Shantane royal carrot

In Russia, Shantane royal carrots are included in the list of the most popular crops when used in garden plots. It is easy to grow, beautiful and delicious. In addition, it gives bountiful harvests.

The Chantenay variety originated 70 years ago in France as a result of the crossing of several carrot varieties. During all this time, the root crops of the variety have absolutely not lost their original excellent properties. On the contrary, thanks to the work of breeders in different countries, many varieties have appeared, as well as hybrids that have significantly improved these properties. The numerous Chantenay family includes the following popular varieties:

• Royal;
• Royal;
• Cardinal;
• Charlotte;
• Kuroda.

But these are far from all varieties, there are much more of them, up to several dozen. The year 2006 was marked by the entry into the State Register of one of these varieties - Shantane Royal. The originator and author of the culture was the domestic agrofirm "Poisk".

As already noted, the Chantanay royal variety represents the popular Chantenay cultivar. The main feature of the culture is a bright orange color scheme. The values ​​of the variety also became the resistance of root crops to blooming, cracking, and high keeping quality.

The shape of the carrot variety in question is a cone with a rounded tip. The vegetable is also distinguished by tops of considerable density and brightness, colored in rich green tones. The rosette is semi-spreading, the leaves are long.

The weight of each orange root vegetable varies from 75 to 250 grams. The length reaches 15-16 centimeters, the diameter is 5-6 centimeters.

A special characteristic feature of the carrot of the described variety is that its core practically does not stand out in the fruit, it is the same color. Vegetables are distinguished by dense pulp, the taste of varietal carrots is very sweet and pleasant. Carrots of this variety are considered very useful, since they are high in both trace elements and vitamins. So, 100 grams of the product contains:

• beta-carotene in the amount of 9 mg;
• fructose - 0.5 g.

The Shantane royal carrot is a mid-season crop. From germination of seeds to harvesting a rich harvest, as a rule, it takes 100-106 days.

The described culture is high-yielding. On average, per sq. meter of area in the garden, you can get from 3.5 to 8.1 kg of vitamin carrots.

Due to the fact that varietal carrots are distinguished by their unpretentiousness, as well as impressive frost resistance, they can be cultivated in almost all regions of the Russian Federation. And on the territory of the European part, some even get 2 crops each. The described culture is grown in Siberia, in the Urals, however, in this case, it is necessary to plant seed material a little later.

Carrots of this variety are planted in the garden in late April - early May. The distance that must be observed between the rows is 18-20 cm. When planting in a belt way, the crop is laid out in moist soil to a depth of 1.5-2 cm. It is desirable that it be placed “on the edge”.

All plantings are regularly watered until germination, after which care will consist in weeding and irrigation.It is not customary to thin out the shoots of Shantane royal.

A characteristic feature of the variety in question is its high resistance to various diseases and pests. The culture is especially good at resisting attacks by the carrot fly, which distinguishes it from other varieties.
