Plastic windows are very popular - they are comfortable and practical. In addition to the frame and glass unit, there are also accessories that are included in the kit. Cover strips, otherwise known as repeated strips, are also part of the set. Self-adhesive models are the simplest and most convenient to use.

Description and purpose

Self-adhesive plastic window strips simplify finishing the space between the window sill, walls and the frame itself. They allow you not to spend money on putty. A false strip closes the junction of the elements and protects the window frame from damage. So the material is not affected by external factors and weather conditions.

Cover strips not only improve thermal insulation, but also make the window opening more aesthetically pleasing.

Planks are used both from the outside and from the inside. Cover strips can have a different appearance, come in any color and texture - so that you can choose the right option for any window frame.

Self-adhesive strips are made of PVC. It is quite simple to use them, regardless of the type.

Products protect window frames not only from moisture and sun, but also from the formation of fungus and mold.

Pros of planks:

  • installation is simple and takes only a couple of minutes; it is easy to dismantle and replace the strips if necessary;

  • long service life.

PVC door strips have practically no drawbacks. It is important to choose the right product and install it.

At first, it is impossible to wet the strip so that moisture does not break the adhesive layer. It is best to wipe these areas with a damp or dry cloth.

Overview of varieties

There are a large number of PVC models with an adhesive layer on the market. Plastic slats can be of various widths and rigidity. This option is best suited for modern plastic windows. It is in harmony in style and design.

Self-adhesive strips have a special coating and protective tape. Many experts claim that this option is the most convenient for masking seams.

Usually, models are used with a width of 50 or 80 mm, depending on the size of the window. And also slats are hard and soft. The latter are easier to use, they are sold in a roll, you just need to cut off the required amount.

Nuances of choice

Cover strips must match the windows. This will make the appearance more neat and protect the seams from external influences.

It should be noted that self-adhesive models are quite easy to install.

There are several nuances that you should pay attention to when choosing.

  1. The plank should be the same color as the window frame. So the image will be harmonious and attractive. Cover strips should not stand out, striking.

  2. The texture must match as well. It is not necessary to glue a strip with wood imitation on an ordinary white plastic window. It will look ridiculous and too noticeable even if the colors are the same. It is worth noting that PVC panels are rarely used with wood frames, but this is acceptable. But they will not fit metal windows at all.

  3. Before going to the store, you need to measure the width of the seams between windows and walls, a window sill. The plank should completely cover the joint and slightly go into the facade.

  4. You should use products from well-known manufacturers who have proven themselves. The cost may be slightly higher, however, the service life is much longer. If you save on the strip, then there is a great risk that it will not protect the frame well. As a result, the window will gradually deteriorate.

Installation

PVC strips can be glued to plastic, wood or metal windows.

The installation process itself is as simple as possible due to the presence of an adhesive layer on the back of the rail.

It is worth noting that the fastening of flexible and rigid models is slightly different. When installing, it is worth considering some features and expert advice.

  1. You should first measure the required length of the segment. The ends of the plank are cut at a 45 ° angle using a miter box.

  2. In the case of a flexible strip, remove the protective layer from the adhesive backing gradually. First, the tip is removed, the strip is applied to the window frame. Then you should simultaneously glue the strip and remove the film.

  3. You will have to work more clearly with a hard cover strip. All protective film is removed immediately. The strip must be glued to the right place at one time. If necessary, you can pre-mark points on the frame that will allow you to position the product evenly.

When using flexible products, there is a high risk that they will peel off and fold back to their original position. Therefore, it is very important to properly press them down during installation.

In this case, the use of rigid models simplifies the installation. Once the model has been removed, it cannot be reused. The adhesive layer deteriorates and will no longer adhere.
