time (for this reason, it is advisable to rely on black or colored inner corners);
  • gradual destruction of the surface of chrome trims due to regular mechanical stress.

As you can see, the advantages of interior tile layouts are much greater than the disadvantages, which provides them with high and steadily growing popularity.

Varieties

Depending on the base material of the inner corners for tiles, the following types of these products are distinguished:

Plastic

Such layouts are made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is one of the most demanded polymers in construction. Such profiles are capable of "boasting" a variety of color options, as well as lightness, flexibility and resistance to moisture. In addition, PVC corners can be glued to silicone sealant after laying the tile, due to their low weight.

Ceramic

The considered variety of trims is considered the most prestigious. This is due to the presence of patterns that repeat the pattern on the tile or are organically combined with it. The use of such products gives the cladding the most effective look, making it a real decoration of the bathroom.

Metallic

The main distinguishing features of these layouts are reliability and impressive wear resistance. The material of such corners is stainless steel, and a decorative coating can be applied to their front side. Nickel or chromium is used to solve this problem.

Aluminum interior corners are especially popular. First of all, they are relevant in cases of a combination of several shades of ceramics in the joint area. Unlike aluminum products, the neutral tone of which is suitable in the vast majority of cases, arranging such corners with colored PVC trims cannot be called the optimal solution. In addition, these layouts are in perfect harmony with other metal elements of the bathroom - for example, with the details of the shower stall.

It is also worth adding that the inner corners for tiles differ in the way of installation, on the basis of which they can be horizontal or vertical. Another significant characteristic of trims is their sizes, the main numbering of which provides for numerical values from 6 to 12. The latter are measured in millimeters and indicate the thickness, defined as the distance from the base of the layout to its edge.

Selection rules

Before buying interior trims, the owner of the premises should pay attention to the manufacturer of the products of interest to him, whose products must comply with advanced quality and safety requirements. Otherwise, the repair result may be unsatisfactory due to the short service life of the purchased layouts. One of the best solutions recommended by experts are the inner corners with acrylic coating, which can boast not only spectacular shine, but also excellent wear resistance.

As for the thickness of the inner corners, it is determined taking into account the thickness of the tiles used. In a situation where the latter is 9 mm, it is necessary to choose trim # 10 (which is 1 mm thicker than the ceramic tile) and so on. The calculation of the total length of the purchased products is also not difficult: it is enough to add up the lengths of all the joints being equipped. When purchasing the required number of trims, it is worth buying one additional trimmer in order to compensate for the material consumption during the trimming process.

Another criterion for choosing interior tile layouts is their color. To determine the most suitable shade of the corners, it is advisable to have a sample of the tiles with which they will be used.

If the homeowner wants to bet on the use of trims in a color other than the tile, he needs to consider the following recommendations:

  • a silver corner is the best solution for tiles made in cool or dark colors;
  • pastel tiles are best combined with layouts that are close to her in color;
  • golden trims are suitable for ceramics with a warm and cheerful tone;
  • the creation of bold contrasts is appropriate in rooms lined with bright tiles;
  • it is possible to purchase interior corners with their own ornaments, bringing additional aesthetics to the interior of the room.

The choice of layouts in accordance with the complexity of their installation is worthy of special mention.

So, working with plastic trims is most simple, followed by the arrangement of metal corners, and the most difficult is the installation of ceramic products. This circumstance should be taken into account by everyone who seeks to do without the help of specialists.

Mounting

Inner tile trims are installed gradually from the free edge towards the inner corner.

To complete the procedure under consideration, you need to adhere to the following sequence of actions:

  • applying glue to ceramic tiles and the wall where the internal layout will be located;
  • placement of the corner;
  • installation of tiles in the groove of the inner trim;
  • gluing (in order to maintain the distance between the tiles, you need to use construction crosses to wedge the seams);
  • repeating the above action with ceramics placed on the other side of the joint;
  • laying the required number of rows, the last of which can be finished with a finishing profile, if it meets the conditions of the task;
  • decorative grouting using the appropriate composition (performed after a day has passed since the installation of the internal trims).

This list is basic, and therefore may provide for changing the algorithm in accordance with the preferences of the performer. So, some masters first mount all the layouts, and only then start working with the tiles. It is more convenient for other craftsmen to fix the corners in stages, in the course of creating a ceramic cloth. The only condition that is mandatory in all situations is the absence of haste, which can devalue the effort, time and money invested in the work.

Pruning

One of the operations, the implementation of which often involves the installation of internal corners, is their trimming. It is worth noting that in a situation where tile layouts have already been installed, it is quite problematic to solve this problem, and therefore this option cannot be called rational.

As a rule, for further location perpendicular to each other, trims are trimmed taking into account the following points:

  • the clipping angle in such cases should be 45 degrees;
  • performing work, it is necessary to observe maximum accuracy in order to avoid the appearance of large gaps at the joints;
  • to achieve optimal results, you should use a miter box - a carpentry tool that provides a clear position of the trims at the required angle;
  • the trimming procedure is performed with a metal hacksaw or a turbine.

In addition, before starting work, you need to carry out all the necessary measurements and make a markup. As for situations involving the creation of an angle other than a right angle (for example, 135 degrees), they are more complex, requiring high performing skills.

Finally, it remains to state that the inner corners for tiles are rightfully considered a solution that organically combines beauty, reliability and practicality. It is also pleasing that the installation of such products can really be done by hand. To do this, it is enough to be patient and “arm yourself” with the recommendations listed above.
