Breeders from Germany were engaged in breeding the variety, who managed to cross two types of carrots and get a unique hybrid that managed to absorb extremely positive properties. Today the variety is included in the state register of the country and is actively cultivated in many regions.

Description of the variety

The Rote Riesen variety is suitable for outdoor cultivation and belongs to the group of late ripening plants. You do not need to germinate the seeds first, you can immediately plant them in the prepared soil.

Among the main characteristics, there are high yields and strong green tops, with the help of which it is possible to facilitate and accelerate the collection of root crops.

Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and root crops

The rosette of the carrot is erect, the leaves are ordinary, green, medium in size.

Rote Riesen carrots are not prone to cracking, so the fruits of the plant have an ideal appearance. Among the main characteristics:

  • shape - an elongated cone with a rounded tip;
  • weight - up to 133 g;
  • root vegetable diameter - from 4 to 6 cm;
  • length - 22-24 cm.

The carrot core is small, but it can be easily detected. The skin is quite dense and has a rich orange color.

Purpose and taste of tubers

The peculiarity of Rote Risen lies in its juicy and crunchy pulp, which is so popular with many. The tasters appreciated the taste properties of the culture, the roots of which are suitable both for fresh consumption and for various preparations or freezing.

Maturation

On average, root crops ripen in 140-145 days from the moment of sowing seeds in the ground. After this time, you can start harvesting.

Yield

The indicator reaches 2.2-3.7 kg per square meter. If desired, the yield can be increased by following agrotechnical recommendations. They get 212-373 centners per hectare.

Growing and care

It is important to pay special attention to the choice of the site where the culture will grow. Among the main recommendations:

  • the place should be well lit;
  • the groundwater level should be located low so that the plant does not rot;
  • the best predecessors of the crop are tomatoes, beans, onions and cucumbers.

When the place is chosen, it remains to prepare the seeds, which will additionally need to be selected and treated with a solution of potassium permanganate. The latter is necessary to strengthen the immunity of future shoots.

Seed planting is carried out when the soil warms up to 6 degrees Celsius.It is important that the air temperature is slightly more than 15 degrees. Disembarkation scheme:

  • planting depth should be 2.5 cm;
  • 4-5 cm should recede between the seeds;
  • it is necessary to maintain a distance of 20 cm between the rows.

When the seeds are in the soil, it will be necessary to water it abundantly and mulch the mini-bed with peat or sawdust. At the end of planting work, you can proceed to the next stage - leaving.

  • Watering. Carrots should be watered at least once every 3 days so that the soil does not dry out and the plant feels as comfortable as possible. As the carrots grow, watering can be reduced to once a week, and this will be enough.
  • Top dressing. Nitrogen compounds are mainly used as fertilizers, since organic matter can destroy the variety. Before using processing drugs, dilute the solution with water.
  • Weeding and loosening. Mandatory procedures to be followed immediately after watering.

Additionally, gardeners are advised to do thinning after the appearance of the first shoots and the formation of leaves. This approach will provide a comfortable growing environment for the plant and reduce the risk of disease.
