Everyone, coming home, wants to see an attractive interior. Floor, furniture, fittings - everything should fit perfectly, including the wallpaper. In this case, you should take a closer look at this type of wallpaper as silk-screened canvases: they are really capable of bringing chic and luxury to the interior.

What it is?

Silk-screen wallpaper, or silk-screen wallpaper, is a vinyl-based wallpaper with threads of silk or other fine material. As a rule, the canvas is heated at a huge temperature, embossed under high pressure, and only after that it becomes unusually smooth and shiny, eye-catching. Such wallpapers immediately attract the eye, wherever you are - in a wallpaper store between the rows of rolls or prefer an online store.

If you understand the anatomy of these wallpapers, then two layers should be distinguished:

  • The first - paper or non-woven, provides strength and reliability in the gluing process.
  • The second one is directly vinyl interspersed with silk threads, very smooth (or embossed, depending on the design) and extremely beautiful.

Advantages and disadvantages

As with any item, silk-screened wallpaper has its advantages and disadvantages.

Pros:

  • Stunning appearance - these wallpapers stand out favorably against the background of their fellows and, one way or another, attract the eye.
  • They are very durable, because they are based on vinyl - and last about 10-15 years. Suitable for redecorating the premises.
  • Despite such a chic appearance, I do not require any special treatment or care - they are washed with both a dry and a damp cloth. Oil stains are easily removed from them, which is especially important for kitchens.
  • These wallpapers do not emit toxic substances and are therefore safe for adults and small children, as well as pets.
  • They are not afraid of the sun's rays, they do not fade.

Of the minuses, the following can be distinguished:

  • These wallpapers ask for careful preparation of the base before gluing - after all, their canvas is very thin, and otherwise it can either tear or expose all the imperfections and irregularities of the walls.
  • Also, they cannot be called breathable, and, despite their general non-toxicity, they emit harmful substances when burned.

There should not be any special difficulties in gluing, which are not mentioned above - the wallpaper is sold in large meter rolls, so it will be difficult to make a mistake with the size.

Colors

Silk-screen wallpapers are primarily distinguished by their design. It can be both glossy and matte surfaces, as well as voluminous and completely smooth canvases. Of course, they also differ in color, and very much.

The palette is truly huge - due to the large number of design variations, you can find strikingly different rolls from each other. For example, solid pink matte will look very different than glossy ones with a sakura pattern in the same tone. It is in the case of this type of wallpaper that you can find such exotic colors as aquamarine, purple, pure gold and many others.

A huge number of patterns are also used - after all, silk-screening is primarily intended to decorate a room. Among them are both traditional for this type of wallpaper, roses, starry sky and ribbon patterns, as well as modern stripes, cells and even animalistic patterns.

There is one point worth highlighting regarding colors.Light, pastel and glossy colors visually enlarge the space, have the effect of expanding the room, which makes them ideal for small rooms, while dark, matte colors, on the contrary, eat it up.

Can you paint?

This question worries many. In fact, you can. The paint should be acrylic, latex-based, and painted in two coats. This can be done both on the wall and in a roll, by rolling it on the floor, but the first option, of course, is more convenient. Before painting, the canvas should be cleaned - from dust, cobwebs, greasy stains, and sockets, switches and any other problem areas should be degreased and protected from paint.

Initially, you should test the paint on a small, not very visible area of the wallpaper. This can be a wall behind a cabinet, behind a radiator, or under a windowsill. And only after you make sure that the wallpaper is intact and healthy and the paint has not gone to harm them, you can start painting the entire wall.

In order to avoid troubles and embarrassing situations, experts also advise to pick up paint in the same store where you bought the wallpaper, and use the advice of a sales assistant.

Producing countries

The USA is considered to be the pioneer country in this path. It was the Americans who first patented this type of wallpaper and released it into production. Therefore, to this day it is believed that it is this country that takes the leading role in their manufacture. And this is partly true.

But now Germany and Italy are literally stepping on her heels with her Sirpi Italian Chick. The wallpapers of this company are distinguished by elegant patterns, floral and ornamental motives. The quality of German silk-screen printing is recognized by the world, moreover, it is the wallpaper made in this country that is considered environmentally friendly.

When it comes to Chinese silk-screen wallpaper, unfortunately, you can hear a lot of negative reviews. However, one should distinguish between Chinese silk-screen printing, produced in large factories and factories, and clandestine production, not necessarily only Chinese.

