Carrots Alpine gourmet - a relatively old culture. During its existence, she managed to gain fame among gardeners. The name of the variety speaks for itself - carrots are compared to delicacies because of their rich sweet taste.

Breeding history

The species in question appeared in our country thanks to the agronomic firm "Siberian Garden". Such breeders as Ugarova S.V., Dederko V.N. worked on its creation. In 2009, this species was added to the list of the State Register of Breeding Achievements.

Description of the variety

Alpine gourmet is not included in the category of hybrids, it is an independent variety included in the Chantenay variety.

Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and root crops

In this variety, you can observe a semi-spreading rosette of leaves. Green oblong leaves have a large or medium dissection. In length, the carrot stretches by about 20 centimeters, its shape repeats a cone with a rounded end. Each copy weighs an average of 90-189 grams. The peel, like the core, has an orange color.

Purpose and taste of tubers

The described variety is universal. It can not only be eaten directly from the garden as a salad, turned into puree, juices, filling for pies and other dishes, but also frozen, canned, along with other vegetables. The taste qualities of carrots are praised for the pleasant sweetness that a large percentage of carotene and sugar in the composition gives it.

Maturation

According to its characteristics, the variety belongs to the mid-season group. A summer resident can prepare for harvesting after about 95-110 days after planting a vegetable.

Yield

Alpine gourmet shows good productivity. On average, a farmer can expect 299-564 quintals of root crops per hectare. Ripe vegetables can be stored throughout the winter and have good marketability.

Growing regions

Initially, when creating a culture, experts assumed that it would be cultivated where there is a harsh climate and a short summer. These regions include the Urals and Siberia. However, over time, the geography of distribution of the Alpine gourmet has expanded, now it can be found in almost any region of our country.

Growing and care

It is customary to start sowing seeds of Alpine gourmet in the May period. On the eve of the procedure, the planting material is immersed in a special composition that stimulates growth for a couple of hours.

Carrots are planted in grooves about 3-4 centimeters deep. The distance between the rows should be approximately 25 centimeters. Provided that the air warms up to 17-18 degrees, the first shoots will form in a week. At a temperature of +12 degrees, you will have to wait two weeks.

When caring for a root crop, you must follow simple rules:

  • systematically loosen the garden;

  • get rid of weeds;

  • mulch (using sawdust, hay);

  • thin out seedlings;

  • watering (as needed, most often once a week);

  • saturate the soil with fertilizers (potash, nitrogenous, phosphorus compounds);

  • spray for prophylaxis with biological pesticides.

Moisturizing the soil should be stopped a couple of weeks before harvesting. Mature vegetables are harvested when there is no rain, using a shovel and a knife to trim the tops.

Carrots are one of the most unpretentious crops in terms of growing conditions; they can endure a short drought and a short cold snap. However, to get tasty and large root crops, you should adhere to the basic rules for planting carrots.

Despite the fact that carrots are a rather unpretentious crop and, in principle, even copes with drought, it is possible to get sweet and strong vegetables only by regularly providing them with the necessary amount of moisture.
If carrot seeds were planted too often and as a result they sprouted in a dense row, then in order to get a rich harvest of large and even root crops, you will definitely have to thin out, and this must be done on time and correctly.

Soil requirements

The vegetable feels good in a well-cultivated, slightly acidic soil with a powerful layer of fertility - 25-30 centimeters. The best option would be loamy or sandy loam soil. It is forbidden to cultivate a root crop in swampy or stony soil. It is good if earlier potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, garlic, legumes, cucumbers, onions, cabbage were cultivated on the site chosen for carrots.

Required climatic conditions

When deciding on a place for a garden, you should take a closer look at the area completely open to sunlight, since the shade negatively affects the growth of carrots.

Disease and pest resistance

In general, the Alpine gourmet shows decent resistance to pests and viruses, however, if simple rules for caring for a vegetable are violated, it can be attacked by a carrot fly. To protect the root crop from this pest, it is advised to spray it with a Bordeaux mixture.

Carrots grow in almost any garden. There is an opinion that this culture is very resistant to all kinds of diseases and pests, but this is not the case. Without proper care, carrots become susceptible to all kinds of infections and are affected by harmful insects.

Review overview

Along with experienced farmers, novice summer residents also give a positive assessment to the above-described variety. They note the balanced taste of carrots, the absence of difficulties in cultivation, and excellent yield indicators.

In order for the carrots to be stored for a long time and remain fresh all winter, they must be removed from the garden for storage in time. You can determine the time of digging, relying on: the external signs of the plant, the time indicated on the seed packaging, the climatic features of the region, the data of the lunar calendar.
Before sending carrots for storage, they must be carefully sorted out and properly prepared. It is necessary to discard spoiled specimens, dry root crops and clear of the earth. To keep the carrots well, it is important to provide the correct temperature and humidity in the storage area.