It should also not be forgotten that China has long been famous for its fabrics and silks, and in general has always exhibited textiles of unprecedented beauty on the world market, including silk. Therefore, when choosing wallpapers from Chinese manufacturers, you should carefully study where they were produced and whether you can trust the supplier.

We decorate rooms

Silk-screen printing with its golden lines and pleasant to the touch and on the eye texture looks gorgeous. But it will not suit every interior. When decorating a room, it is worth remembering the matching of styles.

So, for example, classic silk-screen printing with ribbon or floral patterns will not fit into a high-tech or minimalist interior at all and will look great in a classic one.

Such wallpapers will be especially charming in the house in the Baroque or Rococo style - after all, these are the styles that praise the luxury and romance of interiors.

Perhaps this is one of the few types of wallpaper that fit perfectly into oriental interiors. They need to be very carefully mixed with colorful carpets and textiles, but if you approach this correctly, an unforgettable combination can come out.

Also, silk-screen wallpaper is often stylized as leather, plaster and much more. Due to the style, they do not shine so much, but they retain their texture and physical qualities, so they can be used in a high-tech, minimalist living room or even in a house without a clearly defined interior.

How to choose?

First of all, when choosing any wallpaper, you should pay attention to their practical characteristics - wear resistance and durability. In the case of silk-screen printing, high marks can be put on both of these points, which greatly facilitates the selection.

Now you can access external data directly. The second thing to say - do not buy wallpapers that are too bright and saturated colors, for example, red or crimson. They, and even brilliant together, will only depress and interfere with concentration, will attract too much attention and distract you from important things or rest.

Also remember to match the color of the wallpaper with the interior palette. It is clear that no, even the most beautiful blue or blue wallpaper will play in a dark green interior, and vice versa.

If you choose wallpaper for the kitchen or bathroom, rooms with high humidity, you should pay attention to some markings on the packaging. For example, wavy stripes indicate the resistance of wallpaper to water. One strip means that the canvas can be cleaned with a barely wet sponge, two with a damp, using chemicals, three with a soft bristle brush.

If you buy silk-screen printing for a bedroom or nursery, remember that you will have to ventilate the room a little more often, since this wallpaper does not allow air to pass through as well as you would like.

Of course, before the purchase, you will need to measure the perimeter of the room without taking into account the recess for the door and windows. Also remember that it is very difficult to dock silk-screened wallpaper with other wallpapers, only a very experienced builder can handle this, so the combined design can be a problem. Pay attention to this when choosing. However, silk-screen printing of different shades and patterns can be mixed with each other.

Care

A very big plus in the care of silk-screen printing is that it allows wet cleaning. There are special tools for this. It is also not forbidden to use dishwashing gels - they do an excellent job with oil and greasy prints, which is especially important for kitchens or apartments with children.

In any case, at the end of cleaning, you should run a dry cloth over the surface. The use of abrasive substances (products with coarse or large particles) is out of the question - this will only damage the coating. With regard to dry cleaning and dust, we can say that it is possible to use a vacuum cleaner here - but only at low power.

Beautiful interiors

Silkscreen wallpaper like this will look very good in the kitchen. If you look closely, it is easy to see that the textiles of the chairs match the colors of the wallpaper - more precisely, with their floral patterns. All this is competently complemented with fresh flowers. Perhaps this is a very good example of how such wallpapers can blend into a Provence style interior. Moreover, the light shade of such wallpaper, combined with golden tints, visually enlarges the room.

This example is notable for the fact that silk-screening is combined here - with a floral pattern on the front wall and more inconspicuous at the back. This is a great example of how you can competently combine two self-sufficient canvases without burdening the interior. All you need is for one of them to be without a pronounced pattern, but to match the color.

This technique is especially relevant in the case of silk-screen printing, because it cannot be mixed with other types of wallpaper, and almost all representatives of this type are distinguished by their brightness and gloss.

But a more classic and inconspicuous option - this silk-screen printing can be used both in the kitchen and in the living room or in the hallway or corridor. Golden reflections on a beige background add coziness to the room and enliven the interior, made in a strict classic style. Also, light is of great importance for this wallpaper - it is warm, and therefore only enhances the gloss.

Silkscreen printing can be placed in a similarly beautiful way in the bedroom. The pattern of leaves not only attracts attention, becomes a real accent of the interior, but also shimmers gorgeous under the light of several lamps and natural, from the window. You can also notice that even bed linen has a glossy surface, it reflects light and multiplies it - just like silk screen printing. Such combinations are very popular and fashionable lately.
